Enchanted Tour Stories

A reading from the dictionary...

Here is the place to share your memories from the Enchanted tour! Only 11 years ago, so you better remember! ;)

What did you think of this tour? Really unique setlist. Stevie's voice was in great form. If you were lucky enough to see her please share anything you remember from that night. :)

Well, I thought it was pretty boring. I think I saw two shows: one in Irvine & one in Universal City. I don't really have any stories, but Brad Pitt was in the audience at Universal.

I guess my favorite moment was hearing the expert Boz Scaggs band perform "Lowdown." Man, they were funky & tight.

First Mac related concert. It was about a month before my 20th birthday. I wasn't able to see them on the Dance tour (and I'll always regret it, never getting to see Chris). I saw her in Tinley Park, IL at the World Music Center (where I also had my high school graduation a couple of years before), and figured the sound would be awful because it's a craptacular venue. Everything bounces back to the stage off the supporting pillars, and the artist can't hear anything. I played on that stage many times in my junior high and high school band days.

Anyway my two friends went with me because I tolerated other concerts they wanted to see, and they owed me! There is only so many times one needs to see the Goo Goo Dolls. At the time I didn't appreciate the uniqueness of the set list because I didn't have anything to compare it to. I remember Boz Scaggs opened and we were like who the hell is Boz Scaggs? Then he played one song that we all knew (Look what you've done to me), and we were like oh that guy. Our seats were okay in the second section and a little to the side. I also remember seeing one of my friend's from junior high parents. Her name was Rhiannon and all the teachers used to sing the song to her, eventually so did the rest of us. She hated it, not surprisingly she wasn't there!

I really liked the acoustic set and hearing the Mac songs since I hadn't been able to see them yet. I remember she sounded pretty good (sound system did okay despite the limitations of the venue) to me, but wasn't too chatty, although she introduced all of the songs and talked about the acoustic set being something different, etc. We made our way to the front for the Edge walk (yeah we were a talented group when it came to stage maneuvering). Stevie locked eyes with me for part of the song and it was pretty intense moment for me, almost like she could see through me. It was cool and weird at the same time.

Musically, it was the best of the solo shows I've seen (I've seen all her later tours). I also remember she was into the sparkly jewel stickers between her eyes at the time. I think Jessica had introduced them to her. Also my friends and I were weirded out by the women dressed up as her. I didn't know too much about her fandom at the time. I honestly thought this might be the only opportunity to see her, and that Fleetwood Mac wouldn't tour again or Stevie for that matter, after all she was 51! My only requirement was hearing Landslide, and it was met, everything else was gravy as far as I was concerned.

I saw the Enchanted tour in Raleigh in '98... it was my first time seeing Stevie. I had seen the Time lineup in '94, but then Fleetwood Mac canceled their Carolina dates in '97. I was only 15 in '97, so I couldn't take off across the country to go see the kids. Anyway, I'd been a fan since '93, so I was terribly excited to see her (especially after the letdown of the Time concert, and the canceled Dance concert). Her outfits for the Enchanted tour were visually stunning... the floor length shawls, all the colors and textures. Just beautiful. I was knocked out at how gorgeous she was in person too... for 50 years old, she had the face of a porcelain doll. I was so surprised at how chatty she was between songs... because all the concert footage I'd seen of her, she kinda came onstage and sang, then promptly left for another costume change. I remember my Mom saying her favorite songs of the whole night were Stevie's acoustic "trilogy" songs... Garbo, Rose Garden, and After the Glitter Fades. Which really surprised me... I thought only a hardcore fan would enjoy those, and that she'd only enjoy the hits.

Looking back on it now, my funniest memory of this show was the guy standing RIGHT behind us. He had a pair of binoculars, and was about as drunk as you could be and still be upright on two feet. He kept screaming "YEEAAAAH!!!" and "Stevie I'd f*ck you good! Like you've never been f*cked before!!!" "YEAAAAAH!!!" I was mortified, because I was an awkward teenager with my parents at a concert  . Looking back on it now, I get a pretty good chuckle out of it :D. Especially since Stevie had to of been at least 20+ years older than him... but I guess he wanted a cougar... rarrr!!

