Your favorite BATMAN
I'm going to post these results on another forum I frequent (hopefully to prove a point)...
Okay, so who makes the best Batman/Bruce Wayne? |
Without a doubt............ADAM WEST.
No other Batman ever pulled a sardine out of his utility belt. Baile number two. Toughest Batman. Keaton three. Way too small. Kilmer four. He can't be Batman, he's Doc Holiday. Clooney worst ever Batman. |
I knew some folks would pick Adam West, but it still hurts my testicles when I hear it. ;) |

I do love the two more recent Batman movies (apart from Katie Holmes...aaargghhh!) but in The Dark Knight, which I think is better, Christian Bale's Batman voice really, really gets annoying! Gotta loooooove Maggie Gyllenhall though! demon, are you aware of the following book: http://www.amazon.com/Batman-Unmaske...0769652&sr=8-1 It's this guys phD thesis, bits of it are underdeveloped but it's an interesting read. There are better ones out there but this is the only one I own. If you're a comic book/movies fan where do you stand on Superman? He was the one for me growing up and I've never grown out of it! I'll fight long and hard for Superman Returns and the early episodes of Lois and Clark to get their due respect, haha! |

I enjoyed the freshness of Superman Returns...and the fact that they incorporated the soundtrack to the original films into it. I also like that the storyline was taking place several years after the events of Superman II. But, I did not like the portrayal of Superman by brandon routh. Nice guy... good actor in other movies...Just not Superman to me. Kevin Spacey didn't quite get Lex Luthor right either. I think this is the fault of the material and not really the actors though. And being even more picky... I don't like what they did to the suit. especially the "S' Shield. Totally pointless. If you like Superman, I suggest the Dick Donner cut of Superman II (its out on bluRay now) and its amazing. I always loved Superman II anyway, but this new cut makes it even better. |

Superman II was always my favourite too, I didn't really start to love the first one until I was afew years older because as a kind you're just waiting for Superman to appear and it takes an hour for that to happen in the first move. An excellent, important hour but that's a long time when you're a kid. Superman III will always have a special place in my heart. Yes, Richard Pryor takes over the film and the direction is questionable and the tone too slapstick but the fight in the scrapyard is AWESOME. Vera getting sucked into the computer still freaks me out too. I refuse to discuss Superman IV: The Death Of The Franchise. I have never been more excited about a film's release than Superman Returns and I was suked in from the minute those brilliant credits started. Such an homage to the first film. Too much so for some people and that's why it came in for a bit of criticism. There's so much in the film for fans ("you really shouldn't smoke" really made me smile) and yes, the score is wonderful. John Ottman did an incredible job at keeping the old musical cues and leitmotifs in while still making it sound original enough. I thought Kevin Spacey was GREAT! Sinister and funny in equal measure, just how I've always thought Lex should be. He was the best thing about the film. I thought Brandon Routh was really good actually, although Kate Bosworth wasn't great. Then again, I've never thought Lois was that great a character, always a little annoying. There has to be a sequel. Bryan Singer has said on several ocassions that he'll go all "Wrath of Khan" on it and that there will be a lot more action from the word go. In this way it will make the 2 films very similar to the original two with Christopher Reeve. That seemed to be the major sticking point with critics and the audience, the tone of the film is not your typical super hero action movie. It's a romance about the wronged woman and about what happens when we discover that Superman has flaws: ie. how could he leave? He's not supposed to get lonely, he's Superman. The suit never bothered me at all, although I know a few people who were pissed off by it. I was just tooexcited to see him back on the big screen!! I want General Zod for the next villain. Oh dear, my fanboy geekdom may have taken over here... |

I agree with you about the junkyard fight in Superman 3... even though I don't like that movie on the whole. |
I don't think it's about topping other performances. Terence Stamp is too good as Zod to be bettered - deliciously evil! Same goes for Hackman's Luther. It is the one...but I still appreciate what Spacey did with it and hopfully they'll get someone who can play Zod well, if differently.

I had to pick Michael Keaton...he was the first Batman I remember. lol
Batman Returns! Danny DeVito scared the sh!t out of me in that movie. |
Okay but what is the best Batman MOVIE?
I would definitely vote for "The Dark Knight" - - - There's SO many good lines in that movie!!! |
Funny that Keaton seems to be winning here. I'm running the same "poll" on another forum I frequent and Bale is winning by a large margin. Different strokes for different folks eh?
And which one of you jokers picked Clooney? ;) |
Quote:
Those who've been watching these movies since the beginning can look past the production values and evaluate the performances, where Keaton clearly shines. |
Quote:
That said, what they did with Zod was better! Having Zod posess Lex Luthor, genius. |

I also prefer Batman Returns to Batman. George Clooney as best Batman..haha! I thought someone would... |

It's unfortunate that Superman doesnt have a better... gallery of rogues? ;) Quote:

Batman Returns kicks ass, and not just cos of Michelle Pfeffer, although that is a puuurrrrfect bonus...sorry, couldn't resist! |

