OMG Mirage tour quality
 

I have never bothered to really watch the mirage tour unless I had a copy, but now this is what I am talking about. If anyone has this quality of video I will gladly buy it from you!!! Thank you ledgies, it's good to be back and posting since i've started college!!

There's a couple on ebay that look like the cover of the dvd I recently bought. It was good quality in my opinion. The cover has a pic from Behind the Mask instead of Mirage and is a Brazil pressing.

Wow, that is great quality. I thought my copy was good! Mine was transferred to DVD from the original video, but it is still fairly clear compared to what I've seen on youtube.

no prob, I just wish I had a DVD copy of it, now if someone could maybe convert it for me before it is taken off that would be awesome. I live in the dorm, so its very iffy to download. I would appreciate it sooooo much if anyone had that time, I usually use mediaconverter.org. I also have a DVD burner, but I am not sure what format to change it to for DVD burning. I love you all very much thanks!

I highly doubt that the source of that video was vhs. I'm sure that had to have come from
the laserdisc and then upconverted somehow because i have the original vhs that i bought
back in the day and even my copy don't look as good as this. If anyone knows if this was
taken from a vhs or laserdisc then please post because i'd be really intrested to know.

Mirage in Concert has been released on dvd.

If you go to the actual Youtube page and watch the videos from that DVD, you'll see that he transferred the concert from Laserdisc to DVD. :)

In bootleg form, yes.

So what we need is some laserdisc-to-dvd transfers to become available. (the one currently available seems obviously a vhs-to-dvd transfer)

I bought mine from Amazon this month, it's a brazil pressing. Unsure if it's bootleg, but it's good quality.

I don't think it's a bootleg. They got a license to it, no doubt. Those distributors in Sao Paulo are real companies. Amazon usually doesn't promote bootlegs either.

ITS A BOOTLEG. Amazon isn't selling/promoting anything- they only enabled online merchants to sell these bootlegs.

Why would Warner Brothers/Fleetwood Mac license the Mirage DVD to only be released in Brazil (of all countries), with a transfer that's clearly not from the master source, and with a cover showing a totally different band lineup? Record labels are pretty idiotic, but they're not THAT stupid.

Why doesn't Warner issue it on dvd and then they won't have to worry about it as much? I've been trying to find some things I want (old vhs Tusk/ FMac live era) since 1987 and have not had a lot of luck. It's no wonder fans get desperate enough to buy whatever is out there, even if it's bootleg. I would much rather buy it from Warner and let everyone get the money they are supposed to have.

There were two commercial VHS releases in the United States. The standard release was a black box (with photos), & a hi-fi version was released in a silver box. I've always owned & watched the standard release, & never had the chance to see the hi-fi version.

I always assumed that the hi-fi version had the same picture quality but a hi-fi audio track. Is this true?

Warner Bros doesn't own the rights. I doubt even FM own the rights either. A license doesn't necessarily mean they get master tapes either. A license is really a piece of paper, a contract. Once a license is obtained, they can do what they want.

On another note, I collect blu-rays and there are many films that have gotten licenses in other countries to distribute films, even though they are not available in the USA. They are perfectly legitimate.

They need to release a remastered Mirage with the Mirage tour DVD (hi-quality) with all the missing tracks from the set list. And, if we're lucky: a corresponding live cd with the dvd. This isn't rocket science. If I ran WB. . .

That's right, the Mirage concert was released on RCA Columbia (which is now Sony). I think the only video (meaning VHS and DVD) releases that came out through Warner were the Tusk documentary, The Dance and Live In Boston. So I agree, I don't think Warner owns the rights to it.
I think the Mirage DVD is legitimate too. I saw enough crappy quality but legitimate DVDs released in the UK during my time in the DVD industry. When they were releasing them to be sold at a low price usually these budget companies didn't bother remastering them or investing in a better transfer. I remember a couple of classic films looking as bad as the VHS when they were first released on DVD and they were through long, well-established companies (of course later they re-leased them as re-mastered "Special Editions" for a higher price).

Btw, does anyone know, was the Mirage concert originally filmed for TV or for home video?

I think the band filmed it expecting to sell it on home tape sooner or later. But in those days, lots of rock & pop concerts aired first on cable TV -- Showtime or HBO -- & then were sold in stores. Stevie's 1981 concert & Melissa Manchester's 1981 concert are two examples.
