2005 - 2006 Tour Stories
Here is the tour stories thread to share your tour stories during any tours from 05 to 06! I don't know too much about this time...so I am thinking of those Vegas shows, the shows down under, the Tom Petty Highway Companion tour, and Two Voices. Am I forgeting any other tours that happened during this era?
So if you got to see Stevie during this time, please let us know how it was, and tell us all your special memories! :D |
I sure don´t know any story, but i think that concert with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra must be mentioned!!!!! I think that´s the best what happenned for Stevie and her fans these years. And also, the tour with Tom Petty was good. I think that Stevie sang I Need to Know and Stop Draggin´my Heart Around best with Tom Petty on this tour.

2006...was a fabulous year
i saw the Melbourne show and wow...it was my first time seeing a Stevie solo show. I had crappy seats, like 20 rows in and couldnt see much of the stage. My favorite part ever was after she finished B&TB and she came back out and said they had to do outside the rain and dreams again...i nearly DIED. i screamed so loud i think a few ppl in my row were left deaf  BrisVegas was a personal highlight coz i snuck up to the stage before/during the middle of the show. while it was dark, from many rows back. made it to the right hand side with this guy and girl who were just SHAKING coz they were at Mama's feet. then we all got teary when she did Landslide. and B&TB the 2 beside me were BAWLING! I had goosebumps. I dont know if it was being SO close or Stevie was just sooooooo gorgeous up there. but it was magical and very emotional. I completely forgot about the Edge walk til she started doing it. Because we were at the end of the stage...literally the last 3 ppl there, I thought she would miss us [and i can only imagine what would have happened with the guy and the girl beside me] I was prepared to be missed and was happy JUST watching her above my head. but omg she grabbed all of our hands and OH MY GOD.....all 3 of us went balistic screaming **** lol and the guy beside me was freaking out like a crazy person. ordinarily this stupidness would piss me off, but in that moment, it was perfect. and there's just nothing else that even compares to that. last show i saw was Radelaide. my home city. i was prepared for disappointment. Coz we're a slack ass city and very unenthusiastic. the Mac show here in 2004 was nothing but embarrassing. but that was in the middle of summer outside. this was in the entertainment center. I had a few margaritas before i left...and i only live 5 mins down the road, but was nonetheless 30 mins late haha and got ushered to the stage in the dark with Vanessa playing coz i had front row :D i have never been less than 2 hours early for a show EVER. I don't remember much, but it was the BEST show of the 3 i went to. Outside the Rain was kick #$&ing ass. There was some tech probs with If Anyone Falls. but she just carried on with her fabulousness. What i really just remember was that she seemed so pumped and was so smiley and happy. and i loved her talking to the audience and she laughs at her own stories. sooooooo cute. don't remember Edge but she grabbed my hand with both of her's. in Brissy it was one handed. i think i died after that. sorry, this is long. i noticed a LOT of people video recording in Brisbane...anyone here film anything worthwhile from that show? I'd love to see it. |
I saw Stevie with Don Henley in Detroit in '05. Once again I had crappy seats but the show turned out to be amazing anyway. Seeing Stevie sing on Hotel California, Last Worthless Evening and New York Minute are still one of my top highlights from seeing her live. When Stevie came out for Hotel California the applause was absolutely nuts. Those two also did Circle Dance which was so pretty. And I'm pretty sure it was at this concert that I told my mom to "shut up" cause she was trying to talk during BATB lol.
Best part of the show was when the nice, older security guard lady let me go up front for Edge. It was my first time seeing Stevie solo and I had never been anywhere near the stage. I was shaking like a leaf lol. Stevie came down right to me and took both my hands. I think I yelled, "Thank you!" and "I love you!" She smiled and said thank you back. By this time my mom had come down too and afterwards we were jumping up and down like maniacs. That is still one of my most exciting moments in my life lol. After the show my friend and I ran into Chris Nicks. We talked to him for about 5 min. I didn't tell my mom who it was while we were talking to him because I didn't want her to say anything stupid. So when we're walking away I'm like, you know that was Stevie's brother? And she's like, you're kidding me. And she runs back over to him and gives him a hug and she's like, "omg I did not know who you were my daughter didn't tell me and oh my god we just love stevie..." blah blah blah. I almost died. He thought she was hilarious though and he just smiled and laughed and waved at us again and then we left. It was an awesome night. |

I decided to skip the Chicago show with Henley to see her by herself at Summerfest in Milwaukee. It was half the price! I like Don Henley, but half the price! Anyway held off buying tickets until the morning of. Got two in the 5th row on the side, and made it down to the Edge walk. My friend found this all too alarming and stayed in our seats! I got the two handed grab from Stevie, which as many of you mentioned is always a highlight. This show was on the 4th of July, but she didn't mention it, which I thought was odd. I thought she sounded good. Other funny tidbits: Brett Tuggle surrounded by girls, such a player! Security taking people back to their seats before the Edge walk. I remember this one girl in particular was really driving them crazy, she kept trying to creep down, security kept catching her. Brett Michaels was also playing that night, and so after Stevie was done, my friend dragged me to the other side of the park so we could see the end of his show. Unfortunately we were not treated to an impromptu performance of Love's a Hard Game to Play.

