songs you don't like

Of course, I love Fleetwood Mac but...are there any songs that you just don't like, for whatever reason? Example.. I truly think Lindsey is amazing, but I don't like "Save Me a Place" from Tusk. The words are fine but the way it's sung could've been better. Anyone else have their own examples??

chiliD 09-24-2009 03:09 PM

"When You Say" from Then Play On (Christine's cover isn't much better)
"(I'm A) Roadrunner" from Penguin
"Not That Funny", the Tusk studio version (I DO like the live versions)
"Welcome To The Room...Sara", from TitN
"The Second Time", from Behind The Mask
"No Questions Asked", from the Greatest Hits

Those, for me, are the "worst offenders"...everything else they've done ranges from I "find some redeeming value for" all the way to "love it all the way down to my soul".

EDIT:

OOOPS!! Forgot the one(s) from Say You Will...

"Running Through The Garden"

and, depending on my mood when it comes on,

"Silver Girl".

holidayroad 09-24-2009 03:12 PM

I completely agree about "The Second Time"!But I can't think of a song by Christine that I dislike.

AncientQueen 09-24-2009 03:36 PM

I really disliked:

Silver Girl
Mystified
When I see You Again "What's the matter - baby, baiby"

I know, great song, super guitar, essence of LB, all true but nevertheless, I have always and will always violently hate all and every version of "So Afraid". Can't Lindsey just take a Xanax like everyone else? :D

A cure for insomnia if ever there was one.

jbrownsjr 09-24-2009 04:05 PM

I love When You Say (CP version) and When I See You Again... lol....

Anyway...

I don't like..

My Little Demon... (I love the ledgie... hate the song)
Temporary One.. (boring)
I'm A Road Runner (ewwwwww)
Not That Funny (agree w/ Chili Studio only) live.. great jam...
What's the World Coming To (my God Lindsey how did you ever talk them into opening the album with this clunker?)
PeaceKeeper (studio is bad, live is horrible!!)
Cool Water (i bought the 45" to get and it I was so mad when i heard it)

Villavic 09-24-2009 04:57 PM

No Questions Asked
Paper Doll
Save me
Temporary one
My Little Demon

FMlex 09-24-2009 05:19 PM

(Didn't we have a super long thread about this fairly recently? Oh well, always fun to chat about nonetheless...)

Here's the ones I really, really, really don't like ("hate" is a strong word):

"Sugar Daddy" - Christine - Fleetwood Mac - I just never really understood what was going on here ha

"Don't Stop" - Christine - Rumours - I can guarantee you that I would have liked this when the album first dropped in '77. It's just... well, Bill Clinton kind of ruined it for me. :( When I listen to it, I have to kind of teleport myself back to the '70s (which is hard to do because, well, I wasn't alive back then.)

"That's Enough For Me" - Lindsey - Tusk - Yeah, well I've about had enough of this song, Linds. Repetitive, much?

"Honey Hi" - Tusk - Why, Christine, why??

"Welcome to the Room... Sara" - Stevie - TITN - This song never did anything for me.

I'll refrain from posting my hatees from Say You Will. :)

vivfox 09-24-2009 06:47 PM

Songbird, Oh Diane, Welcome to the Room Sara, Only Over You, Temporary One, Not That Funny, Come

Photobucket

SandyMac 09-24-2009 07:08 PM

Not That Funny (find this annoying for some unknown reason)
Temporary One (just can not get into the groove on this one)
No Questions Asked (never grew on me)

Never really like these, but OMG, really? hate every version of ISA?

Excellent topic. I couldn't let this thread go by without posting. I HATE, HATE, HATE "Welcome to the Room, Sara". As everyone knows, I love Stevie more than anything, but this song is just horrific.

GypsySorcerer 09-25-2009 07:38 AM

"Only Over You" (the only song of Christine's I actually despise)
"One More Night" (boring)
"Not That Funny" (like others have said, I do enjoy it live)
"Welcome to the Room....Sara" (rambling mess)
"When I See You Again" (ditto)

I'm also not too keen on "Illume," though I like some of the lyrics. Oh, and most of Stevie's material on Behind the Mask.

Black_Moon 09-25-2009 08:24 AM

Interesting topic. I don't get all of the hate for "Welcome To The Room... Sara" - I actually love that song.

Christine - "Sugar Daddy", "Warm Ways", "Over My Head". I'm not a fan of her contributions to the White album. At all. I find them boring and I think she wrote better songs during the Buckingham-Nicks era. However, I think she is the most consistently good writer, even though Stevie's songs are my favourite.

Stevie - "Sweet Girl", "Goodbye Baby" (well, I love the early demos), "The Second Time", "Paper Doll".

Lindsey - "Oh Diane", "Empire State", "Can't Go Back", "Eyes Of The World", "Book Of Love". I can't stand his "Mirage" contributions.

