PS22 Chorus NOT performing with the Mac on stage..
I asked Mr. B of the PS22 chorus if the group would be performing with Fleetwood Mac since I noticed he had removed that tidbit from his blog post (he originally said they had asked the chorus to perform with the band at MSG on June 11th after Stevie watched their video of "Landslide")
Mr B. responded to my comment with the following: Chris McLeod said... I'm assuming that PS22 is no longer slated to perform with Fleetwood Mac at Madison Square Garden, considering that you deleted that part from your blog post. Is this correct? Mr. B said... hi chris, we will only be performing it for the band during soundcheck. it is going to be a surprise for stevie, and then the kids will have dinner with the band. apparently the tour manager and i somehow got our wires crossed when we had our initial conversation. winky |
Aww. :( Figured it would be too much trouble to do on stage. might be too hard for Stevie to sing it in harmony with them - and I don't think it they would be able to play Landslide by themselves since they are not Fleetwood Mac. It would have been very cool though.

It is still cool though that the chorus gets to sing for the band and is a surprise for Stevie. I hope they get some video/photos out of it. Would be an awesome experience... and WOW dinner with FM? How cool is that?

Aw, crap.
I had been looking forward to that. Something new and fresh and exciting. We wouldn't want "the band" to have to put in an extra half-hour's worth of rehearsing, would we? I mean, it might throw off those fabulous unleashed hits that they've only rehearsed for 99 years now. Or, heaven forbid, let them take the chorus, while Stevie does the verses, which would entail next to no rehearsal or blending of voices at all. FM's management sucks. They better not cheat those kids of their moment (she says, still stinging from a fifth-grade glee club slight by the then-Mayor of NYC a few decades later;-) |
I don't like children. I'm glad we don't have to suffer this. The ONLY way I want a kid's choir on stage with the Mac is for "Say You Will". . .
|
Normally, I'd agree with you there but...after hearing Landslide 90,000 times, it would be nice to have it shaken up a bit.
And I think I'm into the whole kids' dream angle. But, I guess maybe MSG isn't the best place for kids, anyhow. Not unless the circus is in town. |

I'm with you here! But I so hope they change their mind, somehow, as they will probably love the kids singing, IMO, and add them to the show! Here's praying this happens for all of them! |
I heard Susan Boyle was going to take over Christine's songs! :wavey:

I'm sad to hear this. I think it would have been a very special moment in Fleetwood Mac history and it would have been great to share that with the crowd. I don't think it would have been too much to let Stevie sing the verses and the choir sing the chorus or something.
by the way, I was under the impression it was Stevie that invited them so I didn't know that it was to be a surprise. in any event, that choir is spectacular and the homage it pays to artists like Tori Amos and Stevie is so special. they deserve a moment on stage with them. |
And to strike a jaded note, I think it would have been good publicity for FM to perform with the kids. Missed opportunity.

Aww, I bet those poor kids are disappointed.
Or maybe not. . . . maybe they're thinking that they really don't want to sing a frumpy song with a bunch of old farts. One PS22'er was overheard saying, "Ew . . . they smell like . . . like old people!" I betcha management nixed this one. The "reasoning" may have been that some audience members might have rebelled at having had to pay $200 for a ticket & then having had to listen to a bunch of kidlings sing one of the songs. |

wow i bet this is prob gonna tick someone off but i was looking forward to watching those children sing landslide with stevie...really thought it was cool that these kids even had the hand movements down...i believe it was a nice gesture to have them come to msg to surprise stevie but i just feel that since they're there anyway why not have them perform? hugs pat

I'll be there Thursday for round #2. I hope the "surprise" sets the right tone for the evening! ;)

PS22 was just a feature story on ABC Nightline. Anyone else catch it? It's nice to see kids get caught up in the music like they do. They showed them singing a Cold Play song, Eye of the Tiger, and also Landslide. They did mention that they will be performing the song for Stevie tomorrow. Their teacher Mr. B clearly loves what he does! Hope they have a blast tomorrow!
|
I did! Completely by accident while channel surfing... I recognized the kids when they were singing eye of the tiger... Nice to see them getting recognition like this.. they deserve it. I bet they could sell a bunch of cds if they recorded these tunes professionally - raise money for the music program.

This is an excerpt from ABC news, June 10, 2009. I guess they're still reporting the wrong information.
http://abcnews.go.com/print?id=7806073 Stevie Nicks, formerly of Fleetwood Mac, said their rendition of the group's song "Landslide" brought her to tears. So now they're singing for her June 11 at Madison Square Garden. "It is humbling," Breinberg said. "It is truly humbling. I went into this job to teach music. ... I mean, I shouldn't be having the opportunities I'm having." |
They are apparently going to sing for her at MSG.... It'll just be a surprise during sound check for Stevie. Not during the show.