I saw Stevie in '05 in Charlotte, and that's definitely been my favorite solo show of hers I've ever seen. She was just radiant... her vocals were great, her outfits and hair were stellar, and she seemed to be having the time of her life. It was night and day compared to seeing her in Charlotte the year before with Fleetwood Mac. No lifeless Steviebot that night!
I also saw Stevie with Tom Petty the opening night of his tour in '06 in Charlotte. That was the first time they had performed Insider together since the '80s, and I can't describe how special it was for me to be there and see that. Seeing the real deal of Stevie and Tom singing Stop Dragging My Heart Around was just surreal, also something I never thought I'd see. I'd say this show was overall the happiest, bubbliest, and most enthusiast I've ever seen Stevie. I didn't get to see Stevie and Don Henley... I don't think their short tour came anywhere near my neck of the woods. I would have liked to though... I've always liked his music with or without the Eagles. I hate I never got to see the live version of New York Minute with Stevie... she sure was a torch singer for that! :D |
2005 - 2006 was a pretty "wild" era in Stevieland. Despite trotting out variations of the same stale setlist over and over while not releasing anything at all (except for that Deep Dish stuff), this was kind of a mini-renaissance for her. She had shed the 2004 SYW bloat and reinvented herself as the next Celine Dion, albeit, without the dancers, the costumes and the multi-octave voice.
I saw: -Two Voices in Philadelphia and Jones Beach. -Gold Dust in Atlantic City and Bristow, VA. -w/Tom Petty at MSG -"Dreams" in Vegas in December 2006 |

I was also at the DTE/Pine Knob show in Clarkston, Mi in '05 for the 2 Voices tour with Don....I am a Don(& the Eagles too) fan also....so I really enjoyed seeing them together....it was special....probably won't happen again so I cherish it all.....I recall being late to my seat though for Don's part maybe by 15min's was bummed. I was at the merchandise booth....we know how that goes....anyway, I didn't miss him or Stevie though together & loved every minute of it.....that will always be a special tour for me.....that SA/Enchanted/2 voices are probably my most favorite ones solo. I did see her for TISL with Sheryl also....it was ok....though Stevie's voice wasn't the best......also saw her for CV 07 & '08.....'07 was better but well had great seats but missed shaking her hands by that much.....I'd not ever been even close the times before (too far of seats...didn't try) first time that I could even try....than she passes over me....so that kinda still makes it a bummer memory for me.....esp when I'm right at the stage....but I'm sure I"m not the only one that this has happend to before......anyway....prices were so high for both '07/08....that when she came back later in '08 at Soundstage I just passed it up/same for the Mac tour.....but I won't forget anytimes that I went for Stevie solo/or with Mac.....since with the prices as high as they are now (unless you want nose bleed which not really).....I'll probably just pass from now on......but its all good I've gotten to see her...some haven't.....I won't forget those times.....mostly good memories over the bad ones.......the memories live on.....:D

2005 was a great year to be a Stevie fan indeed.
After hearing the Jim Ladd interview before Vegas I tried not to get too excited over the nonsense Stevie fed us. Hmm...maybe she really will play The Highwayman...NOT! Let's just say I didn't hold my breath for that one. When we were leaving for the opening night show on 5/10 I told my friend if she plays How Still My Love, Beauty & The Beast, or If Anyone Falls I would be happy. I figured since those three were played often in the past they were the most likely to make an appearance and as luck would have it, Stevie made my night and played all three. I remember thinking her boks didn't look as bad with the legwarmers and longer skirt. I thought her new outfits were great too...especially the all cream colored one she wore towards the end...and the new (at the time) Stand Back outfit with matching cape. Stevie seemed a little nervous and reserved at first...nothing at all like the shows from later in the week I have audience DVDs from where she was much more energetic. She more than made up for this with the first performance of Beauty and the Beast since 1991 (that I know of). Stevie was very much emotionally into B&B that night..to the point she was shaking towards the end of the song. Everyone in the place was silent for the ENTIRE song which was amazing since every show I've seen this song performed at since the people were making all kinds of noise. 2nd show was 2 Voices in Tinley Park, IL. Got to the show at 6:00 and got front row seats. When we walked down to the stage there was no seats for our tickets so they had to get us folding chairs which was funny. This was one of the best Stevie shows I've been to ever...and I've seen quite a few since 1998. She just seemed to be having so much fun on stage with Don...and they were both incredible that night. The highlight was definitely the duets...especially Don's songs and So You Want To Be A Rock & Roll Star which was a lot of fun. 3rd show was the first night of the Gold Dust Tour in Grand Rapids, MI. Got to the arena at 5:30 or so and got front row seats. Another really good show and the first night Rock & Roll was performed. When the drums started I turned to my friend and we both like "Zeppelin???" WTF?? Sorry that was so long...but it was a good year to be a Stevie fan. :D Not sure how I forgot something so important...but I was also at the Milwaukee Summerfest show in the second row. Another great show! |
I saw her in 2005 on the Gold Dust Tour in Cincinnati, Ohio and she looked and sounded so great and was in top form I thought. She was energetic and was having a great time up on stage and there were media and professional photographers there that night I remember seeing and they snapped photos that appeared in the papers the next day.