My only real dislike about this concert is that I experienced it when I did. I wasn't really much into Stevie's solo career at the time, and couldn't appreciate hearing rare gems such as Gold and Braid, Garbo, Rose Garden, and Sleeping Angel. But I still just adored the show... and cherish to this day I got to go!

She did Gold and Braid during Enchanted?! I should know these things, but I never knew that. I'm going to have to find a video.

I saw the Tinley Park, IL show, as well as Atlanta later on. It was my first time seeing Stevie solo, having been a fan for many years up to that time.

The setlist was mostly well-chosen, particularly the previously mentioned rarities. I would have preferred "Rooms On Fire" over "Whole Lotta Trouble", and I wish she would have done "If Anyone Falls", but overall it was hard to complain.

She was pretty energetic, particularly during "Stand Back" with a high kick at the end.

Voice sounded pretty much the same as on "The Dance" tour...pretty strong, but she did sound strained on the higher notes on "Rhiannon". I can see why she stopped trying for those higher range areas.

All in all, a highly enjoyable concert.

Ah... the Enchanted Tour. That show was the first concert I'd been to in several years and there were many more after that... it sparked something in me. Lilith and Enchanted will forever be linked in my memory. I was a newly reborn Fleetwood Mac fan, so Stevie's box set and tour was gravy and very exciting for me. It was actually my first Stevie solo show. I hadn't bought an album of hers since Bella Donna, so much of the material was new to me. My first thought during the show was that she lacked energy, although her voice was stunning live, filling up the cavernous arena. Loved the wardrobe changes, particularly the white shawl jacket for HAEWAFY. It's an icon in and of itself, thanks to the Tango tour DVD. I loved the acoustic set, though I wasn't familiar with many of the songs. Also loved her interaction with the audience and when she brought her puppy out on stage at the end of the show. I spent weeks putting my outfit together, realizing after I got there, most women don't dress like Stevie at her concerts anymore. I took pictures with a disposable from my level 2 seat because I didn't know anything about taking pictures at concerts, boy did they turn out grainy. The set decorations were very hippie chic/Lilith too with the long silk panels and Morocaan decorations.

Below is my review from nicksfix.com - funny how I tried to sound like a seasoned fan when it was actually my first show. I spent weeks beforehand studying other show reviews so I would be "up to speed." - it seems so hilarous now.

August 8, 1998 - It's no surprise to this writer that the Stevie Nicks Enchanted Tour ended on a night when the moon was full. And in a town called Portland, Oregon.
With 7 different shawls and 2 complete costume changes, Ms. Nicks entertained a crowd of mostly aging baby boomers and a handful of younger fans. One was about 5 and wearing a light blue tutu. She sat in the front row.

The show opened with a light electrical set and a tune called Outside the Rain. Picking up the pace, Stevie announced to her band members that since this was the last show of the tour, they could feel free to get all their aggressions out tonight. Apparently the band fared well over the last 40 shows because there didn't seem to be a lot of aggressiveness, only fun and frolicking among the players. The third song into the set, Ms. Nicks offered her first trade mark twirl during Gold Dust Woman. Ad-libbing a bit ("pick up the pieces, pick up the pieces, pick up those pieces..and go on") the crowd began to show signs of life. The song Rhiannon was next and Ms. Nicks began to infect the audience. A rolicking Gold and Braid and Whole Lotta Trouble followed. Stevie showed her talented trademark tambourine playing during these songs. A lax security let front row patrons and fans to the stage at this point.

The band then formed a standing/sitting horseshoe as some members picked up acoustic instruments. Stopping a moment to explain how the next three songs came to be, Stevie related how they were written during her career when she and former lover/fellow FM player Lindsey Buckingham were a duo and an item. The set began with After the Glitter Fades, followed by Garbo which she explained was written right after her infamous picture of what now appears on the album titled Buckingham/Nicks. She poigniently related how hurt she was at the time for having to have posed for the shot. Next was Rose Garden. Stevie explained how the song was so very prophetic because she knew in her heart that she was on to something big. And she couldn't have been more right in her feeling and in her words to this song. Next, with lighters glittering throughout the audience, Ms. Nicks and her guitar player stood solo and performed an awesome and flawless rendition of Landslide. When the set was over, Ms. Nicks approached the microphone and announced warmly "Now that that's over, I'll be right back." And she was escorted off stage.

