American Idol Allison

Found a bit of gossip on an Idol forum today, don't know how reliable it is, but it sounds interesting.

here you go..."I have an old college classmate (and, yeah we had a band!) that lives in LA. Jamie's an engineer, and mixes soundtracks at Paramount Recording in Burbank. We've tried to stay in touch to some extent, and he calls whenever he travels out my way (Vegas), and usually stays at the house. Anyway, he called thursday night and we were discussing Allison. He told me he had heard, and was pretty confident of the source, that Lindsey Buckingham is, or has written for Allison. Jamie said he hasn't seen her at his studio (He said they also have one in Hollywood), but he's heard her name brought up on more than one occassion."

All the posters afterwards sounded very keen about the info as they seem to take Lindsey's workmanship very seriously, a couple mentioned Stevies success with Linds as well, as being a good sign...so hey, who knows, but I do think, Allison certainly has the talent to go far and if Linsday can recognise that, then who are we to argue.

If , he's interested in working with her..how the heck is he going to improve on this one???

Fantastic and she's only 17 remember.

TrueFaith77 07-16-2009 12:21 PM

I really hope this is just a rumour.

iamnotafraid 07-16-2009 07:14 PM

If Allison is the girl with the Pink/Red hair, I'd be curious to what she could do with a Buckingham song. I thought her voice was pretty good.

tuigirl 07-17-2009 05:24 AM

Yes, she's the one! I can't really see how he'd fit into her style really, or she into his...I can see him relating to her raw natural talent though and her enthusiasm on stage.Hmmm..just have to wait and see what happens, I guess, if anything.

TrueFaith77 07-17-2009 08:05 AM

Yeah I didn't mean to sound so negative. I just think that there a lot of brilliant artists with whom Lindsey should work (Iris DeMent!). . . to me, Allison is just mediocre, but, heck, if it produces a good song, that can't do no harm.

tuigirl 07-18-2009 03:41 AM

There is always a case for him to work behind the scenes and spread a bit of his knowledge about, to the younger generation. Maybe, Allison could a stepping stone for that...watch this space...ooh, and she does have that crazy "Buckinghamishness" about her :D

Dodfather 07-18-2009 05:58 AM

Allison has an AMAZING voice and if she did a Lindsey song, or he produced some tracks for her album or whetever, I'd be really excited to hear it!

well she's a talented performer, but can she write? That's what makes someone a great musician. I hope she can and then record one lindseysong and put it on her debut-album. i hope -for him- that that will be the single: this girl can get popular....

Yeah, I agree. That said, it's also a talent to be a good and unique interpreter of songs but I don't see she offers anything new to the track posted. Good singers are a dime a dozen really.

tuigirl 07-18-2009 02:58 PM

Apparantly, she is a songwriter, so thats in her favour! As for the track posted, I like her style on it, she's crazy enough to be interesting and the fact she's only 17, leaves plenty of time to iron out any glitches and improve. Some have said her dancing is too spazzy, but I kinda like it, it's different and she's a breath of fresh air, when you think how many "Mileys and Britneys" there are out there, right now.Maybe Linds could drop us a hint, next time he does an interview.....

Sorry but I have to disagree with this. The music world has been full of great musicians who didn't write. I consider a great singer a great musician because the voice is an instrument like any other.

Karen Carpenter (great underrated drummer as well as having one of the best voices there has ever been) Dusty Springfield, Frank Sinatra (yes, I know everyone always says him), all the older singers like Ella Fitzgerald etc were musicians of real merit but they didn't write. What about great session musicians too who don't write? Don't they count?

Of course they are all good instrumentalists or great performers or great personalities. What I meant is that at 17 you can copy an artist fantastic but that doesn't make you a great musician yet. If she has sang an own song I'd be able to judge better if she's gonna make it or not as an artist. Studiomusicians are great but 99% of the time backgroundartists. Simply because they don't like the spotlights.

And by the way, You name some very old artists that made it in a time that people didn't write their own material per se at all. It's 2009 now, and basicly, you make it if you are multitalented and stand on your own, or you get milked by others due to a format that's put on you by massproducers.

And for this girl, I can't say if she's got the talent to fit in the first category.

There's no doubting that she's a better singer than, say, me. However, she doesn't have IT. I watched all of last season of American Idol -- and there wasn't one performance that made me think she had a special or interesting or revealing way of interpreting a song. She couldn't hold my attention or offer variety within weeks of 1-and-a-half minute performances of songs that I already know. It's too bad. She has a recognizable tone to her voice that could make her stand out. She's the kind of performer that the judges would say would be instantly reocognizable if her song came on the radio... but I'd change the channel. She is not a compelling singer. Also, the entire season, she never really connected to the audience. She skated through because, each week, she was far from the worst.

Then again, I don't think Idol has hosted more than a handful of interesting performers in its 7 or 8 years. . .

tuigirl 07-23-2009 04:13 PM

ok, so basically your'e saying she's not ur cup of tea. This young girl basically isn't mine either, BUT, I look at her as a whole and look at whats out there right now as a whole ( ur Mileys, Ashlee someone and ur other synthetic wonders) and I think maybe sh'es a breath of fresh air. What other "rocker type " girls have you got? Avril? where's she, haven't seen her in ages.I'm thinking if given half a chance and a decent team behind her, then Allison stands a good chance of doing something reasonable. she has a lot going for her..she plays guitar, has alot of stage presence (take a peek at some of the Idol tour footage on youtube right now) has a crazy zany teenage personality that is about as far removed from any manufactured "star" out there at the moment and a sort of reminisant Janis Jopliness about her voice which makes her uniquely different.Plus she's only 17 and apparantly a bit of a song writer. Over the years we seem to have lost those individual souls like ur Freddie Mercurys/David Bowies and Marc Bolans and ended up in a "factory made" state of Britneys, Christinas and various hip hoppers, all sounding/looking the same. Allison (and Adam Lambert) could do well to bring back the FUN in music, which is why they're proving pretty popular on the road right now. I wish them both, all the best, in whatevers coming, and hope that Idol has finally produced something decent (apart from Kelly Clarkson of course, who's done alright) for the future.
Btw it's nice to see a bit of interesting discussion on Lindseys board, it tends to just bumble along sometimes.....

You got that right, this place (Lindsey's) is a real deadzone.
Maybe someone should contact Verizon?

Who or what is Verizon? ( haven't been keeping up with things I'm afraid, I've defected over onto another forum lately...)

tuigirl 07-24-2009 02:37 AM

oooh, and I forgot to mention in my above "what Allison has going for her" rant, that she also has the "machine" that IS American Idol behind her pushing her in whatever direction, giving her contacts etc, plus not to mention exposure to some 20, 000 people, every other night for the next 6 weeks., and so far, she seems to be delivering, so she must have something there in the first place to make it work. Meh, other than that wait and see what happens.

No. That's not what I'm saying at all. I'm saying she's not anyone's cup of tea -- beyond the weird sentimental attachments some people make with contestants on American Idol. I'm saying I, with my limited knowledge of music, could name 1000 female vocalists who have more star quality and command of the art of singing than Allison (and, thus, would be preferable collaborators with Lindsey Buckingham) -- and probably more than half of those would not be my "cup of tea," so that has nothing to do with it. In fact, Allison is my "cup of tea" in that I like that kind of thing, but she's just a very weak practioner of a style I like. I'm on a Fleetwood Mac board after all so obviously I can appreciate a rocker chick. Sheesh. . . "cup of tea". . . I'm gonna be bothered all day trying to figure out how you got THAT out of my post.
