Favorite album cover

Lots of Fleetwood Mac albums have interesting front covers so I wondered what covers fans liked the best. My fave is the cover for Mirage.

TrueFaith77 10-22-2009 08:41 AM

Tusk or Say You Will or Bare Trees or Rumours or Behind the Mask or Time or Future Games

GODDESS6 10-22-2009 08:45 AM

mirage or rumours~ but tusk has the coolest inner pics of any stevie/fm lp~

chriskisn 10-22-2009 08:53 AM

I can almost put money on the fact that no-one is going to say Mr Wonderful or English Rose  (go and check out the covers if you don't know what I'm talking about)

Personally though I think Rumours has the best cover.

Mr. Wonderful isn't so bad...

Mystery To Me, then Mirage, then Behind The Mask.

Mirage.

jbrownsjr 10-22-2009 10:59 AM

Mirage... I remember when all the displays came out... and they were blowin up Christine McVie on MTV with Hold me..

markolas 10-22-2009 11:16 AM

Tango in the Night.

Oh, and English Rose has a fabulous cover.

BellaDonna93 10-22-2009 11:41 AM

Rumours, of course and Mirage!!! :) Tango also has a really beautiful cover!

Lots of Mirage love here. That's surprising to me because when I see it I always think: who are those people? And it's Lindsey appearing at his most, um, what's the right word... sapphic...

Oh I love English Rose :D And I should mention Then Play on as well. But my favourite is Kiln House I guess. Christine is such a good painter. I'm always surprised by the many details this cover has. And of course I love Rumours. It's just classic.

chiliD 10-22-2009 12:30 PM

TIME (say what you will about the music inside, but the cover is pretty damned cool!)

KILN HOUSE (I could look at it for hours...and have)

THEN PLAY ON (the original UK cover was just black with white lettering...BOOOOOOORING!!)

MYSTERY TO ME (Ok, like the kid at the end of the TV show Bones...."what's that mean?".)

PENGUIN (what's going to make you buy the album quicker than seeing a pissed off penguin coming at you?)

BARE TREES (exquisite in its simplicity)

FUTURE GAMES (and I'll go on record to say that I like the original YELLOW cover moreso than the GREEN cover they changed it to.

Yes, those are awesome (just not as much MY kinda thing as my faves), but it leads to the question: Why did Christine stop designing covers?

Fannymac 10-22-2009 02:01 PM

Of the "Big Five"....I'd have to go with MIRAGE and THE DANCE.....and then add in KILN HOUSE!

Rumours.....then, The Dance(love the busted piano).

Mirage is my favorite, followed by SYW. The Live cover is pretty cool as well!

Least Favs: Tango and BTM

daniellaaarisen 10-22-2009 05:09 PM

Rumours and Mirage, hands down. Rumours is just so so classic and ethereal, though, and really defines the band for me... so I'm gonna go with Rumours.

I'd say Mirage for me also...but I do love the outtakes from the LP cover & the other various outtakes taken for the so called tourbook that never happend.....I like the ones where Stevie is actucally looking towards the camera.....so I may like Mirage but not the specific picture on the cover......Rumours would be next....but again I love the outtakes to those sessions. I think the one that Stevie has the Top Hat on is way better than the picture that was used.....I wish I could say Tusk but I so hate the dog on the cover....they have so many great Tusk outtakes during that era why did they put the stupid dog on the cover (ya I know it was Lindseys dog right.....).....I think Live could've been much better ....don't like the blurry photo...ugh.....Tango....ugh.....Mask....its like who are 'those' people...esp when your trying to promote the 'new' band members....it made no sense really to me.....I do like Dance/for the outtakes of Dance they were good too....another tourbook that we should've had really......better than SYW.....they had some nice outtakes that they could've used for the cover......I'll not ever understand why they picked what they picked (heck for all the various covers sometimes.....just like the no tourbooks....I guess I could say that about song selection as well on the LPs too.....) anyway.......thats IMO.......:nod:

 When I see it, I think "Shouldn't this cover be switched with TITN's?"

I actually don't think there is a Mac album cover I don't like, except for Behind The Mask. I really like Then Play On; I want that poster-sized so I can hang it somewhere!

Was it Lindsey's dog? I didn't know that. I have suspected the guy is only into poodles -- and kitty cats. Stevie is so funny about it though. She said she had very little to do with Tusk, because if she had: (1) it wouldn't have taken 13 months to record and (2) it wouldn't have had that dog on the cover looking ferocious.

I don't know how she described it -- biting someone's leg off or something. She is so hilarious. Rumpled ball of tuskness.

I don't know I thought I'd heard it in an interview or read it somewhere that the dog on the cover was Lindsey's than dog?? Can anyone clear this up?? or know something.....anyway......

fleetwoodtrick 10-22-2009 07:32 PM

Rumours all the way.

Rumours all the way, followed by Tusk & the Pious Bird of Good Omen.

John's photo on Bare Trees is nice, but sort of the equivalent of hotel-room art.

David, would you mind telling me the story behind the Tusk cover? You can PM me if you want, I'm dying to know! (He's everywhere in the LP insert too!)

EDIT: I just read the posts that were before I posted. Ooops. I still don't understand though, and I'd love an explanation! :D

I don't have a story on the cover. I think it's Richard Dashut's dog biting John McVie's sneaker-clad foot. My dog Tammy used to bite my feet in play. She loved sinking her collie teeth into my Van's. Sometimes, when her teeth went too deep, I flinched visibly. What great times we had.

Think of the dog as a metaphor for the band, sinking its fangs into the complaisant & boring music industry in 1978.

The rest of the art -- all those calligraphy-like scribblings -- was journal pages by the photographer Peter Beard. From the looks of all the scribblings, Beard must have spent a good deal of time not only in Africa but in Los Angeles with the band during the recording process. Bummer he hasn't ever talked about that year in detail.

*collective gasp* I'm shocked. But I'm also surprised that I haven't seen it talked about more on here.

:) My dog likes to lick the carpet. He gets his tongue stuck sometimes. And my best friend's Brittany Spaniel puppy has bit me on the INSIDE of my nose several times. Buhlud.

And thanks for the info on the art. I was very confused! (And I still kind of am.) But when I'm bored I sometimes dig out the Tusk LP and look at the art until my eyes hurt. I still don't think I've memorized every detail!

Oh and whose baby is that pulling on CM's hair!? I lol'd when I saw that!

I agree. Though I like the LIVE cover too. And I always loved the Behind the Mask picture. It's the best cover where no member appears

And THE DANCE was a cool cover for a reunion album

this thread should have been a poll!!!!