Now halfway into the show, the audience was treated to a solo by the drummer and percussionist. The crowd was pleased with the talent and broke into cheering several times during the solo. The keyboard player took the stage and added a hot synthesizer melody as Ms. Nicks came out in her traditional black and gold "Stand Back" shawl. This was clearly her favorite song of the night. There was much dancing on stage, including a mambo with her guitar player which drew plenty of applause from the audience. The song written for the movie "Twister" titled "Twisted" came next with a definitively different version edge from the song off the Enchanted box set. It had a much more bluesy feel to it and was this reviewer's dream. Afterwards, the bass player decided to be a crowd pleaser and went to the edge of the stage and shook hands with fans.

Another brief exit from the stage followed. The trademark bongo solo began soon followed by opening stanzas for "Edge of Seventeen." Ms. Nicks emerged from right stage in a glittering silver dress and pleased the crowd to no end with flawless vocals and her customary handshaking with those standing near the edge of the stage.

The group's first encore, a Tom Petty cover titled "Need to Know," seemed to have taken the audience by surprise, however, Ms. Nicks thoroughly enjoyed it. The second and final encore was "Has anyone ever written anthing for you." There were several shouts from the crowd "We Love you Stevie..." About 3 lines into the song, she turned to her right towards the bass player, put her hand to her mouth and took about 4 steps away from the microphone. She continued her turn around and sang the rest of the song. Those who know where wondering whether she was going to finish the song with a dry face. Amazingly, she did.

After the last encore Ms. Nicks lovingly brought all of her cast and crew onstage including her dog Sarah, whom she affectionately introduced to the entire audience. She thanked everyone for making this truly special night, the last night of her tour, even more special. She also wished the traditional, "Take care of yourselves so we can come back and do this again."

I attended 5 shows on this tour: Chicago, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus, and Indianapolis, and the weather was bizarre to say the least. The first show in Chicago it had to be almost 100 degrees with about 200% humidity. Then in Cleveland it was signifigantly cooler and rained nontsop all day the day of the show and finally quit about an hour before the concert. In Cincinnati it was more of the same all day rain and finally stopping before the show started. And the there was Columbus and Indianapolis where it was ABSOLUTELY F***ING FREEZING! In Columbus the showtime temp was 50 at the very most, and the next night in Indianapolis it was even worse, about 45. This was June mind you! The shows themselves were excellent with alot of variety in my opinion and I really enjoyed Boz Scaggs as the opening act.

From what I remember...

I have to admit that I dont remember a lot of detail from this show, I do remember some things. First, After the Glitter Fades, Rose Garden, Sleeping Angel, Garbo acoustic set was just awesome. I never thought I would hear ANY of those songs live...especially Garbo. It has always been one of my favorite songs.

Secondly, Stevie looked absolutely beautiful. I saw her here in Tampa at the Times Forum and we were in the 7th row. My partner at the time (God rest his soul now) had never seen Stevie live before and always gave me a hard time about how into her I was. Well, that night changed it all. He saw exactly what I was talking about all that time. I think he fell in love with her that night also.

Lastly, Cher had been in town sometime in the 3-4 months right around Stevie's date here in Tampa. The highlight of the whole night for me was walking out of the arena talking to my partner Matt about how he enjoyed the show. His words were...She kicked the **** out of that Cher show a few months ago. Girl can really sing!!...and it was all live! lol

Now who is the real Diva here? lol

I don't remember it being that hot or uncomfortable in Chicago (Tinley). Was it still winter in Minnesota and you weren't used to it?

I went to see this show at PNC Arts Center. This was the first time I ever went to any concert with lawn seating, so of course it was a rainy night. We were soaking wet and covered in mud. But so was everyone else, and I think it only added to the whole experience that we were in it together. I was with a group of about 8 friends. We were to busy celebrating someone's birthday to make it in to see Boz Scaggs. Anyway, Stevie and the band totally rocked. Her voice sounded great, she smiled and just was very happy, and up throught the entire show despite the outdoor weather challenges. I was glad to have heard songs that I'd never seen Stevie perform before, Garbo was amazing. Another great experience that left me feeling completely Enchanted.:)

I was at the opening night show in Hartford, so the set list was a complete surprise. I remember how surprised I was when the band started playing "Enchanted". that was the night's first surprise. Then "Gold And Braid" was the next surprise. When the acoustic set started, I thought I would pass out! Then "Twisted" was something I never expected!

