I forgot about this one. Of all the great Live Rhiannon's performed, this one sucks compared to what they could have given us.

Peestie 01-16-2010 05:21 AM

I don't tend to skip any. I throw on an album, sit/lie down and just listen to it. It doesn't mean there aren't songs that are less good but I like to experience albums as full works. Plus it means I don't have to get up to press the 'skip' button and I can be just plain lazy at times. :D

I'm the same, I prefer to listen to the thing as a whole. I think the sequencing and flow of all the songs together is part of the art. Plus, often songs that I didn't like to begin with grow on me and some even become favourites, so in the end I'm glad I stuck with them.

Sleepless-Child 01-16-2010 09:04 AM

Fleetwood Mac : Warm Ways
Rumours : Well...Songbird ?
Tusk : That's Enough for me, Never make me cry, Sisters of the moon (sometimes). Don't know why people skip What makes you think you're the one ? !
Fleetwood Mac live : Don't have it.
Mirage :Don't have it.
Tango : Big Love (like this song, though), You and I (Part 2).
Behind the Mask : Don't have it.
The Dance : Temporary One.
Say you Will : Destiny Rules.

skuncles 01-16-2010 09:56 AM

I'm too old school, back in the day when you played the actual LP it was a huge pain the ass to get up and lift the needle off the record to skip a song, so over time you learn to like or at least toterlate, even the worst song. So for me any album that was originally released on LP I will listen to the whole thing. For the albums of the CD era (which for Fleetwood Mac is only "The Dance" and "Say You Will") the only songs I might skip would be "Destiny Rules" from SYW, I can't stand the sound of snot in Stevie's throat on the first line of that!!

So you'd basically remove most of Stevie's songs from their back catalogue?

You might be the only one. I haven't found another fan annoyed by this track. I always thought this would have been a great hit single.

michelej1 01-16-2010 12:56 PM

I try not to skip songs. Skipping not only prevents me from appreciatiing a song I'd previously overlooked (which was the case with most of TISL), but it also tends to make me burn out on the songs I initially liked, if I spend too much time listening to them to the exclusion of others. So, I avoid doing it.

But once or twice, I have skipped Silver Girl and Running Through the Garden, against my better judgment.

Michele

I agree! It is such a great collaboration with Stevie and Lindsey.

I agree with those Rumours and Tusk skip overs. I love My Little Demon though! ;) To me that song's more funny than anything. Shortly after the Dance came out we held a bonfire and they played that song while everyone danced around the fire in a circle like little Indians. I laugh to this day.

I just can't believe that no one heard this in the playback and felt the need to either re-record it or sweeten it in some way. You can totally hear some kind of a gloppy noise coming out of her nasal passages. I guess it's the hole she burnt into her septum.

I concluded years ago that the decision to keep it was deliberate. The production decision to retain it is making some sort of artistic statement -- I know not what.

There are other instances on that album where the Nicks vocal is unpleasantly nasal & EQ'd toward the treble & mid ranges with virtually no bass. Keeping these grotesque vocals was surely intentional.

It's as if our faces were being rubbed in the gritty realism of a deteriorating voice box.

Stevie has the worst case of vocal fold nodules. That is the main reason she sounds the way she does. I guess she is too scared to have them removed. The hole in her nose doesn't help either. Many singers suffer from nodules, but some are effected more than others. Look at Marianne Faithfull for example.

ragrsrocalot 01-16-2010 04:44 PM

I prefer to just let the album play straight through. Granted, some songs are not favorites, but when I listen to the album I like to experience the songs as a whole group, rather then to skip one. I get a better feel for the concept of the record that way.

Fleetwood Mac - I don't skip any

Rumours - I don't skip any

Tusk - I like every song but rarely listen to the entire thing through.

Fleetwood Mac Live - One More Night, Landslide, Never Going Back Again

Mirage- Oh Diane, Empire State, Straight Back

Tango In The Night - Welcome To The Room Sara, When I See You Again, Tango in the Night

Behind The Mask - I skip all of them except Love is Dangerous, Affairs of the Heart, Save Me and the title song

Time - All the Dave Mason songs, All Over Again

The Dance - I don't skip any

Say You Will - Silver Girl, Goodbye Baby, Come

nailatixela 01-16-2010 08:17 PM

I'm surprised people skip so many songs. The only songs I "skip" (they are not even on my playlist) are all of Bekka and Billy's time songs (I only like Christine's songs and Daves) and I only listen to a select few songs from the Live album, mostly the one of a kind ones (like Fireflies) because I just listen to a Tusk tour boot in place of that album.

So besides Live and Time, I listen to all the other mac albums all the way through.

