So, which is it?
For me, hands down it is Out of the Cradle. Just got it for my birthday and I really love every song. It is such a solid album! |

I saw that the thread was started in September of 2008, and went off of that. Early August is too soon, so if you all feel the need to close the thread- feel free. Sorry about the posting though. Just got Out of the Cradle, and am TOTALLY loving it!!!:blob2: |
Out Of The Cradle for me as well......its his best to me anyway...IMO :D:shrug:

While each Lindsey album offers completely different things, and I think Out Of The Cradle without a doubt the most powerful emotionally, I picked Gift Of Screws. It's just the perfect rock/pop album. Every song is worth it's weight in gold, and there's nothing on there that shouldn't be. The album is paced perfectly, and has the right mix of songs to keep it flowing, and it doesn't bog down. There are faster and slower paced songs, experimental and familiar sounds, but they just all fit together. I don't know, I guess I feel that Gift Of Screws is the album that took him nearly 30 years of being in the business to craft. Unlike some artists, Lindsey grows and gets better at his craft. And I truly think Gift is proof that he has whittled his talent and artistic statement to a fine point. There's just a certain wisdom to it. It's like after 35 years of trying, he finally hit his target as perfectly and cleanly as he'd always been trying. It's sort of a culmination of everything he's done: the experimentation of Tusk and Go Insane; the beauty of Fleetwood Mac, Rumours, and Out Of The Cradle; the independent nature of Law And Order; the pop sensibility of Mirage and to a greater degree, Tango. I think with Gift Of Screws, he finally figured out that all those virtues indeed were NOT mutually exclusive, that they could all coincide on one album, without negating each other, or being overbearing. I really hate that even his diehard fans haven't seen all these things, because I feel without a doubt that Gift Of Screws is the textbook definition of Lindsey's career and talent.

See, it's hard for me to even look at Lindsey's music in terms of separate albums. I love it so much that I'm always referring to the whole body of work, however...
I did vote Out of the Cradle because that was the album that won me and quite frankly one of the greatest albums I have ever heard. Ever. So, yeah, after that one I never approached the other albums in terms of comparing. I just dove in and loved almost everything I heard- and by "almost" I am referring mainly to September Song and Not Too Late aka "two songs I hate by Lindsey Buckingham." But Gift of Screws is incredible. I fell in love with it immediately. And maybe if I had heard it first instead of OotC it could have been my favorite. I just hope people haven't lost the love for Under the Skin though. I think it's a gorgeous album and I can't get enough of Show You How, Castaway Dreams, DOR, SGCYM, etc. I think it's one of his most poetic albums. ***sigh*** I really, really, reeeaaalllly want more Lindsey solo music. Seriously. He needs to release, like, 4 more solo albums immediately. |

I'm sorry that UTS is shortchanged. I liked it very much at the time. But, as I've said before, it's good the album didn't come out after GOS, because then I would have been disappointed in it. Chronologically, it fell in the right (write) place for me to appreciate it immensely for awhile, even if it was soon to be overshadowed.
And as far as it being poetic, I have to say that it was very helpful in showing us Lindsey's ability as a lyricist. Well, I'm not saying that I ever thought he lacked lyrically. But Miranda is a poem which led us to UTS, most of which is a poem. So, I'm glad we saw that aspect of him steepen and we could fully appreciate his wordcraft, before we got, um, Did You Miss Me:lol:. Michele |
Got to be GOS because it's got the strongest songs and performances.
I just wish I had also bought that vinyl version that got the LP master on a CD as a bonus, because the CD master is just way too loud and too heavy on the bass. Here's hoping that Lindsey gets back with his band soon for the recording of the next album while he's still hot from the FM tour. |
"Out of the Cradle" without a shadow of a doubt. That album should have been his breakthrough as a solo artist within the general public. It's absolutely sublime, and it's like a jigsaw puzzle in which all of the pieces slot together to create a cohesive picture of where Lindsey was at in that point of his life. I also think it was the album where Lindsey recognised lyrical content is just as, if not more important than making an album full of trickery but lacking substance.

UtS- again/still

..?
Is Lindsey's solo career actually worth having a forum dedicated to it..? I think not.. No offense, but it was kind of depressing. In that it was horrid.
|
You're absolutely right! Lindsey's solo career is so awful that it's critically acclaimed, so we should certainly get rid of this forum. In fact maybe we should have two Stevie forums! Awesome first post!

Ok, back OT everyone. So, I decided just yesterday that it's probably true that Out of the Cradle and Gift of Screws are tied in terms of sheer greatness, but the former is more cohesive and the latter an incredible mix of all his different styles. I am not entirely shocked at the other album's ratings, as I feel that every one of them deserves accolades but the two I mentioned are simply the more accessible. I adore Go Insane and Under the Skin, though. I really could take those two albums on a trip and enjoy them both for what they are, but I'm really not sure I can say that about Law and Order. For this week, my top 10 LB solo songs: 1. Underground 2. Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind 3. Down On Rodeo 4. Did You Miss Me? 5. Surrender the Rain 6. D.W. Suite 7. It Was I 8. Trouble (live) 9. Slow Dancing 10. Shut Us Down |

And Black_Moon, I definitely agree with you that OOTC should have been Lindsey's breakthrough album. It's a damn shame more ears haven't heard it. But at the same time, I do enjoy knowing I have a hidden treasure. I always think when I put the album on, that I might be the only person in the whole world listening to it at that exact moment. Just think of it this way. Rumours was FM's big breakthrough album, but I pretty much never play it anymore. The songs are just worn out and cliche to me now (even though they're still solid gold). I kind of like that OOTC remains private and special. A private treat for true music connoisseurs. |

But I'll try to be more open-minded I guess. As long as there are some valid arguments. |

http://ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/forumdisplay.php?f=8 It's obviously all a case of supply and demand. There wasn't a Christine forum before but people wanted one. As great as Rick and Bob and even Bob Brunning are, I doubt the amount of threads dedicated to them amounts to enough to warrant a separate forum for each, but if there's a sudden surge in their popularity it could still happen. I'd say the Lindsey forum is one of the four most active forums on the board, which justifies its existence. Enchantedxgypsy just doesn't think he deserves one because he/she personally doesn't like his solo work, which is a pretty silly reason not to have a Lindsey forum I'd say. |

Also, could possibly be a troll. Not just like the message board kind, necessarily. Not to jump on the bandwagon on anything... |