Well I saw Stevie that night at DTE/or Pine Knob still to all of us here in Michigan.....I know it was a very hot night....the humidity was awful that day & night. I think it was like the 2nd or 3 rd show of the tour in May. So it was early on. (I was a big Red Wings fan at that time/they were playing in the Western Conf finals vs Dallas that night/some of the crowd told us the score).....( our hockey team here/I say I was but not so much now. Not that I don't hope the best or want them to win ....but the strike yr did it to me really.....anyway).....I loved all the merchandise there was such wonderful stuff to chose from....I'd say it was the best......but being my greedy self (at times....) more could've been added or done. I think the tourbook could've been better with many more outtake pictures from her solo career....plus a special poster would've been nice too.....or heck new flicker 3-d cards ...something rare & special for a special tour.....anyway. I think it was one of her best set lists......besides SA tour.....this was my 2nd solo concert live of hers. (Had seen her with Fmac for Mask/Dance)......I loved hearing Gold & Braid/Sleeping Angel/After The Glitter Fades/Garbo....Twisted/Whole Lotta Trouble.....the whole night was great.....its better than the CV's 07/08 combined for me.......anyway.....its not a night I'll forget......

I didn't get to see this tour unfortunately cause I was busy being married and had a 1 year old. Stevie went to the back burner for a couple years...then I tried to see her for TISL in Rochester on 9/12 but then 9/11 happened:mad: But I so wished I could have seen her perform some of the rareties she through into this setlist!

Well, not in Early June. I remember it being at least 90 degress at that Chicago show. Interesting thing is, I had seen Fleetwood Mac in Indianapolis the previous October at what was then called Deer Creek Music Center and the weather that day was like 70 and not a cloud in the sky. Yet the following June it was overcast and 45. Go figure?!

Apparently I was so mesmerized by La Nicks, I didn't notice the heat.:] Now that I think back a little more I do believe I might have been a little sweaty!

Luke, you know you miss the Midwest, especially Chicago with its low sales-tax, great weather (it's 50 and raining and windy today), cheap parking... On the other hand I have tickets to Faust at the Lyric next week to remind me why I still enjoy big city living.

I don't think ive ever told my story of the Enchanted Tour on here, so here goes:

I was 8 or 9 years old at the time when she came through Boston for this tour. All of my aunts and uncles went and my mother. We met at my grandmothers house where everyone surprised me with a limo. Yes, I got to go to the concert in a limo. It was kickass.

We had 10th row seats on the right side of the stage. I remember the show starting and seeing Stevie walk out behind the back up singers. I remember on Gold Dust Woman she did a lot of twirls in the middle and it was awesome. My mother promised me she would do Gold and Braid and I believed her (if she had promised me a song like this with Stevie now, i would be sorely disappointed). Anyway, I was mesmerized with the HBO vid at the time and G&B was my favorite. When she started it, I couldn't believe it. However, I remember being a tad disappointed when she didn't do the high kicks in the middle. Anyway, that was pretty much my dream come true.

I vaguely remember the acoustic set, but I remember being so excited when she started Sleeping Angel (I had it on repeat when the box set came out). Stand Back rocked the house! When she came out for Rhiannon my aunt grabbed me and we ran down to the stage. I specifically remember Stevie giving her all on this one. I remember singing along to Whole Lotta Trouble.

On Landslide I know she said "Lindsey would kill me if he found out I was doing this song." Not sure what that meant, but whatever.

The real highlight was Edge of Seventeen. I had a stuffed Beanie Baby for her, but my mom didn't think she would be able to reach to me. So I threw the bear and it landed on an amp. My mother held me over rows of people and she was in serious pain. But she did it for me and Stevie came to me, crouched down on the stage, and grabbed both of my hands. I remember she said "hello" with the warmest, loving smile. I didn't know what to do (I was 9) but I just smiled and stared into her eyes. At the end of the edge walk, she grabbed a little girl and danced with her on stage. I bet if that girl wasn't there, it would have been me up there grrrrr.

Anyway, that was truly my most amazing Stevie moment.
