Lindsey confirmed a new Mac album?

I was listening to the radio in my car after picking up my daughter, and happened to come in at the very end of GYOW. The DJ mentioned afterwards that Lindsey had confirmed that there would be a new album and "extensive touring" in 2010. Anyone else hear of this?[/COLOR]

Seems he was quoted as having said that in one of his recent European interviews. I just don't see how they can get an album out that fast though.

silvasprings 12-10-2009 06:32 PM

I know this is farfetched but i think maybe they might have begun work on a new album already, they had that three month break between June and October they might have been able to put done some sort of demos etc then.

But then maybe it's just wishful thinking- It's all speculation till we get confirmation from the whole band.

mylittledemon 12-10-2009 06:34 PM

I think this tour was really meant, in part, to prepare them for the studio. Getting their chops up, they'll be fresh to go into the studio in the New Year ready to rock. I'm sure they've got heaps of material/songs

StreetAngel86 12-10-2009 06:36 PM

lindsey's been saying they dont have a new album to promote...YET
i think it's looking fairly promising
dont think a tour would happen next year
unless they work super hard and fast in the new year

i'll just be happy with a new record

chiliD 12-10-2009 06:56 PM

If they DID have new material, I think it would've behooved them to introduce a new song or two while they were on tour (as they did with both Rumours & Tusk material....and basically likewise with The Dance.)

Nothing better than going into the studio with new material that has been "road tested".

Didn't stevie sing part of a song about hurricane katrina at new orleans on the american leg?

Maybe it will be on the new album???

Good point. I think during the break, they might have gone their separate ways to work on writing or doing demos so that they will have stuff to present next year to get ahead of the game a little bit. I think if they were dedicated and focused, they could could record an album in 3 months. Isn't that the time it took for the white album? If they do get it done in 3-4 months, say done by May, a couple of months for mixing... it could be released by late fall or early winter, but in reality, they could start the actual tour for it in the Fall before the actual release date.

For SYW, Stevie cranked out 4 new songs in a month right? (writing them, doing a demo), so in theory, it could be done. Especially if they have an outside producer that is good at producing in a specific time line and not being extremely perfectionistic.

No. No. No. It was the GREATEST HITS TOUR, remember? They didn't want to mess with any new songs, and possibly have someone get up and leave to go to the pot while they played any new stuff.

Stevie's~Prince 12-10-2009 08:24 PM

I reckon a new album is innement.. I think maybe there was a little trouble getting Stevie on board perhaps and Lindsay said at the Melb concert they didn't have a new album to promote yet! And then signed off with "See you next time Melbourne"

You very well could be on to something. They could have been tinkering some last year too for that matter, before hitting the road. Maybe they shared some of the demos they had, and felt it would make sense to get warmed up to each other for a year on the road and sharpen their game before going into the studio. After all, they were miserable going into the studio cold for SYW, and everyone in the band seems to really enjoy touring. I have high hopes for how the next album will sound... because it seems they're all determined to best SYW. I just have my doubts that it'll be released anytime within the next 2 years.

michelej1 12-10-2009 08:54 PM

I'm all for a new album and excited about the prospects. As for another tour, unless they played smaller, more intimate venues, I don't think touring again would be a good thing and they should know this too, after the way they saturated the market in 2004, following the success of 2003.

Oh I agree, the market won't be ready next summer to absorb more Mac concerts. They've already hit Madison Square Garden alone 3 times this year, right? They had to cancel at least Greensboro for lack of sales. Unless the economy goes through the roof in the next 6 months, they should put off touring for a little while.

but isn't that EXACTLY what the Dance was essentially?
a greatest hits quasi reunion tour?
Christine and Stevie threw new songs in to the mix...oh o did Lindsey
i think it would be okay to maybe introduce ONE or TWO songs towards the end of the tour...at the end of the concert
just to see what kinda of reaction they get

wheart 12-10-2009 10:09 PM

not that Stevie's word means anything but according to her, the were supposed to have a January meeting to discuss the future plans of The Mac. Perhaps they already had the meeting during their break...

mylittledemon 12-10-2009 10:13 PM

Or on the 80 hour flight from LA to Auckland

I agree... Take some time off - get back to recording something, then come out again... I honestly don't get the impression they will tour again come spring. Last year tickets for the March shows started going onsale in Dec 08... Plus haven't they pretty much combed through all the major and secondary markets this past year. Maybe if they go out again in the summer and do those outdoor venues you have in the states that will be decided at this January meeting... Personally, I think they've toured enough this past year and should have a good enough base to go back in to record.

DavidMn 12-10-2009 11:02 PM

My friend Torri who most of you know here went to Mick's meet and greet thing in Manchester NH in June and she asked him point blank are you guys coming back to the states next year and he said yes along with a cryptic statement which went something along the lines of "and we will have something special for you next summer, but thats all im going to say at this point."

Amlyn 12-10-2009 11:06 PM

Well Mick is going out with the MFBB in Feb and March back down in Aus, right? Is he touring anywhere else? So that cuts him out of the picture for a little while.

I do remain optimistic that we will see something new from them, but I just don't see them cranking something quickly. I can see them taking the first half of the year off, going into the studio the second half of 2010 and then backing a new album out on tour in 2011.

Having said that, I do hope that they don't lose all the momentum and synergy they created touring together this year if they wait more than a few months to get back together.

Guess we'll have to wait and see.

