What does 2010 hold for FM ??
What do we all think there will be out there for the coming year ?
Unleashed extended and more USA concerts ? New Album ? Everyone going their own way & solo concerts ? The whole group taking the year off ? |
I can confidently predict that Christine will remain retired.
Other than that with this band who knows? Gail |

I think they'll cruise into their scheduled January meeting about a new album, tired, bitchy, and strung out from being on the road around the world for most of 2009. They'll decide to postpone doing anything new (be it touring, recording, etc) for at least a year. They are rocks stars after all, and need lotsa time off! :p I think a real catching point next time around is where the album will be recorded. With Lindsey, John, and Mick all having children, they'll all want to remain close to their families. But none of their families live near one another now. Lindsey is the only one left in LA, but even John and Mick live on different islands in Hawaii. So this will be an issue... |
I'm probably wrong but for some reason I could see them deciding to make an easy cash grab this summer with a small run of sheds and secondary markets that have not been oversaturated with the mac love-train already. They'll probably go into it thinking with the better economy they will recoup some of the money lost on the first spring leg of the tour with better ticket sales. Stevie's rebok boots will probably melt to the stage on some idle 86 degree night in mansfield massachusetts and will somehow blame it on lindsey and blame it on lindsey for something that happened 30 friggin years ago, terrible fighting will continue alas the ongoing unhappy, terrible tour that had become of every mac tour since god knows when yet somehow never gets bad enough to finally give their miserable money hungry butts a rest and retire their oldies act.
Just my two cents! |

Ok, are you some sort of "men who stare at goats" person? If I didn't know better, I would've said that was one of MY rants....only more civilly expressed. |
Hahahaha no, can't say i've stared at goats lately these days.
Maybe because its 12+ years into my fandom, i've reached that point where it's like...."really?...it's been 30+ years and you still can't burry the hatchet....really?" you did 135 shows against your will on a miserable tour.....really now? I'm 25 and feel more mature than half of them, stevie especially. More than anything, the exception being lindsey....I always get the drift that none of them realize just how darn lucky they are to be able to go out and still perform and still sell as many tickets as they do. For the most part they have a huge sense of entitlement. If it was really about the music they would do a run of shows at the Fillmore, or one of the big theatres in Chicago...and probably sell out each night. But I guess that couple of extra millions is more important, besides....even stevie said that we the fans are the ones that will steal all the songs on the internet so there is no money to be made there, pff burn. Mike cambell just remarked recently that in the beginning the heartbreakers had to prove why they deserve to be there and now they have to prove why they are still relevant and deserve to be there..and for the most part since 1997 with SYW being the exception, what exactly have they done except justify themselves on the same things they have been for the past 15-20 years?? As artists you can create great art which will prove your relevance, but all great artists must continue to grow. Don't get me wrong, still a huge fan, still love the music. I saw them on this last tour..but cheap seats this time....and I apologize because I know I'm preaching to the choir and this is probably the same b*tch that half the people here, it's nothing anybody hasn't heard before. I guess in what would be a fairly short period of time (12 years) between the SYW fan club fiasco, countless cash grabs, lamenting about miserable tours that gave them big bucks and backhanded comments to the fanbase, the whole enchilada (or fajita round-up) is leaving a bad taste in my mouth. ok end of rant. |
^^^I agree with every word!

can you believe that the top ticket price on my 1997 ticket stub is 60.00?
Hahahaha |

Last time around they rented a masion in Bel Air because of the creature comforts, and because it was reasonably centrally located for everyone, who were all in the LA area at the time. Now that everybody is so spread out (except Lindsey and Stevie), I can't imagine how they would all come to a consensus on where to record. They all clearly demand big scale creature comforts, hence their building their million dollar studio for Tusk (so it would be more homey), renting a French Chateau for Mirage, and their renting a mansion for Say You Will. I think this will be the real obstacle preventing a new album in this day and age. |

I definetly believe another leg next year for summer on the unleashed tour the sheds out door venues i would think they would play like they did with Say You Will Tour but that would be my guess.