This was the period when I was most annoyed with Stevie for not doing any European dates. She seemed to be playing LOADS of live gigs on a lot of different tours and having a ball doing it...yet still nothing. Bah!

I'd often wondered what I would say to Stevie if I could only say one thing... I never believed I would get the chance. Well, it was Feb 25th 2006, exactly one week after the Melbourne show, in Sydney. My sister and I had 5th row in front of the middle of the stage. I couldn't have been happier with our seats. That was until Vanessa's set was nearly finished and we overheard a security guard saying they were okaying the first 5 rows to stand at the stage when Stevie came on... We HAD to be at the front. The second we were able we claimed our places at the corner of the speaker right under Stevie's ribbon-laced mic stand. The buzz was amazing.
Then from the moment Stevie walked out onstage the Entertainment Center erupted and I was in awe as I stood before her and sang along to every word of every song. She didn't do Enchanted in Sydney and I wonder where else it may've been dropped. I won't go on about each song tho Stand Back totally proved Stevie could rock fierce and Waddy let loose on those soaring guitar howls. My fave of the concert. When Stevie came out for Edge in the white dress I Whoo-hoo'd and screamed Yes! She knocked the whole thing up a gear with the opening lines. I couldn't believe I was right there hearing this, watching her mouth sing the words, "Just like the white winged dove ... sings a song sounds like she's singin' ";being so close, maybe it was her perfume I could smell suddenly. There was such power in her vocals and her eyes had that same look in them I'd seen in Rhiannon and SOTM on the Mirage Concert (a thousand times on repeat). However, it was only when Stevie started doing the edge walk, I realised, now was probably the only chance I'd get to say anything to this lady who had affected my life so profoundly. I waited for my turn and watched her shake hands, nod and smile alot as she came closer to me. Her left hand was tucked up under her shawl, as was her hair, and I wondered if anyone had actually pulled her hair. My God! She was stooped in front of me, I was holding her hand, she was smiling, I was looking into her eyes. I said, "Thank you SO MUCH for all the music!" I figured my intensity might explain how much. Then she took her other hand out from under the shawl and now held both my hands and she said, "No, thank you!" And she nodded, smiled and squeezed my hands tighter, "really." I can't remember what I said or did right then. Needless to say that moment is always going to be a highlight of my life. Sorry that was long, but that's how I remember it.:] |
Well, as in many other years, 2005 was quite a year for yours truly. I had a chance to see the following shows that year:
5-10, Las Vegas 5-11, Las Vegas 5-13, Las Vegas 7-4, Milwaukee 7-6, Minneapolis 7-13, Tampa 7-14, Fort Lauderdale 7-16, Houston 7-17, Dallas 7-20, Denver(Red Rocks) 7-23, San Diego 7-24, Anaheim 7-26, Los Angeles Highlights were many, but specifically my first show at Red Rocks which I will never forget, as well as the (literally) cross country from Florida to California trip which from Minneapolis and back put 11,500 miles on my car!:lol: I got a chance to see places I'd never thought Id ever see(Key West, Four Corners, Grand Canyon, Hollywood Bowl etc.) This out of all the rodatrips Ive taken over the years was probably mt favorite simply because it was so long anad I got too see so many things. I have to tell you all that there is NOTHING in the world like the feeling of being on an open road just doing what I love. |

memories... although my memory is heavily clouded with tequila and sweet Stevieness i believe she grabbed my hand with both of her's too. i had given her a gift bag which she took and i remember vowing to never wash any of my rings from that day forth, now that she had blessed them :D though as for saying something to her...i believe my sole reaction to her was ... there was no way words were coming out of my mouth. i am seriously envious of those, like yourself who are able to form coherent words in front of her, and that she acknowledges them  i would loved to have gone to sydney. were u in melbourne too? |