TrueFaith77 09-25-2009 08:41 AM

I am bewildered by many of these answers.

Using ChiliD's criteria of being able to find no redeeming value, but applying it only to Rumours-era (or post-Rumours) output:

"No Questions Asked", from the Greatest Hits

vivfox 09-25-2009 09:25 AM

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the song NO QUESTIONS ASKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There, the song just received some lovin'.

I love it too. Love love love it if we're talking in threes.

TrueFaith77 09-25-2009 10:03 AM

Why do you love it? Why don't I love it?

It's got something about it, that just draws me to it. I love the guitar in it for a start, the lyrics are pretty good and there's some great harmonies within it. I prefer it to "As Long As You Follow", even though I like that a lot too.

seekerj 09-25-2009 10:36 AM

Not That Funny
Eyes Of The World
Empire State
Can't Go Back
Oh Diane
Family Man
Everybody Finds Out

I find these songs to be almost self-mocking of the band.

This is one of my favorite songs of all time by any band.

holidayroad 09-25-2009 11:23 AM

I finally figured out what song I don't like by Christine (but it's a solo song) "I'm So Excited". Also a lot of people seem to not like "I'm So Afraid"! Well, it has it's good versions and bad... I kind of like it from FM Live.

That's somewhat of a guilty pleasure for me. I don't think it's good, but it sure is fun.

When I See You Again
Come
Smile At You

I have yet to hear the Mirage album in its entirety.

Pretty much like every song from FM, Rumours, & Tusk - and all the LB/CM contributions to TITN. They could've cut SYW down to about 10 songs and it would've been way better.

markolas 09-25-2009 11:50 AM

And if we're including pre-Rumours lineups...well, pretty much all of Then Play On (except maybe Rattlesnake Shake) and Bare Trees.

I think the only song of hers that I don' t like to listen to is "Mystified". But I only like to listen to Chris for short periods of time. Even her best stuff, I can only take in limited doses. Same goes for Lindsey. The only one I CAN listen to for days on end is Stevie.

Almost all of Then Play On? That's got to be one of the very best FM albums IMO. Do you not even like Oh Well?

SortaSavageLike 09-25-2009 12:53 PM

I wish I actually had something to add, but I'm enjoying this thread just to admire everyone's poor taste in music. ;)

Black_Moon 09-25-2009 01:05 PM

I forgot to add "Family Man" and "Caroline". "Tango in the Night" is my favourite Fleetwood Mac album after "Tusk", but those two songs are diabolocal.

I so agree with everyone of Lindsey's "Mirage Songs...don't like Empire State or Oh Diane..I can tolerate Eyes of the World. Stevie Good Bye Baby and The Second Time...they just drag. Save Me from Christine.

Love Sugar Daddy! Love Temporary One!

Okay, now that I've defended those two tunes, here's the list of FM songs I don't like:

When You Say
All Jeremy's Mr. Wonderful Songs (except for Rockin' and Evening Boogie)
Morning Rain (the album version)
The Ghost
I'm a Road Runner
The City
For Your Love
Coming Home (Bob Welch's version)
Safe Harbor
She's Changing Me
Can't Go Back
Empire State
Straight Back
Oh Diane
When I See You Again
Welcome to the Room Sara
No Questions Asked
Most of the Songs from Behind the Mask (except Save Me, Affairs of the Heart and the title tune)
Paper Doll (truly awful)
All of Dave Mason's songs
These Changing Times
All Over Again
Smile At You
Silver Girl
Come

Hate "Silver Girl" too, and "Peacekeeper". "Peacekeeper" is possibly my most hated Fleetwood Mac song ever.

Straight Back and Smile at You? Wow, I love those songs.
I agree about Paper Doll, I sometimes like it a little, but is so odd lyrically.

Never heard of dislike from fans on ISA, that song just rocks.

Never liked Empire State as well.

At least for the ones that we dislike, there are tons more that we do like and totally rock and make us happy.

This thread is so interesting to me to hear about songs others dislike that I have loved all these years, but just like the songs, they are unique, just like us fans and that is a very good thing. Life on here would be boring if everyone had the same likes and dislikes.

Why "Oh Diane" was released as a single I'll never know. If they were going to choose a Lindsey song for release, I don't get why they didn't choose "Book of Love".

I prefer the FM Live version of Oh Well, to be honest.

There's not a whole lot of blues-rock that I care for, honestly. Then Play On contains too much "noodling" for me. I'm not explaining it terribly well. And Bare Trees is just very unpleasant for me. Especially "Sentimental Lady." I kinda like the Dog & Dustbin album, but I'd honestly rather listen to Muddy Waters or Robert Johnson. I really do feel like I've given the pre-Rumours line-up a fair shake. It just isn't my cup of tea, in general.
