What songs would you like Stevie to cover?
Hi everyone,
I'm listening to Jackson Browne right now and for the first time ever (I don't know why because I've heard this song so often) I have the idea that Stevie could possibly cover one of his songs quite well... Late For The Sky??? What do you think? Now before you all go crazy and say NOOOOOOO I know that it's one of Jackson's main songs, and I love it, so nobody is more surprised than me to have this pop into my head! Maybe I'm a bit hungover or something, who knows...? So what do you think? While going down this road, what other songs do you think she could pull off? Lets see just how random our thoughts are! Haha... Let the debate begin... |
none. She's covered enough songs. I want new Stevie songs damn it!

I'd love her to do more covers...some of my favorite Stevie songs are her cover versions. I'd love to hear her tackle "Disturbia" by Rihanna.
|
I would love to hear Stevie and Lindsey do Born to be Wild!! A tribute to the Fritz days!
|
No mas with the covers.
|
It's a worship song
I'd like to hear her cover "Shout to the Lord", I think she could do a great job, I love that song!

She covered enough songs in the last few years. It's time for some original material.

And Lindsey could do some Eminem, since he's a fan. :woohoo: |
i would love to hear her do a version of "these dreams" by heart..i had heard somewhere that song was offered to her and she turned it down...it made me think of how it COULD have been had she not...although heart does a great job...love the lyrics...melody, etc

"She felt it wasn't right for her. You can tell what they were going for, with that as a Stevie song, especially lyrically. It's very mysterious and misty. It probably would have been "expected" if she'd done it. Although musically, it is nothing like anything Stevie's ever done." I think Ann is spot on with those comments. However, if Stevie ever did a cover album, I hope it would be in another genere. Her outstanding performance of "At Last" shows she could excel with Etta James' covers and others of that ilk. |

I think she should do a studio version of Face the Promise, or at least release a recording of one of the live performances she did.

This sounds like it could be a Stevie song. I just discovered this today. It's by the Poppy Family and it was written by Terry Jacks, the guy who wrote Seasons In the Sun.
the poppy family - you took my moonlight away.mp3 http://www.sendspace.com/file/ekyo74 Tell me what you think? |
I would like to see Stevie do some blues numbers, even fronting the MFBB belting out some blues. With a little bit of work I think she could do it very well...

I also agree with those who want NEW Stevie material, but it's nice to nod your head to those great songwriters who've gone before, too. This might seem like kind of a stretch, but I'd love to see Stevie dig deep for Billie Holiday's God Bless The Child -- one of the best songs ever written, IMHO. Lady 'Day was one of the greatest talents to ever caress a microphone. Dianna Ross played Billie in a movie (I think it was called "Lady Sings The Blues?"). Here's Dianna singing that wonderful, wonderful song at a concert honoring Lady 'Day: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8NvYULJrhbc Although Dianna sings it in an upper range, and Stevie would do it in a lower range, they both have (forgive me) a nasally quality that suits the song well. And maybe Stevie would wear a dress like the one Diana's wearing here....;) |

What did Stevie wear in her hair for Walden Woods? I once posted a totally fabricated quote on the Ledge & attributed it to Stevie: "Billie Holiday is my idol, so I'm going to emulate her for my performance at the Walden Woods benefit, right down to that piece of flora in her hair & that slight hitch in her gitalong." |
This thread has some of Savage's pics:
http://ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/showthread.php?t=40870 I'm not as good as I should be with flora identification either, but this is a gardenia, isn't it? (And I sure hope we don't see any fauna in her hair....) I found Stevie's version of 'At Last' from the Walden Woods benefit, and I keep playing it over and over again. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTbkWyPFwyU Nothing airy and ethereal here -- this is belted straight from the gut, and it's all muscle! I love it. Granted this was 11 years ago, but I'd love to see if she still has enough voice to do more of this. |
My anwser is no,Stevie has alot of demos she has not released yet.but I would love to see her do some covers of some country songs or a duet with an country artist.

"The Times Are Changing"-Bob Dylan
"Alive"-Pearl Jam "To Make You Feel My Love"-Garth Brooks (Originally written by Bob Dylan) Beautiful song. I thing she would do great at it. "Sea Of Love"-Robert Plant and The Honeydippers |

"Bette Davis Eyes" by Kim Carnes
Would be perfect song for Stevie, kim and stevie have the same vocal style. Stevie would do an awesome version I am sure. "Take The L " ,"Only The Lonely" or "Suddenly Last Summer" by The Motels I love this group and I think Stevie would kick ass on either of These Songs. |

Back when Stevie had a voice with some pliability & some vibrato, I wanted her to sing "What About Me" by Moving Pictures.
I also wanted her to drop "I Need to Know" & substitute another Petty number called "What Are You Doing In My Life?" But that girl never listens to me! |

Another song I think she might do a fabulous job with -- a beautiful old song by that 'other' Stevie -- Stevie Wonder's All In Love Is Fair. It's a powerful, sad song. Shippers would love it -- a tragic lament of that One Great Failed Love....

I'd really love to see her do an album of classic blues/jazz standards. I think she'd do a great job on those based on the fine job she did with At Last.
