What are ways to show a girl you like them and want to be with them?

I was going out with a girl for maybe a month and she said she wanted to be just friends for now, and said I need to show her I want to be with her. so what are ways to impress her and and be a gentleman.

jannieC 05-29-2009 06:34 PM

How old are you?

jr2280 05-29-2009 06:36 PM

Hey fellow PA pal...I'm sure the girls here would be much more help with your situation.

I just had to say I was almost positive that this thread was started by Ethan before I clicked on it. ;)

I knew it wasn't Ethan when I saw the subject wasn't all in caps.

When I first saw this I was like:

"Who the hell brought back one of my old threads????":laugh::laugh:

Glad to see I'm not the only one to ever ask for this kind of thing!:D

Well trying to work out what women want is very hard. I've been married 8 yrs, together with my wife for 10 in total, and I still don't know...

I guess it is just about making her feel special, paying her attention, spending time with her not your friends, not playing computer games instead of spending time with her when she's over, giving her a random hug, really listening to what she is saying, etc.

Then again, some women just like to play games with men. Sometimes nothing you do will ever make it work because she doesn't see in you what you see in her, or perhaps she just sees you as fun and not serious. Or she's a complete b*tch.. :)

Ain't that the truth. ethan starts a monthly girl thread

jannieC 05-29-2009 10:03 PM

Well I think it's somewhat telling that she says this one month into the relationship? What have you been doing so far? Most people are pretty into it that early on and don't have difficulty showing it unless one is painfully shy.

carrie721 05-30-2009 10:22 PM

do not go out of your way to impress her.

if she says she just wants to be friends. SHE MEANS IT.

focus your efforts elsewhere.

DigYourGrave 05-31-2009 07:54 AM

Dont bring her flowers. Cheesey. :p

Do make her playlists. Not cheesey. :D

Really? My wife always complains that I don't buy her flowers anywhere near often enough...

DigYourGrave 05-31-2009 09:23 AM

Well, wife, no. Bring her flowers.

Girl you are trying to impress-Cheese!

Actually I sent my wife a dozen red roses not long after we started going out. It must have worked because she married me. She still has a photo of them 10 years later. Probably the only time I've been able to afford a dozen red roses...

DigYourGrave 06-01-2009 08:23 AM

Ah but, think of them as an investment.
A wonderful turnover there; A wife you're madly in love with! :D

tuigirl 06-01-2009 01:52 PM

hey, just be yourself. If she really wants to be with you, she'll take you as you are, warts (flowers 0r no flowers) and all. Good luck.xx

Agreed. With both of 'em.

It takes some sort of miraculous dynamics in order for both parties to feel exactly the same. Unfortunately, it doesn't always work out for one person.

Unfortunately that is completely right as well. But hey, that's life. I guess learning that at a young age is always good. But then again, possibly why I gave up on persuing relationships altogether....

iamnotafraid 06-01-2009 07:13 PM

Whatever you do, don't buy her a gold bracelet!
That will jinx the relationship.

Sorceress 06-02-2009 07:16 AM

Sounds like a bit of a game on her part..."I don't like you that way, but entertain me and give me an ego boost by proving how much you like ME."

ps: I come from Lancaster area too. I haven't lived there for a long time, but remember well how weird the social environment there can be.

The first time I fell in love, it was mutual. That made it so much easier. The second time I fell, it was for someone I had no business falling for, and I never fessed up, but I'm certain that person didn't feel the same. That's just life. But when you really, truely fall in love with someone, you just know it. I knew it the first time I ever kissed my husband that I would marry him someday. The love never fades or dies, despite all their flaws and mistakes. You may see the flaws, but at the same time, they're transparent. Anyhow, Chris, don't give up. I hate saying this as much as you hate hearing it, but you're still very young for something of that nature to happen. When the time is right, it will happen, and it'll be nothing like you've ever experienced before in your life.

What???? Explain please......

michelle2677 06-07-2009 04:38 PM

i disagree that flowers are cheesy. i think it's a nice sentiment, but i'm in a different generation :) but honestly, i agree-if she says she just wants to be friends, but to show her you're interested? that almost sounds like she's wanting you to chase her, and that's just game-playing. at 22 i guess that's fine. i'm just at a different stage in my life (ack! almost 31) and you either like someone, or not. none of this "oh...well, let's just be friends until you can show me you really like me". f*ck that sh*t.

but you know this girl better than we do, so you have to follow your heart and use your own judgement. best of luck!

Don't be too nice. Treat her like crap and she'll be begging for your attention, or just ignore her altogether. Within 3 weeks she'll be calling trying to figure out where you've been.

It's the kiss of death to a relationship. Believe me, I know!
I would like to go into more detail here, but............

This thread reminds me of the movie Sixteen Candles:

Samantha: "You know,
just now I really felt
how much you like me".

Farmer Ted: "You're probably zoning in
on my brain waves or something".

Samantha: "Well, not really.
I felt it on my leg."

To answer your question I really think it depends on the person you are trying to express your feelings to. There are lots of things you can do, and the more you know about them the easier it should be. You could find out if she had a favorite toy or doll when she was little and try to buy it for her on e-bay or something?
You could try and cook her favorite meal and rent her favorite movie?

Years ago for a girl I had fallen for, I bought a heart shaped box, and filled it with strips of paper on which I had written all the things about her that I loved. It seems cheesy, but it made her cry, and we did start dating. Of course she ended up cheating on me later, but what can you do?

What????? Are you insane? Treat her like crap, and if she's got a brain, she'll be gone....

Do you think you were aloof or standoffish? Or do you think she is off base and maybe needs too much attention? If the former is true then I would try being more demonstrative, you have nothing to lose at this point. I'm with the flowers crew. If the latter is true then I would take Carrie's advice and just move on.

Zombie 06-09-2009 10:50 AM

The wimmins is weird, but if she actually has a valid reason for wanting you to show her you care (like you were being aloof before or something, as other posters have mentioned), then I'm of the sound opinion that actions speak louder than words.

Think of something she really enjoys or likes, and do something for her that revolves around that. We can use my boyfriend as an example (because he's just fantastic, really... not that I'm bragging...okay, I'm bragging):

I have a fetish for boysenberry pancake syrup from IHOP. Unfortunately, there are no IHOPs anywhere near where I live so I rarely get to indulge in said fetish. On his way home from a weekend trip, my boyfriend spontaneously stopped at a random IHOP and bribed the workers into giving him something like a quart of freakin' boysenberry syrup.

10,000 points!

He does random acts of awesome like that on a fairly regular basis, from the pancake syrup thing to making me an Easter basket to putting ridiculous music on the Waffle House jukebox at 2 AM and dancing me around the room amidst somnolent truckers and drunken bikers.

Oh, and he left me his hacked Xbox with the NES emulator on it so I can play me some old-school Street Fighter whenever I please while he's back in Florida for work.
If that ain't love, then I don't know what is. :D

Be creative and all will be well in your peaceable kingdom. :xoxo:
