Stevie's first musical crush
July 15, 2009
Crosby, Stills and Nash Not only did Fleetwood Mac frontwoman Stevie Nicks dish to me in our July issue about the record that changed her life, Joni Mitchell’s Court and Spark, in the interview she also revealed her first music crush: Crosby, Stills and Nash. “If you can’t fall in love with those three guys, you can’t fall in love,” she said. Since then, I’ve been obsessed with CSN’s 1969 self-titled debut—not only because their folky tunes make me want to revisit denim-on-denim (see Graham Nash on the album cover, far left), but their groovy harmonies (download “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes”) eerily remind me of Fleet Foxes, one of my favorite modern-day bands. For CSN newbies like me, Crosby, Stills and Nash will be available in vinyl from Rhino this fall. Something tells me Stevie’s still got her original copy. —Julie Vadnal, Editorial Assistant http://fashion.elle.com/blog/2009/07...and-nash-.html |

"....and if you can't be with the one you love, honey, love the one you're with...." Oh yeah, I think it's fair to say that Stevie has certainly lived by those words a time or two....or three....or four..........

you understand now why you came this way - And the truth you might be runnin' from is SO small - But it's as big as the promise - the promise of the coming day!" Infinite amount of kudos to them for that. Times infinity. |
“If you can’t fall in love with those three guys, you can’t fall in love"
Sounds to me that she liked all three! :D Well, what's good enough for Joni I say. |

Not lately, of course. I'm not that unhinged. But when he looked like this, yes. http://xs841.xs.to/xs841/09294/1544.jpg http://xs541.xs.to/xs541/09294/f751.jpg |

I agree with Lisa, Crosby wasn't always a pudgy, jailbird. Plus he inspired Dennis Hopper's character in Easy Rider. That's pretty damn cool. And maybe it's just me, I prefer the idea of her crushing on Crosby than getting down and dirty with Dave Stewart or Waddy Watchel :distress:

Back then I wouldn't say no to any of them. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1.../CSN-photo.jpg That said, at the Ahmet Ertegun tribute concert, Stevie looked happier cozying up to Neil Young. |

All I know is that even pudgy, jailbird, whacked-out-of-his-mind-on-coke David Crosby is more attractive to me than Waddy in his best Sunday suit with his most Frizz-Eased hair. Quote:

surely that would turn your crank, right sharon? Quote:
and i say that as a doctor*. *full disclosure: a "doctor of awesome" is not actually a real doctor. |

Thanks! That's the photo I was talking about. I remember the second one with Stills too. They actually look pretty good together there. Does anyone know what concert that's from? David? |
^ I don't care if you are a med school graduate, you guys need to stop talking about my boyfriend.

It looks like Joan Baez to Stevie's right. |

"The Great, Great Love of my life for about two years was joe walsh". "There was nothing more important than Joe Walsh, Not my music, not my songs, not anything".Stevie says. But cocaine ruined the romance."We had to break up or we though we'd die. It took me years to get over it. It's very sad, but at least we survived." |

I'm confused. How has a conversation about a musical crush turned into one about Stevie's great loves?
Back to the topic, Stevie was talking about Buffalo Springfield's song Rock And Roll Woman in the Logo Online interviews and how it inspired her in the early days. And, of course, that's a Stephen Stills song. It's interesting. Before this year Stevie has never talked much about her influences, bar Janis, but in recent months we've seen quotes about Janis, Joni and Crosby, Stills And Nash. I can hear all of those in her early work. Maybe she's getting nostalgic in her old age. |

And then there is the admiration for Hendrix's "Little Wing" she expressed in 1990 in Japan, as well as the '60s vocal groups like the Ronettes & the Supremes, which is probably how she decided she wanted to front her solo stage with dancing backup vocalists, all singing planned harmony arrangements. |
