Let's Talk About....Blue Denim
Let's talk about the raw, nearly RAL-era vocal she pulls off here.
Let's talk about the 'root perm' (gotta say, I kinda like it) Let's talk about this band, which I thought were pretty good Let's talk about how sexy and mysterious she looks, even though she is shrouded in layers of navy blue Think it's about Lindsey? I don't. I think it's about that security guy she was supposedly seeing in the 90's. (Johny Starbuck? Starburst? Something like that..) ...blue denim Watch Stevie Nicks-Blue Denim in Pop | View More Free Videos Online at Veoh.com |
It's catchy and all, but not one of my favorites. Lyrically or musically.
I guess I should say I'm not a huge fan of SA-Stevie. I wish I could get into that album, but for some reason i just can't. :distress: |
I love it...love the song...love the video clip...love the whole thing. I think she was so adorable in this. The only thing I don't like is that you can tell that she wasn't as confident during this time period (except for when she's singing) which is sad. You can see how self conscious she is particularly when she reaches to shake Jay's hand...she holds her shawl in front of herself as though she is hiding behind it. She was shy and unsure of herself when there was really no need to be (coming from someone on the outside looking in, of course.) I think she was absolutely beautiful...she had changed some, but she was still gorgeous, in my opinion. Her voice was amazing...definitely one of my favorite time periods as far as her voice is concerned. The hair...well, at first I was like "WTF did she do???" but I really do love it now. I would do anything to see her in cornrows. She says in the CV commentary that the song is about Lindsey's eyes, which makes sense. I've never heard anything about the security guy she was supposedly with...anyone have any info on him?? Another thing I loved...THE BOOTS!!! If I ever get the chance to raid her closet, I'm taking all of her boots

I love the song but I prefer the Letterman performance to Leno's. I think she looks rather "road weary" at this point and I have to say that IMO she looks the absolute heaviest she has ever looked during this performance. Maybe part of it has to due with the "camera adding 10 lbs" but she looks enormous. OK, 'nuff said. She does seem very inhibited during this interview and during the performance, for that matter but I love the way the audience can't get enough of her.

This is one of my favorite songs of hers. The lyrics are cool and the tune is catchy. She sings it with force and confidence. I too prefer the Letterman performance of this song.

Nothing intricate about the lyrics, but I love the bounce in the song. It's very catchy and hummable. Snatches of many Stevie songs stay in your head, but it's usually because of the notes she hits, the way she sings them. Blue Denim is one of them that just sounds good even when I sing it . I mean, I'd do it for karaoke. I thought it was a great single, for that reason.
Even though she's talking about someone's eyes, you can imagine that their personality matches those eyes. That the person is a mercurial spirit, a man of chameleon temperament. Having his eyes change with the wind and the sun, makes him his own force of nature, with a rather arbitrary mood. That's why understanding him was not an easy thing to do. And it was hard understanding her too, suggesting that her mood was just as changeable. When it came out, she said the song was about someone she met briefly. I can believe that. To me that just makes it all the more charming on the CV commentary when she says it must be about him, because she doesn't know anyone else with eyes like that. Even if it clearly wasn't about him then, today he seems to be all she can remember and that idea works for me! Still, the: I knew him another way. I knew him another day. In some ways he'd forgotten me. In many ways he got to me. I turned away so he couldn't see. I turned away it could never be. I never thought he could walk away. But I lost him again yesterday. This part led people to believe it was about Lindsey, after the inaugural. Also like the close, "If I find the answer, I promise I'll come back to get you." So, the rest of the song suggests it's a lost love, but at the very end, there's a glimmer of hope. Maybe it's not permanently lost after all. Great "makes you dance around" song. Michele |

Stevie mentions on her audio commentary from Crystal Visions that this song is about Lindsey because he is the only person she knows with those blue denim eyes.
Someone might have said that above, but I can't remember. |

I remember reading somewhere that it was totally about Lindsey and was written after the inauguration performance. She said in some interview. I'll try to find it. |
In the CV commentary though, it didn't sound like she was too sure what the song was about. It reminded me of the interview she did with Courtney Love, where after Courtney is desperately trying to deconstruct GDW with Stevie, and Stevie finally says "you know what? I'm not sure what GDW is exactly about. I mean, it can't all be about cocaine." and a disappointed Courtney says "right, you're deeper than that."

Good Song, but I hate what she wore here and in the video, i think she wore the same outfit everytime! Doesn't go well with her I don't think. I'm loving the boots.

I think Blue Denim is a solid song. The chord progression is really simple, same as Rhiannon and songs like that. But as many of you know, Street Angel as an album is one of my faves because it was the first solo new materials work that I ever got!!

Regarding the outfit, I am not a fan of the Street Angel dresses. I'm pretty sure this was before she re-enlisted the talents of Margi Kent. Anyone know who designed the overly fringed numbers she wore on the SA tour? I always thought that maybe she was trying to appear thinner so she did away with the layered chiffon skirts. |