Then there's Michelle in The Fabulous Baker Boys on that piano, possibly the sexiest thing in cinema... |
Quote:
And oh... Michelle Pfeiffer, I think, is still sexy enough to pull off playing Catwoman even now. |

I'm also not keen on Scarecrow as a villain in Batman Begins, bit of a strange choice, although maybe they did it so that a higely well known villain wouldn't overshadow what they were trying to do with the franchise? The groundwork had tobe liad before they brought in The Joker. |
Yeah I will agree with the Catwoman/Penguin relationship comment. They did manage to make it work. I just think there's just more room for deserved character development that way to keep the films to 1 baddie.
I think Batman Forever would've worked better with just The Riddler. I love Tommy lee Jones, but his "Two-Face" just didn't work. I think he's not to blame here in this instance though... I think also they made a conscious effort to not overshadow Batman like Nicholson did in the 1st film, but in introducing two villains they manage to still do that. I think using the Scarecrow worked in Batman Begins, as well as Ra's Al Ghul. They were two of Batman's "less wacky" vilains and make it more believable... which works well with Nolan's vision of the "believable" Batman. Saying that though, I still think Nolan's version is missing something. There's an absurdity thats missing... that comical element. Batman to a certain degree is about suspension of disbelief, not trying to make him "really real." OH well. |

Now it's ironic to see how Keaton is finally the favorite, cause I remember when they released Batman, many people said Oh, but that Batman, nooo, or this movie should be called The Joker, not Batman. The point was that Keaton wasn't bad, but Nicholson was great as the Joker. He was the best Joker, until Heath appeared. |
Quote:
Unless you count Mark Hamill (also excellent). I think Nicholson was a better Joker in the sense that he also got closer to the way I've pictured the character in my mind. I'm not saying Ledger wasn't great... he WAS... but his Joker was more sadistic than Nicholson's. Neither better, nor worse in my opinion...just different. |

Yeah, because every time I hear someone's schizophrenic, I immediately think that they spend their spare time prancing about in bad makeup and an outdated nurse outfit, blowing up hospitals. “We need to make it clear to directors and producers that they can still break box office records without wrecking lives.” Wasn't wrecking that IMAX camera enough for you, Nolan? Now you gotta wreck LIVES with your comic book movies, too? Jeez! |

The boyfriend & I especially laughed at this part: "The incorrect stereotype in both cases, to a lesser and greater extent, is that schizophrenics have multiple personality disorder, and that that second personality is always evil." Like, GOD, why can't the other half of Two-Face's face be NICE, TOO? |

I really liked Micheal Keaton in the first 2 Batman movies.....I totally recall all the hoopla around that movie in the 80's......It was such a big deal.....someone else other than Adam West....and no Robin in the movie either.....total media all over it.......Of course JNicholson....as the Joker....he was awesome in it.....and Prince all over the soundtrack......I recall t-shirts at the store for it too....just with the bat logo on it.....didn't buy one though.....did think about it though......I guess for tv camp sake it'd be Adam West......but it was so cartoonish in the late 60's for its time period that is...when I first watched it was in the 70's....reruns.....but campy is ok every now & than.....I thought MK brought the best parts of BM esp his torrment about being 2 different people so to speak....I did watch the one with GC.....he was ok....can't stand VK.....and I haven't seen any of the current one's.....but it'll always be MK to me....he was the best one.......IMO anyway....

Just bringing it back for those that haven't voted... ;)
|
The only Batman I've ever seen beginning to end was the '89 one, and I liked it as a kid. I've always liked most anything Tim Burton has directed... he's great at fantasy atmospheres. So Michael Keaton has to be my fav Batman... because he's the only one I could vaguely tolerate (I'm not into superhero stuff at ALL).
For those who are big fans of the '89 Batman, the house of the screenwriter who wrote that movie, along with Edward Scissorhands and Beetlejuice house is for sale near me. Looks like a neat place... I can see how he might have been inspired by his surroundings: http://www.trulia.com/property/10513...Hills-TX-78746 |
Interesting! Thanks for the link Louie

I'm with Louie, "superhero" stuff, just doesn't do it for me......:sorry: I've always sucked, at any kind of "fantasy life" stuff.....just not my thing.... |
For me it's great to see "superhero" movies coming to the forefront over the last 20 years. I grew up reading comic books... It was a great part of my childhood and the fun of being a kid. The reason I resurrected the thread was because I post on another forum where the voting seems... un-even... so I wanted to use this one as an example. Kudos to whoever voted for Keaton. ;)

Christian Bale's voice as Batman is really annoying.
|
I had to pick Michael Keaton. To me, he's the Batman on the big screen, plain and simple. Same goes for Jack Nicholson as the Joker (sorry, but Heath Ledger's Joker creeped me out more than anything else and besides, Jack's Joker had everything I expected the character to be)
|
Christian Bale, but only because The Dark Knight is such an amazing movie. Michael Keaton comes in second for me, because him, Kim, and Jack made a great combo.
