What's your musical guilty pleasure?

Ok, so I have musical guilty pleasures that I keep private, and have never shared with anyone. What are yours? Here are a couple of mine...

Firstly, I *LOVE* Al Stewart's Year Of The Cat album! The whole thing is everything that is corny and wrong about the '70s, but I can't help it! I LOVE it! I bet the fact the album was produced by the incomparable Alan Parsons has a big deal to do with it... he can sew silk out of a sow's ear! The album is the closest thing to getting in a time machine and hitting 1976 that I'll ever get, probably another reason I like it so much. The whole mystical folk tale quality was the original selling point for me. I just hate knowing music like this is extinct, and almost nobody knows about it anymore.

Another one is Ambrosia... they're total 1970s porn music, but I love 'em as well! Also produced by the great Alan Parsons. I think David Pack has one of the prettiest male voices I've ever heard. He has such a fat, juicy tone. I've read where they also toured extensively with the Mac, interesting factoid I never knew! I've often fantasized about doing karaoke to "You're The Only Woman"... the irony of it alone would be freaking hilarious!

Alright, now that I fessed up, it's y'all's turn! :o:woohoo:

AFROMAN!!!

I love Afroman!!

holidayroad 11-16-2009 08:12 AM

Nothing!! Because you shouldn't feel guilty about enjoying what makes you happy!!:)

mylittledemon 11-16-2009 01:44 PM

Louie,

"Time pass-a-jez" Al Stewart always makes me laugh. :D

I like 70s-era Rod Stewart (Do You Think I'm Sexy, etc). I also don't mind listening to that first Wilson Philips album (the one Glen ballard wrote all the songs on). I don't know if it's because it was so popular during my 'growing up' years or not. I also, on occasion, like me some Notorious B.I.G.

Sahara 11-16-2009 02:07 PM

Chris deBurgh.
Don't tell anyone, though ;)

Black_Moon 11-16-2009 02:10 PM

Early nineties rap-music. The likes of old-school Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Public Enemy etc.

You think I'm joking.

Yeah, the moment you mention it as one of your favorite bands you can almost anticipate the reaction.

Yes. I don't get the "guilty" concept. Do you mean something you are ashamed to admit you like? Any band that most critics damn? In that case I always loved the Bee Gees, a megaband that was so rejected during the post Saturday Night Fever years, but later it came back as a true legendary band.

Remy 11-16-2009 03:15 PM

Shameless glitzy r'n'b and Pitbull and Daddy Yankee. :D

nailatixela 11-16-2009 03:35 PM

Yes Fleetwood Mac, along with Lady Gagagag

 I've had that look many times.

I also like Spandau Ballet. I saw them live a few weeks back and they were absolutely brilliant!

AgeOldDesire 11-16-2009 04:10 PM

Stevie Nicks.

Pause.

Who's he?

Not at all keen on Chris DeBurgh but different strokes and all that...

I have to agree that I don't really have musical guilt as such but I know what others would consider a guily pleasure...

Belinda Carlisle and Roxette! I love them!

I had a conversation like that with a friend a few weeks ago. It took awhile for said friend to actually understand that YES Stevie is "the girl" and YES Lindsey is "the bloke".

Is the lead female singer of Roxette still alive? I remember hearing years ago she had a brain tumor or something. I suppose I could look it up, but I'm feeling lazy. I also like Belinda, saw her a couple of times recently with the Go-Go's. I was happy when they did Mad About You.

It would probably shock the sh*t outta a whole lotta people, especially even on THIS board, that I STILL listen to a helluva lot more Stevie Nicks than ANYONE would even believe.

ALSO:

Vixen
Linda Ronstadt (from Stone Poneys up to her first "Canciones" album)
Alan Parsons Project
And, what the hell is wrong with Al Stewart?? He was GREAT! Year Of The Cat was by far his WORST album, yet it sold the most...hmmmm...says volumes about 70s music buying public, I think.

The entire 70's "progressive rock" genre:

Yes
Flash (w/ex-Yes guitarist Peter Banks)
Focus
Emerson, Lake & Palmer
early Genesis
Gentle Giant
King Crimson
Triumvirat
Starcastle
PFM
The Nice
Procol Harum
Curved Air
Daryl Way's Wolf
Camel
Nektar
among others

Anything with Peter Gabriel's name attached to it should never be considered a guilty pleasure!

gretchen 11-16-2009 07:18 PM

Gino Vannelli's album 'Brother To Brother", I love it!

Delicious!

golddustdrummer 11-16-2009 08:09 PM

40s big band. 80s hair metal. 90s rap/r&b. and I still know all the words to every single Spice Girls song.

Ghost_Tracker 11-16-2009 10:30 PM

Scorpions. Greatest Heavy Metal band ever.

:]

vivfox 11-16-2009 10:32 PM

Twenty years ago I was embarrassed by some of the music I liked but now that I'm older IDGAF what anyone thinks. I love the music of Andy Williams!

I own an Ambrosia album. I've had it for 20 years or more. Have you heard "Holding On To Yesterday" and "Time Waits For No One?"

So, so guilty.

And Snow Patrol, Lil Wayne (when the mood strikes me), Goo Goo Dolls, Cher (I was OBSESSED for about a year... I was 8).... I have a bunch of guilty pleasures.

Yes! Two of my favs... Holding On To Yesterday was what baited me into Ambrosia!

mylittledemon 11-16-2009 10:43 PM

Didnt they sing "How Much I Feel" ?

I'm really surprised you'd list Alan Parsons as a guilty pleasure! The man's a genius! His production style from the 1970s was way ahead of it's time in my opinion.

haha... yep! Someone mentioned Belinda Carlisle... I too liked her voice, and The Go-Gos. I saw them in orlando in 2003? 2004? They sounded great but the drummer was angry at the crowd. Very much a drag.

You've lost SO much of my respect by liking Lady GagMe!

I love the Snow Patrol song Counting Cars... apparently Stevie does too! She mentioned it in a recent interview.

I HATED Gaga for a long time... and then like a month ago, I got randomly inspired. I mean, you have to admit it-- her stuff is catchy. I think I just heard her music so often (as in 24/7) in the world of high school girls that I learned to appreciate it hahahahaha. She is one craaaaaaaazy bitch though.

Twitchy, anyone?

Amlyn 11-16-2009 11:05 PM

I have, on occassion, been known to not be too forthcoming about my secret love of Air Supply. I know, beyond cheesy, but i just love driving in the car and singing along to them.

Count me in the Ambrosia pool, although I really only know their popular stuff. Also love America and find myself listening to The Beatles and The Beach Boys lately. Ooh and the Association too.

Ah, what the hell, I'll throw in The Cure too.

Ok, that takes care of the ABCs for now.

Yeah, i found myself in a store one day not so long ago tapping my foot along to Poker Face. I must admit I went surfing on You Tube in order to listen to it for the next few days.

I do think she's here for now. Not sure how long she'll stay around. But I probably said the same thing about Britney 10 years ago.

I have liked every single Lady GaGa has released so far. But not enough to buy the CD. It's good music in the moment. I heard the new Madonna single today called Celebrate. I liked it. I kissed a girl and I liked it.

Yes, Marie Fredriksson of Roxette is still alive.

holidayroad 11-17-2009 09:21 AM

I guess if I have one thing that may border on being a guilty music pleasure it's that I like to listen to The Partridge Family!
