I've just vomited in my own mouth.

1 I Gotta Feeling The Black Eyed Peas
I just downloaded this song last week. I really like it. It's very catchy. Nice to see they can have a hit even without Fergie singing.

2 Down Jay Sean Featuring Lil Wayne
Have not heard this song yet. Probably will eventually because Lil Wayne sings on it. Lil Wayne seems to be on a million songs lately.

3 Party In The U.S.A. Miley Cyrus
Never heard this, prolly never will either.

4 Run This Town Jay-Z, Rihanna & Kanye West
I hear this a lot. I like it sometimes and sometimes I don't.

5 Use Somebody Kings Of Leon
Never heard this song.

6 You Belong With Me Taylor Swift
I think I've heard this and it's fair. But my daddy said stay away from Juliet so what you gonna do?

7 Whatcha Say Jason DeRulo
Never heard of this guy or this song.

8 Obsessed Mariah Carey
Never heard this song.

9 Hotel Room Service Pitbull
Like this song and Pitbull is a hottie.

10 Good Girls Go Bad Cobra Starship Featuring Leighton Meester
Never heard this song. Was this singer on American Idol??

11 She Wolf Shakira
Shakira is cool but I have not heard this song.

12 Knock You Down Keri Hilson Featuring Kanye West & Ne-Yo
I've loved this song from the very first listen. Very catchy chorus.

13 Best I Ever Had Drake
I wasn't too fond of this at first but now I really love it. And thanks to Bryson and the version of it that she gave me, I love it even more.

14 Throw It In The Bag Fabolous Featuring The-Dream
I like this song and it's getting a lot of airplay and I really enjoy the music of Fabolous, but I don't love this song. I want to though, but it's just missing something.

15 Boom Boom Pow The Black Eyed Peas
I have loved this since I first heard it. This might be one of those songs I can hear forever and never get sick of.

16 Battlefield Jordin Sparks
Never heard this song and JS does nothing for me vocally.

17 Break Up Mario Featuring Gucci Mane & Sean Garrett
Never heard this song. Gucci Mane is cool and Mario's music tends to annoy me. But everyone is capable of at least one good song.

18 Paparazzi Lady Gaga
I've only heard this once and I liked it.

19 Be On You Flo Rida Featuring Ne-Yo
Haven't heard this yet. Flo Rida is cool in my book.

20 Big Green Tractor Jason Aldean
Never heard of this singer or this song.

The #1 Black Eyed Peas song isn't too bad. "Use Somebody" is great-- I've seen Kings of Leon live a couple of times and although their most recent album is definitely not their best, the band still continues to put out consistently good music.

I avoid Top 40 radio wherever I can, and only recognize (meaning I know what the song sounds like off the top of my head) a few of these songs. Radio is completely corrupt and wholly unorganic, thanks to douchebag di**lickers like Jeff McClusky.

I can't believe that Kings of Leon have emerged as a chart-topping, top-selling rock band... as someone who has followed their trajectory from the very beginning, I'm not sure what to think of this. I guess this means My Morning Jacket's new album (out next fall) will send them into the stratosphere as well.

I would've thought My Morning Jacket's Evil Urges would do that... but it didn't, so I still have faith...?

I love them, though.

trackaghost 09-20-2009 01:19 PM

The last Kings Of Leon album was very stadium rock, it doesn't surprise me really. I think they're awful now though. Unless MMJ do the same, which I hope to god they won't, I can't imagine them becoming festival headliners like KOL. They seem far too eccentric to be so mainstream imo, even the Jim James song on the recent Monsters Of Folk EP is by far the weirdest one out of the three.

StandbackStevie 09-20-2009 01:38 PM

I never heard anyo of these songs I don't watch MTV anymore in a long time I prefer classic rock stations, alternative rock stations, oldies stations play like 50's,60's,70's and 80's stuff very retro i do love new material from older artists. I really dont care for the newer artists unless its really moving to me but try to avoid the pop, dance stations don't care for it. I prefer to listen to classic stuff from the past or new songs from classic legendary Musicians with Talent and right there own music and have there own distictive style and try not to sound like everyone else.

