Stevie fell on stage?
Someone just told me that a while back, not on this tour, but maybe her solo tour, that she fell on stage? Is this true, guys? Did our lil Stevie girl fall??? What happened? Is there video, did she get hurt?
|
OH YES I REMEMBER THIS!! I believe it was during her solo tour...one of them I dont remember. There are sadly no videos. I dont have the details sorry.
|
Some say she fell on the 1983 tour, & others say it was the 1986 tour.
I don't think anyone has conclusively identified a venue or date. |

Didnt she fall or trip during her Crystal Visions shows?!
|
Yeah yeah, I heard she "fell" during the Crystal Visions show. Not OFF the stage, but that she fell onstage. I've been trying to find out, maybe it was in Casino Rama or something weird like that, where ever that is. Or...I don't know. Poor Stevie...I wonder why she fell?

I think it was in Orillia, Ont. at a 2007 show, and apparently she fell during a RAL show too.
|
Did anyone here actually see Stevie fall off the stage in 1983 or 1986? Or perhaps you could point us to the appropriate point on an audio tape, if that's in circulation (Houston '86 is in circulation). Thankee.

POOR STEVIE!!!
those heels must be hell to move around in...all this falling LOL I bought some 6" platforms not too long ago. I haven't worn them out though, I'm afraid I'll break an ankle! |
I'll post the article from the Toronto Sun, June 23, 2007, below. Then, at a later concert during the band introductions when she got to Jana Stevie mentioned how Jana ran to help get her up the night earlier, after the fall. However, Jana was so tiny she couldn't get Stevie up, although Stevie declared her to be an angel for trying.
Stevie Nicks still wonderful By JANE STEVENSON RAMA, Ont. -- Stevie Nicks was down, but not out, on Thursday night as she opened the first of two soldout solo shows at Casino Rama. The 59-year-old songbird and sometime Fleetwood Mac member fell down on stage toward the end of her hour-and 45-minute performance during an extended and lively version of her signature solo track, Edge of Seventeen. Nicks, who said backstage later that she had a bum knee that was now extremely swollen, was helped to her feet by one of her three female backup singers and none of her seven male band members, who seemed oblivious to her plight. Ever the trouper, the singer -- who still favours platform suede boots -- shook it off, laughing, and strongly finished the tune, and even came back for a two-song encore including a cover of Led Zeppelin's Rock And Roll. Touring in support of a greatest-hits album, Crystal Visions, Nicks claimed she loved to come to Canada because everyone was so nice. "As much as I love my country, they aren't that nice," the Phoenix native said. The theatrical singer, who loves flowing dresses, velvet coats and top hats, shawls, black leather clothes, and the aforementioned boots (and made about a half-dozen costume changes) had a mic stand dripping in necklaces and scarves, and never missed a moment to interpretive dance or twirl on the spot. In response, the audience rushed the stage from the moment Nicks opened her show with crowd favourite Stand Back, followed later by some Fleetwood Mac gems as Rhiannon, Dreams and Gold Dust Woman, the latter one of the set highlights as she really let it rip vocally. Unlike many of her contemporaries, Nicks astonishingly sounds exactly as she did almost 40 years ago when she was starting out. But it was the poignant Landslide, the song from the 1973 landmark Buckingham Nicks album, that put a lump in everyone's throat -- as she sang in front of a backdrop of images of her family, most prominently her elderly and fragile father. This is a performer who wears her heart on her sleeve, and we love her for it. Nicks' last song was her own Beauty and the Beast, another tearjerker as a black-and-white film acting out the tragic fairytale played behind her on a large backdrop. The singer, who also made a point of shaking the hands of most of the fans gathered at the front of the stage, wound down the evening with a last-minute plea for the music industry, which she pointed out was in "a sad state." "Go to concerts, buy albums, listen to the radio," she pleaded as she took her final bows with her entire band. SUN RATING: 4.5 out of 5 |

I love when the unexpected happens at a Stevie Nicks concert! |
I know Stevie fell here during the WH concert in 1983. I've heard lots of stories about that concert.

She fell flat on her but (well kinda slid down the drum riser) on the Street Angel tour in Richmond, VA. She was so upset she screwed up the words to the next song. She fell at the end of Talk To Me and I believe the next song was Blue Denim.
I hope there is NO video of that. It was horrifying enough to see it live. |
I'm sure there were plenty of accidental stumbles on-stage over the past 35-40 years. But in terms of so-****ed-up-she-couldn't-stand-type falls, I always thought the big one happened during one of the Petty/Dylan shows in Australia? I have nothing to back this up.

Here's the Houston incident, opening night of the RAL tour, at the end of Edge of 17:
http://www.mediafire.com/?4wm1cyn2mmz She falls at about 8:15, and you can hear the audience react. It sounds like they're cheering because she did an extended twirl or something, but it was really a lot of gasping and cries of shock. Her explanation starts about 9:50 - a little under 2 minutes later, but it seemed like 10 at the time. Stevie fell stage left, as she was completing the Edge walk. She was leaning over the aforementioned hole, reaching out toward the fans in the section beside the stage, and she lost her balance. People were also throwing flowers and stuffed animals onto the stage since she was too far away to reach them. When she disappeared I first thought she had bent down to pick something up, until the Keystone Cops rushed over and attempted to pull her back onstage. After the show, I heard someone say the hole was an audio pit that was part of the standard Summit stage setup. Stevie's audio team was in the middle of the arena floor, so the other pit was unused and supposed to have been covered up. I never got confirmation of that - just arena gossip at the time. And here's the whole show: Disc 1: http://www.mediafire.com/?jt0hm5mwmzj Disc 2: http://www.mediafire.com/?z5jyj4fnidm |

Finally, a topic to remove me from my lurk!
I was there at the concert, and I did witness the 'Tumbling Stevie' debacle. The gory details are as follows: THe Houston concert, which was indeed in 1986 at the Houston Summit (now known as the Compaq Center) was the location of said fall. Stevie literally fell /off/ of the stage. As in, into the throbbing masses. This was not a short fall. She was down for a few minutes and people were quite concerned. She did get back onstage and did resume the concert, so presumbaly was not terribly injured. However, Mama Nicks, she was pissed. She proceeded to go on for a good ten minutes lecturing the audience about rushing the stage. I was not close enough to see the stage, but I assumed that had something to do with her losing her balance (or at least, she felt that it did). After the stern rebuking, she resumed the rest of the show. What surprises me is that the fall is the focal point of the particular concert. In fact, the even more scandalous event was giving the audience a real life 'Sister of the Moon'. As in, Stevie lifted those skirts higher than PG proper. We all got a bit of a mystical treat that night. I may not be able to tell you what Scotsmen wear beneath their kilts, but Ms. Nicks? It involved black lace. all I'm sayin. Was anyone else there that remembers the flash? |

The story I had heard all those years ago was that It was "that time of the month" for Stevie and her, umm breasts were a bit swelled and umm, some fan actually had grabbed at her legs and she fell off the stage. I still remember who told me that in 1986 . |
Quote:
Perhaps I was too vague - this was a literally grabbing of skirts and lifting them up so high that we all got a shot of shangrila, if you will. Black lace panties. Only a flash, mind you. But memorable. Similar to her 'Crash' skirt hike, only with far less left to the imagination. But you are correct - I do remember her dress was very low and it did look like she was going to really, erm, ' blossom', so perhaps that was what you were referring to. |
