Stevie's 11 Solo albums?

Hi everyone,

Yet again I've been reading an interview with Stevie where she mentions her 11 solo albums and, try as I might, I can only ever count 10:

Bella Donna
The Wild Heart
Rock A Little
The Other Side Of The Mirror
Street Angel
Trouble In Shangri-La

Timespace
Enchanted
Crystal Visions
Soundstage

That makes 10 - what on earth is she counting as her 11th solo release?! Help - it's really annoying me!

I thought of that at first too but that's not a solo album and I've heard her mention 11 solo records where she's "the Boss" several times. Someone must know, it's driving me crazy!!

Well I guess it is an album outside of FM, hence she would probably consider it to be a solo album (even though they were a duo).

Maybe they are counting "The Divine Stevie Nicks" as a solo album.

She got slammed around here for this release. I get that it is a rehash, which sucks. However, it is a release of lesser known works, which was cool.

Too bad she didn't tour behind this record. I think she could pull off an awesome live version of Ghosts.

strandinthewind 04-18-2009 12:02 PM

Not to mention "Long Way To Go"

Dodfather 04-18-2009 12:59 PM

I always thought that The Divine Stevie Nicks was a crappy unofficial thing. Am I wrong?

skuncles 04-18-2009 02:03 PM

The Divine Stevie Nicks isn't an unofficial album, it's a legit album. But it was put out in Europe only by EMI (her label overseas). EMI put out several of these, I believe there is also a "The Devine Pat Benatar" among others in "The Divine" series. I don't know why Stevie would have been slammed for this release, she had nothing to do with it. It's a budget import title, nothing more nothing less. It's not like her "Love's A Hard Game" EP released only in Japan where she wrote a message to her Japanese fans.

starshine 04-18-2009 02:23 PM

I also have The Divine.....but I love WH /Mirror ....it would've been cool if they'd have released a 2nd Divine with BD/RAL on it too. :D

I own it too. But really all it is, is half the songs from The Other Side Of The Mirror and half the songs from The Wild Heart. It's not really much of a compilation. Personally I think it's because EMI Europe own the rights to those two and not the others so it seems doubtful to me that Stevie had much to do with it.

I agree - she had little to do with it. But, I like the songs on it - so, I like it

I question even that Stevie knows it's out there.

No, I agree, I like it too but like David says I can't imagine Stevie is even aware of it. I don't think it's the 11th album she's talking about.

strandinthewind 04-18-2009 03:39 PM

I am pretty sure she would have had to have okay'd it. So, I am sure she is aware of it. In fact, she offers things up in interviews all the time where I kind of am amazed she knew about that issue. But, who knows.

THats how i felt about it also. AND id never seen that pic on the cover before then, and the one on the back where it was just her eyes. It is like the cool dreamyer "lesser known" songs like Alice and Wild Heart, who casual fans who only had timespace might enjoy.

I don't think she does either - or if does - she forgot. She gets years wrong all the time. I bet she just pulled the 11 number out of thin air - sounded good enough. I remember her saying something about the wild heart tour "I guess it was in 1984"

Exactly, this is a release that was exclusive to Europe.

Actually record labels don't have to get permission from the artists to re-issue stuff unless the artist holds the rights to the recordings. Stevie doesn't own her recordings, the label does. She owns her songs, not the recordings, there is a difference. So as long as EMI or Waner Bros (which owns/owned Modern) has the rights they can release whatever they want, whenever they want.
For instance Capitol Records will be re-releasing the entire Beatles catalog for the first time since 1987, they didn't have to get the ok from Paul McCartney or Ringo Starr. Very few artists can control what a record label does.

I'll say. When I saw the band during SYW, Stevie introduced Beautiful Child as a song she'd written from the Tusk album in 1971.

Then they must have gotten permission from Michael Jackson cause he owns the publishing to the music of The Beatles. On a side note, you forgot to include Yoko Ono who would speak on behalf of Johnny Boy.

Correct me if I am wrong; doesn't that album just contain songs from Wild Heart and The Other Side of the Mirror? A very strange compilation. I never bought it because when I first saw it, I knew exactly what it was -- an Eurpeon knock-off. However, I do like the cover shot, and may just get it for collector reasons. But I don't think anyone should include this as part of Stevie's official discography.

Remember this: Stevie has always been a little fuzzy when it comes to facts and figures. It's very typical/expected that she wouldn't get the number of her albums right.

trackaghost 04-19-2009 07:56 PM

It does contain songs from those two albums however it's not unofficial in the sense that it's released by EMI, Stevie's European record company in the 80s (but unoffical in the sense that it's probably not endorsed by Stevie herself). I don't know if it has a different meaning in the US but knock-off here means like a pirate copy or a bootleg and The Divine Stevie Nicks isn't that.

Musicman408 04-19-2009 08:48 PM

I owned the Divine before I got OSOTM, so it gave me a nice taste for the stylings of that album!!!

Perhaps I could have chosen my words more carefully. I didn't mean to imply that the album was a bootleg; I acknowledge it as an official release. By "knock-off" I meant it was a perculiar collection of previously released songs that were culled together for a foreign audience. I don't include it as "official" part of her discography because Stevie likely had nothing to do with it ( record executives did). I wonder what was the impetus/reasoning for it?? I have many of these types of cds. Strangely, I haven't been compelled to get this CD. But now, being the compulsive completist that I am, I may have to!

If you go to nicksfix, they include Stand back remix album as the 11th solo album?????????

No, it's not included as the 11th solo album, John Kinney added it there so people would click the Amazon link to buy it. It's only a remix single. The Divine is counted as the 11th solo album.

Actually, it is included as the 11th solo album and there are links to Amazon for all of the albums listed under "Albums - solo". The Divine is not included under that link however. Only when you click "Albums - all" is it listed.

It can't be...it's a remix single. I have the physical copy, right on the back it says "Original version available on the Reprise album Crystal Visions...The Very Best of Stevie Nicks". It's a single that supported Crystal Visions, it's not a separate release. Like i said, John Kinney put it under the "Albums - solo" link so people would click the link to buy it. The Stand Back maxi-single is equivalent to the Planets of the Universe maxi-single.

Also, on the bottom of the front cover of the physical copy, it says "Compact Disc Maxi Single".
