Was there a support act at your concert??

Apparently there is going to be a support act at the Brisbane concerts...Killing Heidi is the band, and while I don't mind them, I want ONLY Fleetwood Mac to play!!!!

Are they having support bands at any other concerts in the US or Europe/England??? I hope so, cause otherwise I'm scared.

What if the support band's on for an HOUR or something, and then Fleetwood Mac's only on for another hour?!!?!?!?!?!

I am mildly reassured by the fact Stevie had Vanessa Carlton as her special guest / support act for her 2006 solo tour, and that didn't detract at all from the amazing concert Stevie did...and I honestly really enjoyed watching Vanessa too.

So...yeah.

Dublin gig was supposed to have The Riptide Movement.. (sorry, who? :p) as a support act but a few days before the concert O2 sent out a text to say there'd be no support.. thought as much.. the set is 2 hours and 45 minutes! Sans interval!

grace_face 11-10-2009 10:25 PM

WOW, 2 hours and 45 mins with NO interval!? God I HOPE it's exactly like that for my show too...why would they need a support act then!? Maybe Killing Heidi won't be on after all. Good. *whispering* Sorry Killing Heidi. lol

justcrazylove 11-10-2009 11:45 PM

It is not Killing Heidi it's Ella hoopers new band with her brother "the verses" http://www.myspace.com/theverses

There is nothing wrong with a support slot, it will not cut into the main set, end of story!
don't forget Fleetwood Mac used to play support slots!

looking forward to the tour i'm seeing 5 shows!

It was like that at the show I went to. No opening act, and it went on for just about three hours.

grace_face 11-11-2009 12:00 AM

Oh, Ella's new band, eh? Cool.

I don't care if there's a support act or what. Just as long as FM's time is the FULL time! WOO! lol

PutTheBlameOnMe 11-11-2009 12:01 PM

At the last Wembley show and the Birmingham show they didn't have any support.

I can't stand support acts, I get really bored and I find that half the time the support bands are (in my opinion) rubbish.

GoldDustWoman87 11-11-2009 12:08 PM

No support act at Manchester 27/10. Thankfully. They bore me. And FM doesn't need one. :wavey:

nailatixela 11-11-2009 12:45 PM

I haven't heard anyone mention any opening acts, they haven't had any all tour. When was the last time someone opened up for Fleetwood Mac? Did they have any on the dance tour? I know they did on the BTM tour. I don't know what makes an artist want/not want someone to open up for them.

SorcererJP 11-11-2009 04:52 PM

Well, sometimes an opening act is quite good. Last week I saw Heather Nova and she had Ben(jamin) Taylor opening for her. Ben s the son of James Taylor and Carly Simon..so I was expecting something...and he was very good.

Anyway, saw no opening act on this tour or the SYW-tour.

Saw 'Hans Vermeulen' (Sany Coast/Rainbow Train) opening for the Time-line up in 1994.

Saw Chris de Burgh opening for them in 1990 (Mask) and The Adventurers in 1988 for the TitN-tour.

Richard Marx opened for Stevie in 1989 during her last European solo-tour (gee, is that really 20 years ago??).

All I can remember from those acts is keep looking at my watch to see of it wasn't time yet to quit :-)

grace_face 11-11-2009 08:04 PM

Maybe it was just a rumour, eh? Heheh. *pun*

BellaDonna93 11-12-2009 02:14 PM

They were a little late coming on (lucky for us :p), is that included in the 2 hours 45 minutes?
Even if it is, it's still well over 2 hours. That's brilliant :)

Well, the time my GYOW video was created on my phone was 22.25 and it was mid way through.. (OCD much? ;)) and then we had World Turning, Don't Stop and Silver Springs, which is at least another 20 minutes I reckon?

Sahara 11-13-2009 02:46 PM

I'd put it at around 20 minutes more, yep.
That's really impressive. Imagine how long they would have played if they'd HAD an interval!

chiliD 11-13-2009 07:45 PM

Hmmmm...some of the acts I've seen open for Fleetwood Mac:

Blue Swede (1974)
Climax Blues Band (1974)
Little Feat (1975/76)
Mistress (1975)
UFO (1976)
Stephen Bishop (1977)
Sanford-Townsend Band (1977)
Danny Douma (1979)
Dave Mason (1982)
The Cruzados (1987)
No opening act in 1990
Roger McGuinn (ex-Byrds) (1994)
No opening act in 1997 or 2003

Acts that I've seen Fleetwood Mac open FOR:

Loggins & Messina (1975)
Rod Stewart & Faces (1975)
Dave Mason Band (1976)

If there is an opening act, PLEASE get there early and support them. Of all the concerts I've been to, I've discovered some great music by being there early to watch the opening band(s). There've been LESS than a handful of concerts where the opening act has been just terrible. Of the over 200 concerts I've seen, maybe less than FIVE have had an opening act that I didn't like.

Plus you saw Christopher Cross open in 1980 -- not memorable save for an appearance by Nicolette Larson, who sang that wonderfully plaintive tune "Lotta Love."

Didn't you see Squeeze open for Mac in 1990 at Irvine Meadows in June?

This. I've found some of my current favorite bands because they opened for bands that I went to see headline. I won't lie, it's not always an appealing thought to wait through a band you don't particularly want to see while waiting for the band you DO want to see, but a lot of the time, it's worth it and I've ended up pleasantly surprised way more times than not. This past tour, my favorite band had two openers and a co-headliner and I ended up loving all three! Not only that, but I've been on the other end where the person I love is opening for someone else and know that a supportive audience really helps make that person's set more enjoyable.

I don't like support acts for FM and I'm annoyed the Australian promoter has chosen to do this when US and Europe didn't. If Silver Springs gets dropped because the concert runs over there will be a lot of very pissed-off fans!

I don't blame you for worrying. Sorry folks, but I have no use for opening acts at this stage of the game. Years ago, now that's another story. In 1980 I saw The Little River Band and Heart open up for The Eagles. Both of those bands were better than the headliner.

You're right Sharon, but I make it a point to skip the opening act unless I am familiar with their music. Even for Stevie and FM I'm usually running into the arena at the last minute anyways. And in my stoner days I was out in the parking lot puffing away during the opening act of any band I had paid to see.

I think the nature of the support acts in the FM world has changed from, say, thirty years ago to fifteen/twenty years ago up to the present.

Back when Mac was super-big & even Stevie Nicks was super-big, the support acts were usually bands or singers with current or former hit singles anyway: Kenny Loggins, Bob Welch, Christopher Cross, Men at Work, John Stewart, Joe Walsh, Peter Frampton, Michael McDonald, Boz Scaggs, Glenn Frey, Zombies, Squeeze &c.

But later on, most of the support acts were unknowns or little-knowns: Darden Smith in 1994, the guy in 1991. And now Fleetwood & Stevie & Lindsey all play most of the time without any support act.

Ahhh...yes...Christoper Cross. I was walking in the Hollywood Bowl when he was singing "Sailing"...I think Nicolette came on after that...then he was full on into his set closer "Ride Like The Wind" by the time I got to my seat. (My one & only "limo ride concert"...almost missed CC due to "extra curricular backseat activities" on the way there...ooops! "TMI"....:sorry: :o )

Oh, and let's not forget the late Peter Ivers at the Universal Amphitheatre show in the summer of '76. (when they debuted "You Make Loving Fun")

No, I didn't make that Irvine Meadows show...too bad, too, some of the "Skies The Limit" video footage was taken there that night (although a majority of the video footage is from Red Rocks in Colorado).

Steve, check in with me & let me know how things are doing. I don't have your new e-mail address. Are you practicing piano today? I'm practicing.
