Stevie Nicks on Joan Rivers show 1986

Hi again, one more question...

Right after Joan Rivers started her first talk show (maybe even the first episode) she had snippets of celebrities giving comical excuses why they wouldnt do her show. They showed Stevie in her bedroom and she said she had to give her dog a bath and couldnt do the show.

Have I lost my mind or does anyone else remember this? Any video of this exist??

Pleae help! :)

Thanks....

I remember Joan Rivers' talk show in the mid to late 80's. I believe it was her show my sister was telling me about where Joan had on a couple female guests and they were discussing how Stevie had liposuction on her thighs or "Had the fat sucked out of her thighs" and the other girl was like "She needs to have the snot sucked out of her nose" and they all were laughing.

I kid you not but I saw this too. It was not Joan Rivers but it was the Tonight Show. Carole Bayer Sager, the lovely songwriter who was married to Burt Bacharach at the time, was the guest host. At the start of the show she was standing at the piano with Burt and she was telling him about all her friends she had asked to come on the show. That's when they showed the clip of her friends talking to her on the phone and making excuses why they could not make it. Stevie was shown holding one of her dogs and saying she had to give her dog a bath. Stevie started to laugh after she said this. I remember I jumped up and popped a tape in the VCR and started to record the show in hopes that Stevie would, in fact, show up but she didn't and I was bummed out. This was back in the mid 80's when you'd get that new issue of "Dreams" ( anybody remember that fanzine?) and you'd read that Stevie was going to do this show or be on that show and it would never happen. It was during this time that David Letterman was having fun with Stevie because "her people" had told him she would not come on his show.

Oh my god!!!!!!!!!!!! You're so right. Finally i can say I didn't dream this. You are exactly right, I remember now. Funny how I confused the two. Thanks again!!!!!! Now if someone had this on tape!

Thanks again so much!!!!

That makes me think of Joan's E! True Hollywood Story. Joan wrote the whole thing, and it was a total farce. She had every major celeb in the world just totally talking **** about her (Joan told them what to record). The outtakes at the end were the funniest. Hearing people like Julia Roberts say: "I can't say that! That's horrible!"

Enchanted_Stevi 01-13-2010 10:30 AM

OMG seriously Stevie?!?! She couldnt have thought up a better excuse?

"Oh sorry Joan I cant be on your show Thursday...I have to give my dog a bath that night"

I think it was meant as a gag.

joe68 01-13-2010 12:18 PM

Actually one more tidbit...and not to beat a dead horse...but...

Now that I'm remembering more...Iactually think it was the Joan Rivers Show. After Joan was fired from her own show, FOX had all these "guest hosts" fill in for her and I believe thats when Carole Bayer Seger did the Stevie skit. I remembering jumping out of my seat when I saw Stevie do this because I dont think they even mentioned her name. They just showed her on her bed and went from there.

Again, just grateful I didnt dream it...

Both of those quips can be attributed to Joy Behar, who is not exactly a demure, willowy waif herself. Pot meet kettle, anyone?

My favorite is the Joan and Melissa Story TV movie in which they play themselves. I would love to have a copy of that!

You're right about Joy Behar. She did the same joke on VH1 in the early 90's when they had some stand up show on that I think was hosted by Rosie O'donell. But of course my memory being what it is...I could be wrong.

I was racking my brain last night wondering just who it was back then joking about Stevie like that and for some reason Joy did come to mind and I was thinking it was her. It had just been so long I couldn't place who it was right off.

Well, that's like Madge's famous: "I'd love to kiss you, but I just washed my hair."

Madge's famous line? Uh, Mae West used that line in the 1930's.

You may be right on that. I hate...hate....hate Joan Rivers with a passion so I never watched her show but I do remember when Fox dumped her they did use several guest hosts to fill out the shows. Which brings up this question.....isn't that how Arsenio Hall end up getting his show? I believe he ended up guest hosting that show so many times and was so good at it, that Paramount signed him to his own show after Fox took the ex Joan Rivers show off the air.

Uh, Bette Davis used that line when she played Madge Norwood in Cabin in the Cotton.

You are 100% correct. A very famous Bette Davis line but for some reason Mae West jumped out at me. Well I have to admit, it does sound like something Mae West would have said.

Yes, I know what you mean. Although, opposite Cary Grant, she'd take the kiss!

Stevie did boast about how she trained her dog herself. Wonder if she ever gave baths.

Hey, opposite Gary Grant, I'd take the kiss......and I'm straight.