I just had to post and say that this:
Quote:
ON-topic, well, I'd like to think that the album will be discussed at least, maybe a venue picked, somewhere the rest of us will never guess, maybe a few demos recorded or worked on. Realistically, I think they all need to come down from their ivory towers and make this album happen, because if they procrastinate and BS and fight again it's truly the end for my favourite band. I will not see another greatest hits tour without a new record. - Spike |
2010 will hold lots of surprises.
|
A couple guesses what they may do in 2010- I'd think they'd try for a Superbowl Half Time spot or something high-profile to cap off all the touring they did in '09. I think they'd entertain offers from casinos to do a handful of dates (Mohegan Sun, Vegas, Atlantic City)- maybe for a total of 6 shows or so, if the price is right. I think they may go ahead with a reissue of old material, and possibly try out 2 new tunes, promoting on Letterman and selling directly from their own website. IF they are pleased with the reception ($$) the 1 or 2 songs get, I think they'd attempt to record a cd throughout the year and possibly get something out by September of 2010. But I don't think so.
I believe at this moment, Stevie is at her typewriter or handwriting a very supportive (and sincere) letter of loyalty to Jimmy Iovine, his divorce became final today. And I believe by the end of 2010, we will see Stevie SOLO on Interscope, with Iovine likely well-aware that his Stevie connection circa 1980 paved the way for him to become the jillion-billionaire that he is today. I think only an Iovine intervention with Interscope can save whats left of Stevie's recording career, and that it would be easier to 'manage' her recording career comeback than it would be to manage Fleetwood Mac's. I think Interscope is what's on the horizon for 2010- I'd be thrilled if it were for both Fleetwood Mac AND for Stevie solo, but I think it will be for her solo. I think we also may see a lot of demos from Stevie released as a boxset through Interscope, before a new solo cd from Stevie or a new Mac cd. I think if there is to be a renaissance of Stevie or Fleetwood Mac as recording artists, it had best be started in 2010 on Interscope. Stevie can still pull it off at 62, but another 2 or 3 years can't go by without new product, it will be too late by then, at 65, for her to 'start' again. So, for 2010--- back to the gypsy that she was- alligning with the right people to revive her recording career. I hope Fleetwood Mac jumps this time, if Interscope dangles. I am almost certain Stevie knows Iovine's label is her best shot. |
Nikolaj, as far as I can tell Interscope is only interested in hip hop musicians right now. I think Jimmy's days of working with Stevie are a thing of the past. Also Jimmy was a huge success LONG before he produced Bella Donna.

I think they'll either just take lots of time off before doing anything or decide to throw a few more US shows in( I hope)!

I know Jimmy began (as an engineer, I think) in late '74 on John Lennon's 'Rock and Roll' album and that was his real entry to his own distinguished music career, long before 'Bella Donna', and that it was also JI who had a lot to do with the success of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, also years before 'Bella Donna'...but, it was not only that he produced BD, but that he was largely responsible for the huge success of it, which launched the new label, Modern, through Atlantic, that did wonders for JI's status in the industry. Though he'd produced for TP, I don't know that he was 'hugely successful' along the lines of a Paul Rothchild or Peter Asher or Richard Perry prior to Bella Donna, but after BD, I think he surpassed their reputations as a 'go to' power-producer who knew a lot about music and money-making. You may recall there were plenty of nay-sayers who thought it was nuts that a subsidiary new label (Modern) be formed for SN's solo prospects, which were considered shaky, despite her enormous popularity with the public. Though it was Fishkin and Morris who ran Modern (co-owned by Nicks, almost unheard of at the time, for a woman to own part of her record company) I think it was Jimmy Iovine who really came through as a guiding force that earned many millions in the 1980s for Atlantic Records, through this new label they agreed to launch to launch SN. Also, after he stopped working with her, Stevie's sales steadily declined, which may also add to his reputation as the man perhaps most responsible for her biggest solo successes. So, I do think his Nicks association did more for Iovine's professional reputation than his work with Tom Petty, Patti Smith, or his very early John Lennon work. Based on that, I'd say that it's possible that to this day, JI knows the importance of what his association with Nicks helped him to later achieve. Plus, he may just like her, or like her music. It's very likely he knows better than anyone else what would work for her. Interscope had heard 'SYW' and made an offer, I think it could happen again. Reconsider her, Jimmy!~ |
Nikolaj, Jimmy I. also produced Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band's BORN TO RUN album and I think he might have produced Carole Kings TAPESTRY album. Bella Donna was a success but even without it he was already a sought after producer. I'm sure Stevie knew that by hiring him to produce BD, HER career would be more successful.

And we already know Interscope was in the running for SYW. I really think Stevie will want to do something solo. Maybe a short summer tour and then she might look at recording something solo? |

It seems Lindsey has finally figured out how to release solo albums in a fairly quick fashion, I wonder if he can use that to convince Stevie into recording another Mac album? I'm sure the less time she has to spend in a room with Lindsey, the more motivated she'll be. Plus it looks like an outside producer might be brought in, so that would level the playing field for her and Lindsey, and the producer could likely keep them reigned in and focused. It sounds like Stevie is grossly unhappy with the end result of Say You Will... I'm just hoping she's itching to remedy that with a new Mac album. I doubt she'd want Say You Will to be the Mac's final legacy. I also get the strong impression after Trouble In Shangri La that she is done recording solo. She said time and time again that it was her little masterpiece, and that she doesn't want to record again because it won't sell. So maybe all of this does point towards one last Mac album. I guess we'll see! |
