October: Tusk 30th Anniversary!

(Okay, so this might sound dumb, but what was the actual date of the release of this album?
On here, it says October 12th. On Wiki, it says October 19th.
That would be our first item of business to clear up.)

The 30th anniversary of Tusk is this month!!
We should do something... what, I don't know haha -- listening party, perhaps? Or is that lame? :p
I'm sure we could all use an excuse to listen to Tusk for hours on end! :)

macpai 10-07-2009 08:02 PM

Right on!
Happy anniversary, Tusk! :woohoo::woohoo::blob2::blob2::blob1::blob1::woohoo::woohoo:

What a glorious day the 12th (or 19th) will be. I'm going to not shut up about it all day. People will start to hate me.

YAYYYY TUSK!

SortaSavageLike 10-07-2009 09:13 PM

Which unfortunately was Senior Discount Day at the Record Plant and it took a whole week just to get the first batch of albums on the shelves.

vivfox 10-07-2009 10:02 PM

It was released to radio on the 12th of Roctober and on the 15th to the public.

macpai 10-07-2009 10:13 PM

When was it broadcast on radio so that everyone taped it before not buying it?

belladonnadream 10-08-2009 06:22 AM

Happy Anniversary Tusk!!!!!:]

Really! I will never know to this day what anyone at WB was thinking to have thought that was some great idea!

Warner Bros. Records rush releases Fleetwood Mac's Tusk album weeks ahead of schedule when tracks begin mysteriously popping up on radio stations.

Oh yeah, I remember hearing about how everyone recorded it from the radio and had it before it was released on vinyl.

So the official date for vinyl was the 15th, then?!
I gots to know when to celebrate. I guess I could the 12th, 15th and 19th just for grins. :)

Yeah, it shows how dumb there marketing skills were back than too......with this re-release of Rumours again thats all of a sudden disappeared......they make no sense to me at all nor do Stevie's solo camp either....stupid .......IMO........they really could 'DO' so much......esp with the Web now.....besides us losing as fans....well they lose too......oh well.....:nod:

Rolling Stone, 10-9-09:

We just glanced over at the calendar and realized in just over a week Fleetwood Mac’s masterpiece Tusk will celebrate its 30th anniversary. Sure, Tusk wasn’t (and still isn’t) as successful or acclaimed as its predecessor Rumours, but this perfectly flawed double vinyl has a special place in our hearts, and to celebrate, this week’s Flashback features Stevie Nicks’ “Angel” as it appeared onstage in the 1979 Tusk documentary. As Stephen Holden wrote in his Rolling Stone review of Tusk, “In its fits and starts and restless changes of pace, Tusk inevitably recalls the Beatles’ White Album, the quirky rock jigsaw puzzle that showed the Fab Four at their artiest and most indecisive.”

Glad others appreciate Tusk as much as I do. It really was/is an exceptional album with it's own unique blend of songs. Tusk will always be close to my heart.

Bonus Flashback: The USC Trojan Marching Band, the stars of “Tusk,” perform the title track live — without Mac — on the 1979 year-end episode of Solid Gold, hosted by Dionne Warwick and Glen Campbell. Watch it below:

Happy Anniversary to Tusk -- my favourite album of all time.

holidayroad 10-12-2009 02:33 PM

Tusk is a wonderful album and I've enjoyed it since I received my first cassette of it (Feb. '88). I hope Lindsey has it on his mind today!:woohoo:

macpai 10-12-2009 03:00 PM

Just listened to the vinyl and then the Live album culled from the tour to back it.

As my fiance said, it sounds incredible. As well as relevant, poignant and well, just brilliant.

Bonne anniversaire!

daniellaaarisen 10-12-2009 03:33 PM

What a great day.

Only SOME of the songs from the Live album were "culled from the tour to back it"...a few others were actually recorded in 1977 ("Dreams", "Rhiannon", "Don't Stop") and as early as 1975 ("Don't Let Me Down Again").

It's just that 14 is not usually a marker or milestone. Now, next year, when Time is 15 years old, the big ONE FIVE, you can bet the world will be all over the celebration!

You didn't celebrate YOUR 14th Birthday?? I did....HEAVILY!!! When you're a teenager, EVERY year is a milestone! Once you hit 21, THEN only the "5's & 0's" kick in.

Oh! And I was named after 'Sara' because my parents loved the song so much, so again thank you Tusk for my namesake, you're pretty awesome ;) !!

justcrazylove 10-12-2009 10:38 PM

Happy Birthday to the greatest record Fleetwood Mac ever made! Quirky, creative, lush, beautiful, experimental, funky, soulful and above all else phenomenally played!
:woohoo: I intend to have a listening party tonight backed up with Time!

Long live Tusk

Lala 10-12-2009 10:43 PM

I listened to it today while driving through the mountains!

Happy Birthday Tusk!

Happy birthday, Tusk!!!

I'm excited in a few days I'll finally get a turntable and will be able to listen to my Tusk vinyl that's been sitting on my bookshelf for a little while now. A belated birthday celebration if you will. But really, shouldn't Tusk get the entire month to celebrate?

samthrax 10-12-2009 11:42 PM

And Tusk!Lindsey is kind of my favorite.