When I See You Again is exactly the song where I reach over and crank up the volume. I want people to ask me when Elmer Fudd joined Fleetwood Mac.

Fleetwood Mac: I'm So Afraid
Rumours: um, all of it? Except for The Chain, I Don't Want To Know, Silver Springs and Gold Dust Woman.
Tusk: Over and Over, Never Forget
Live: Rhiannon, One More Night, blah blah. I don't even remember
Mirage: everything except for Gypsy, That's Alright Love In Store, and Book of Love
Tango: Caroline
Mask: Everything but Christine's songs
The Dance: quoth Patti Smith: I don't need that ****in' ****
Say You Will: RUNNING THROUGH THE GARDEN OH MY GOD. And I make sure to turn off SYW before the kids. Smile At You, Silver Girl.

What I meant to say: I skip the Overture when I listen to Fidelio.

Gypsycat999 01-17-2010 02:29 PM

I don't skip either. Mostly because I'm too lazy but I also really like to listen to the whole album like some others said. Just sometimes I wish to skip these:

Fleetwood Mac: Crystal (but I would listen to the end if possible)
Rumours: none
Tusk: Think about me, Never make me cry
Live: have never heard it
Mirage: none
Tango: Family Man
Behind the Mask: Have never heard it
Time: neither
The Dance: none
Say you will: Come, Smile at you, Everybody finds out, Destiny rules, Goodbye Baby (in fact I never listen to the whole album)

TrueFaith77 01-17-2010 03:01 PM

i never skip ALL the time.

white album: none, i think, though I wonder if sometimes i've skipped world turning...
rumours: none (unless you count the crime of including silver springs on the cd between songbird and the chain)
tusk: none ... ever
mirage: none
titn: none
mask: that one about the rock
time: hmmm... depends on my mood but been known to skip... blow by blow, winds of change, i wonder why to get to the good stuff
say you will: lately i HAVE been skipping come, and I used to ALWAYS skip smile at you and silver girl, but now i NEVER do.

Regina 01-17-2010 04:27 PM

Some things I can stand live but the recorded originals are not my cup of tea. Having issued that disclaimer....

Fleetwood Mac/Fleetwood Mac-Sugar Daddy/So Afraid

Rumours- Oh Daddy (and probably all of it. Sick of Rumours)

Tusk-Not That Funny/ Honey Hi

Fleetwood Mac/Live-Don't Stop & Not That Funny

Mirage- Empire State, Only Over You & Wish You Were Here

Tango In The Night Mystified (it's depressing to me. Have no idea why)

Fleetwood Mac's Greatest Hits-I think I dislike all of them right this second.

Behind The Mask-I don't actually remember some of them so I'm going to skip it rather than listen. I will say, I actually did like some of Billy's stuff on here.

Say You Will-Running Through the Garden (blech) and Come

PutTheBlameOnMe 01-17-2010 06:00 PM

I don't tend to skip songs, I usually put a CD on in the background and just let it play.
Although (as they aren't in my playlist) I don't listen to Rick or Billy's songs from BTM. And I also favour Christine's songs on Time.

I used to skip quite alot on Tusk and Say You Will, but I've made myself listen to them and grew to like the songs that I used to skip.

Lets see...songs I'd skip if I were listening to the album. Since it's different if I count itunes and shuffle.

Fleetwood Mac - Warm Ways, Over My Head, Sugar Daddy, I'm So Afraid.

Rumours - Don't Stop. Blech. Awful song.

Tusk - All apart from the Stevie songs, Think About Me, Tusk and Not That Funny.

Live - All. Apart from Fireflies, Rhiannon, Say You Love Me, Don't Let Me Down Again, Sara and The Farmers Daughter.

Mirage - Only Over You, Oh Diane, Wish You Were Here.

Tango - Caroline, Tango In The Night, Mystified, Welcome To The Room...Sara, When I See You Again.

Behind The Mask - All apart from. Save Me, Skies the Limit, When The Sun Goes Down, Affairs of the Heart, Love is Dangerous and Stand On The Rock.

Time - All. I don't like it at all. I've got Itunes programmed to skip those songs in shuffle.

The Dance - I'm So Afraid, Big Love, Sweet Girl, Don't Stop.

Say You Will - Murrow, Come, Smile At You (Can't compare to the demos, at all, in my opinion), Silver Girl (Worst. Song. Ever) Say Goodbye, Goodbye Baby.

I didn't realise how much I would skip before I listed them all  Although, I do like most of the songs I'd skip, I'm just not the one to listen to an album in its entirety unless I'm in a certain mood. I like to skip ahead to the good stuff.

Almost Simon 01-18-2010 06:01 AM
