Fleetwood Mac in Australia 2009???

This was in The West Australian newspaper today (6th May 2009):

"A bidding war has erupted as top Australian promoters jostle to bring legendary rock group Fleetwood Mac to Australia next summer. The band, without singer and keyboard player Christine McVie, played two sell-out shows at the WACA Ground in 2004, with singer Stevie Nicks returning for a solo gig alongside John Farnham at the same venue two years later. The first Mac attack at the WACA sold out within hours, so the promoters are super keen to land what is rumoured to be Fleetwood Mac's farewell world tour before they go their own way, again. A source told The West that we could expect to see Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie here in December or January."

So I'm excited!!!! :blob2:

They need to do Europe first!

HejiraNYC 05-06-2009 08:04 AM

Well if they are talking about Australia at the end of the year then I guess Europe would be before that?

I only hope they come to Perth, we often miss out because we are so far from all the other Australian cities...

DigYourGrave 05-06-2009 08:59 AM

Ok. This is great news. :D

Over here though we usually hear about tours and dates for huge bands like FM at least 3/4 months in advance (except for festivals and such, but the Mac have made their position on those very clear, at least for 09 anyway.:P) So, If they're gonna do Australia AFTER Europe, then wouldnt they wanna be finished up in Europe in like, November? So shouldnt we hear dates, ticket prices, etc. like... NOW? or at least before May is out.

I'm gonna be super pissed if this European leg is badly handled...:distress:

The dance 05-06-2009 02:44 PM

If the info is correct than Australia will come after Europe.
I think they will do Europe in September Oktober and after a few weeks time off move on to Australia. If FM will do Europe in these months than i think we will have new dates and info in June!! Anayone else???

Janis_no1 05-07-2009 07:30 AM

Hmmm so they are touring, i got an email from some Aussie fans saying it was declared two days ago, though i couldn't find anything on a google search... let me try today.... nope cant find anything

BellaDonna93 05-07-2009 08:49 AM

This is AWESOME news !!!!! I hope that the Europe dates will be announced soon 'cause I'm almost sure that if they do Australia then they have to do Europe :)

The dance 05-15-2009 03:36 AM

Perhaps somebody heard anything about a tour in Europe and Australia or is there still no news...................

Liza 05-15-2009 07:36 AM

I do a Google search everyday for dates this year, but nothing so far. I emailed Live Nation yesterday and they said there is nothing to confirm either. Just keep our fingers crossed.;)

StreetAngel86 06-15-2009 09:07 PM

i think that's gonna be the same deal next year
avoid the US winter

im not gonna be around :distress: but if a tour hits here imma flying home for it for shuurrrrrrrre, for the Melb show anyway :D

my dad said there was a story on the news or in the paper last week
im not sure where [not that WA story] about a summer concert here. it wasnt confirmed i dont think but the stories ARE out there

The dance 06-16-2009 05:49 AM

I think after the European dates they will have a few weeks off. Than i think they will tour the first two-three weeks of december in Australia and be home for the christmas holidays.

mylittledemon 06-16-2009 08:53 AM

I believe Simon & Garfunkel have played there a few days ago. I've seen them once, i believe it was in 2004 on their European old friends tour.
Did you see them demon????

I did not see Simon and Garfunkel, I must profess I was never a fan (of either of them).

If Fleetwood Mac plays Oz at least, I'll be there.

DoubtfulMiracle 07-22-2009 05:38 AM

Bumpity bump!

Checked Ticketek this arvo as I always do and noticed that they now have the Fleetwood Mac waitlist on their home page. Sure, they're saying it's for a potential Australian tour, and the waitlist has probably been available for ages, but I totally squeed anyway. The Nickelback waitlist turned into the real deal (unfortunate but true) after a month or so on the home page so my fingers are crossed!

In any case, there's little Mac faces on Ticketek - squee worthy I tell you! :blob2:

StreetAngel86 07-23-2009 09:48 PM

i saw that too on my twitter this morning
im a ticketek member
but i still subbed to the wait list
i wanna go soooooooooooooooo bad
i missed all the US shows
and Europe is too difficult for me to get to atm

Excalibur881 08-08-2009 03:17 AM

Yes, see the ticketmaster story for New Zealand. It says December 29th in New Plymouth Bowl of Brooklands but I am certain it is 19th from someone in the know.

Mac to Australia mention in article...

Paul McCartney heads star tour acts heading to Australia

August 09, 2009 12:00am
PAUL McCartney is planning Australian concerts as part of his final world tour next year.

His plan to include Australia in his farewell tour coincides with a decision by other superstars, including Fleetwood Mac and Neil Diamond, to play Down Under this year and in 2010.

British reports say Sir Paul, 67, wants to perform the shows at famous landmarks.

China's Tiananmen Square and Berlin's Checkpoint Charlie are on his wish-list. Several Brazil dates are set for April.

Fleetwood Mac, with frontwoman Stevie Nicks, is strongly tipped to do arena and select winery dates in December.

Winery dates?? I know Mick might do them on his own, but FM? Saints preserve us.

Agreed!

These shows can be risky - they are usually highly priced, the weather can ruin them, acoustics are often difficult and the traffic/parking issues at these places make them a right pain!

It will be inetresting to see if any eventuate. The promoters seem to talk the artists into them. I don't think Stevie will like them - imagine if she has to get up at 8am for an afternoon show?

Excalibur881 08-10-2009 10:47 PM

Couple of questions - do they do any Stevie Nicks solo songs? Is the set list a "greatest hits"? Any rarities?

The only solo song is Stand Back. Yes they did one real rarity during the American portion of the tour.

Michele

Hey, I have a question....has anything been said about FM touring in 2010? I totally missed out this year on getting to see them during their tour...and I'm PRAYING that I get another chance next year.....I'm totally out of the loop.

cristochango 08-10-2009 11:03 PM

I know during the say you will tour they did the american tour, went over seas and all that stuff then came back and did some more in america, do you think they will do that again / would that mean we all could have the potential to maybe see them one more time this tour?

SO jealous... I might be going to Australia for Christmas and I would LOVE to see Mac there although knowing my family, we won't know if we're actually going until a month before :(

Meh, I think FM could pull an even better show at a small venue if they got into the audience more. At this point, its basically all Lindsey working the crowd-- and he does it well, let me tell you. Being close to the stage, he really interacts with the audience. In a smaller venue, there will be a lot less people sitting around looking bored in the average or nosebleed seats. I tend to find that less people in smaller venues = a more personal experience and probably, a more personal aura coming from the band.

That's what I've noticed with most bands that I have seen in both big and smaller venues. I donno if Mac will be the same.

In terms of Australia... probably Sydney and Melbourne. My best friend's parents just got divorced and her dad went back home to Melbourne, so I'll definitely be there within the year considering her and I are attached at the hip. :)

There was a interview with stevie posted on this website. It was for radio and she said this was going to be a huge tour. After the american part of the tour they most likely would go to Europe and perhaps also Australia. Well, she was right on that one...... After this they would maybe do some more shows in the states.... The interview was posted over here...... Maybe you can still find it....

Me too. Especially since I was so broke this year and didn't get to see them. I just got a new job, though, so I'll start saving money...just in case!