Black_Moon 09-20-2009 03:31 PM

I love "Battlefield". Kings Of Leon, like Sharon said, have become far too mainstream. And not in a good way mainstream. They've sacrificed the amazing lyrics and creativity of the first three albums for accessibility and kerching. Plus, every time I heard "Sex On Fire"/"Use Somebody" I practically come out in a rash of disgust.

golddustdrummer 09-20-2009 07:46 PM

wow. I've only heard one song out of the whole bunch.
KOL
I don't care if they've sold out. (how evolving musically counts as selling out, I'll never know..)
I get sick of the whole "oh, I liked them before everyone else did"
blah blah "I liked them before they were even a band"

someone tried to pull that crap with me, talking about Fleetwood Mac
"oh, I liked them before they were famous"
you want a medal?

LukeA 09-21-2009 12:25 AM

I didn't mean to suggest that My Morning Jacket would intentionally & philosophically go mainstream in the way that KoL seemingly has (I hate the new album too). I've just always felt that all they needed was a radio-friendly hit, and they'd break through in a pretty moderate way. Even in their current trajectory, they'll be as big as Pearl Jam in a few years, anyways (whatever that means).

markolas 09-21-2009 09:06 AM

Yeah, I haven't really kept up with Top 40 stuff since the first Clinton administration. If an artist or group came out after about 1994, chances are better-than-average that I've never heard of them.

rubytuesday 09-21-2009 09:21 AM

you guys haven't heard Paparazzi?! It's on EVERYWHERE. You only have to walk outside to hear it.

Travis 09-21-2009 09:40 AM

There are not many I like but the ones I do like are ...

You actually crack me up!

I didn't know of them before everyone else did - they were still sort of under the en radar, but I could tell they were emerging. I just don't like their latest album, I like the more raw edges of the previous albums. Now though, they're known in the public generally for just "Only By The Night" and their lesser known songs that are better in my opinion i.e. "Knocked Up", "Milk", "California Waiting" etc. get hidden.

David 09-21-2009 06:02 PM

Is The Devil's Crayon on the hit parade?

How about All Fall Together by Big Country?

 Well, you're right I have been guilty of that in the past, but in KOL's case I really do think they changed their sound just to appeal to a wider audience, which would be alright by me if I liked the new sound but it just doesn't appeal to me much. Like Lucy I do honestly prefer the rawer sound of their first albums.

I prefer the earlier stuff as well!
Holy Roller Novocaine rocks my socks. I liked the "look" they had back then as well. really retro, in your face rock and roll.

but I just think part of the point of making music is to get it heard by as many people as possible.
I don't care what they say, no band ever in history made music because they didn't want people to hear any of it.
and if it takes their new album to get people to listen to their older albums, then more power to them.

I"ve only heard Obsessed, once... and it underwhelmed. I have no interest in what's being played on the radio these days.

bucklind17 09-22-2009 07:05 PM

Of those, I only know and like two: Use Somebody and Battlefield.

I'm a fairly new fan of KOL, started liking them just when Only by the Night came out. That's the album that sold me on them as a band, got me listening and intrigued. That said, my favorite song of theirs is "Milk", my favorite album is Because of the Times, I sing along to the bass line of "Slow Night, So Long" more than any of the words, I haven't stopped listening to "Trani" since I saw them play it live two weeks ago and if I could choose a setlist that is the length of what they play (23 songs), there would be at least four or five of the OTBN songs missing so I could get me some "True Love Way" and "Joe's Head" in there. When a band hits they way they have, there's always that feeling of liking them first or knowing them better and feeling like new fans don't get where they came from. I'm a new fan and even I feel that way simply because I was into those other three albums almost immediately and wish newer fans would give them the time of day. The band obviously wishes the same and vary in their ways of getting that across. But if you listen to all four albums, it's all very gradual to me. You can hear what's coming in each preceding album. It'd be one thing if it went from Youth and Young Manhood to Only By the Night, but it didn't. Either way, I'm really looking forward to what comes next, especially with the hints they're giving to it being like Aha Shake.

And I've just said way more on that than I planned to!