You know? That really sets the little hamster on the wheel in my brain into motion . Since they've all talked about using outside producers, I wonder how quickly that could fast track a new album? After all, Lindsey is the consummate studio dawdler... he took 14 years in between Out Of The Cradle and Under The Skin . Maybe the band is going to take a more cerebral approach to recording this time around (just record what they feel without second guessing it)... then let the producers and mixers have a field day with it. We could get an album pretty quickly if that were the case. I can't see it happening, but it's certainly on the outer fringes of the realm of possibility .

I might be in the minority here when I say this, but I really, really hope they don't make another album. Say You Will was far from great and I think it's just a waste of time without Christine.

I would like them to finish up this tour and for Stevie to go into the studio ALONE and make her own album. I want new solo material.

mylittledemon 12-11-2009 12:54 AM

I hear ya equeen. On the other hand, i want them to make a new album (in the least) so they can top Say You Will. That was not a good record to "end" on.

My train of thought is this: Lindsey's Gift Of Screws was fantastic and Stevie's Trouble In Shangri La was really great... why can't they make just as good, if not better of an album together? They just can't leave the Mac legacy ending with Say You Will... they just can't :distress:.

I agree that Christine was one of the essential ingredients that made the Rumours band magical... but that shouldn't mean the Mac is incapable of making good music without her. Buckingham Nicks was a good, solid album... and anything with a John McVie-Mick Fleetwood rhythm section is redeeming in one way or another. All of this logic tells us they must be able to give us one last good album under the Mac moniker.

It seems it's egos and feelings that are ensnaring everyone... maybe they can figure out a way around that with outside producers, and a will to record a final, kick ass record. I've becoming pretty pessimistic the past 5 years or so when it comes to Fleetwood Mac... but I have to believe they can wow us one last time! If they truly want to and go into it with pure motives and open minds, they can accomplish it... no doubt!

I'm more shocked/surprised that Torri paid for a meet & greet! Would be nice to see her again.

But, back to the point- Mick's a charlatan- no sense listening to him.

LukeA 12-11-2009 01:42 AM

There aren't that many secondary markets left for FM to hit next year. Portland's the biggest market they skipped in '09, and take it from me that they'd go over like a lead balloon here right now.

If they have any business sense/Geritol left, they'll realize its best to take '10 off and come back in '11 for whatever it is they have left for us.

I think she only paid like $150 for the whole thing it was one of those Ebay auctions. And Let's not kid ourselves here by that time who the hell was gonna pay $800 or whatever it was that was the original asking price!

When you say "smaller, more intimate venues" it makes me think of places like Antone's in Austin, TX. It would be ****ING AMAZING to see Fleetwood Mac at such a small venue. However, they would have to limit tickets and jack the price up.

To play someplace like Antone's they'd have to ditch the 400 backing musicians, half dozen backing vocalists, guitar techs, and just play MUSIC! That'd be the most kick ass show ever... Austinites wouldn't accept any less! :p

This got me really excited, but then I thought hmm, maybe they recorded a show during unleashed and are going to release a CD/DVD of it in the summer? I mean, it'd be great, and I want a cd/dvd of unleashed, but a new album would be much more preferred.

Agreed. There are so many great theatres they could do and probably sell them out. The vic in chicago...beacon in new york...etc etc

The only way it will ever happen is the suggestion and push coming from lindsey since he has expressed really enjoying the smaller venues. I think it would be waaaaaaaaay to big of a step down for stevies ego and probably not enough cash for mick/stevie.

Although I dare say that the production cost would be significantly reduced for such smaller venues, tickets would sell better....they would probably come out ahead and feel better....as opposed to the pathetic 1/4 full arena that they faced in cleveland earlier this year. LOL but when has common sense ever really flown into their nests.

He could release half a tribute album to the Rolling Stones with some of his leftover covers from the original GOS sessions so I think you're right, he's bound to have a few originals floating around as well.

That made me excited to....like my heart started to beat faster in a strange sorta way....lol...really....:blob2: :blob1:
But I don't want a re-release of Rumours....WE WANT A NEW RECORD!!! And now, the new record thing seems clearer...hope they do it! Because, we all have heard Lindsey say on this tour that they "don't have a new album to promote...yet." And even "Stockholm, see you next time!" :blob2:
I wish for 2 things to happen next year:

1. Fleetwood Mac making a NEW album with NEW songs and everyone are happy with that...

2. Fleetwood Mac touring the world again....comes to Sweden....and I'm so happy!!

That 2ond one, is just a dream..:(..well, they were here this year and hadn't been in 20 years, so I'm NOT expecting this to happen that soon again...:distress:

And all I have to do is to travel over the ocean, to the US, and go to a Mac concert....or a Stevie solo concert (my dream) if she'll tour solo...:]

I don't think they are playing smaller arenas simply because they don't have to. The notion of them playing rinky dinky little theatres in Chicago and New York is just absurd. True, they didn't come close to selling out MSG on their second go-round (only three months after the first round of multiple NYC-area dates). But the first round of shows was almost completely full with over 13K-15K in attendance each night. And I seriously doubt that Lindsey as a solo act would turn down the opportunity to play MSG- it's simply because he can't. I don't think there are many musicians, if any, that intentionally play multiple dates (in the middle of a tour) in small theatres vs. one or two large arena dates. Steely Dan comes to mind, I guess... But their ticket prices were astronomical- made FM tickets look like a sample sale by comparison. I hate huge arenas in general, but I think FM would look pretty odd in a small space. Plus I would rather have them keep the ticket prices lower and play large arenas.

The Beacon is out...Circ Du Soleil has exclusive residency there starting in January, I believe. Heck, Beacon management even 86'd the Allman Bros who've kept the place busy every spring for two or three weeks for the past 25 years or so.
