Old Gift of Screws

Hello all,

I'm new here but I am pretty recent hardcore Lindsey fan. I love Gift of Screws, but I haven't been able to find any currently active downloads for the old Gift of Screws that has the Say You Will tracks on it. I was wondering if any fellow Lindsey fans could help me out? Thanks a bunch guys!:)

Nico 04-15-2009 09:53 PM

MacAttack, I haven't got any for you because I have no idea how to post mp3s but someone will help you out. However, welcome!:wavey: It's so awesome to meet a new Lindsey fan. And pray tell, how did you suddenly become a "hardcore" LB fan? I'm just curious because I love to hear these kinds of things.

I'm pretty sure recently someone posted these mp3s on some thread. I'll check and see if I can find but in the meantime I'm sure someone will help you out before that.

MacAttack88 04-15-2009 10:05 PM

Well Nico, I have been aware of and a casual fan of Fleetwood Mac since around the time of The Dance when I was 11 years old, and Lindsey just blew me away with his version of Big Love. However, I really got into them when they helped me through a break-up last September. I had heard so much about Tusk that I decided to buy it and it just clicked with me. I had never really had music speak to me like that on such a complete level before and the Lindsey songs are what jumped out at me, that mixture of sadness, longing, regret, anger, hurt, spite...that was everything that I was feeling. I bought the rest of the discography, including Lindsey's solo records and I have been hooked ever since. I saw them on tour in Boston a few weeks back and it was a wonderful experience. I cannot get over what a musical genius Lindsey is!

You need to hear Say Goodbye, in its truest, unfettered form-

Pure beauty. Stevie's vocal overlay (on SYW) turned it into a cartoon.

MacAttack88 04-15-2009 11:35 PM

LukeA,

Thank you so much, absolutely awesome! I don't think I will ever get tired of this man plucking at a guitar! You got anymore from GOS? ;)

D.W-Suite 04-16-2009 06:04 AM

Would anyody mind uploading the entire album? I used to have it but then my computer crashed and I lost everything.

I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for:

http://rapidshare.com/files/222023677/Bootleg_GOS.rar

I downloaded this from some site before the real GOS came out (and it has the SYW tracks on there as mentioned), although I think I might have deleted one track as it didn't fit on a CD...

I've absolutely no idea if this is what everyone is talking about or not, but hopefully it is of some use to someone?

While we're on this topic, can someone please upload the GOS version of Peacekeeper? (preferably the 320kpbs version) Its one of the files that I lost when my computer died last week, and the original disc is packed up somewhere.

Thank you!

EDIT- Never mind, found it!

MacAttack88 04-16-2009 04:51 PM

Thank you so much chriskisn! I just got back from school and I am downloading now, I cannot wait to listen!

Oh, luke, could you upload it? I lost it too.

By the way, lindsey's name is spelled incorrectly......:D;)

MacAttack88 04-17-2009 09:11 AM

Man, I have just been blown away by the original GOS. All of the SYW tracks sound much better to my ears. And I enjoy Twist of Fate better than I do Right Place to Fade. Is there a studio version of My Little Demon floating around or is that just on The Dance?

To my ears, Come and TOF/RPTF are basicly the same. but on the rest i agree.

michelej1 04-17-2009 12:31 PM

There's a GOS version of My Little Demon, with a much different vibe than the Dance version. Less playful, more gritty I think.

AliceLover 04-17-2009 01:33 PM

Is there only one version of Twist of Fate on the GOS boots?

Yes, its pretty amazing that Lindsey's own record label got the spelling of his name wrong. Then again, this was back when the exec's at WBR actively despised him.

Thanks dude. That's my Peacekeeper. Amazing that they despised him. I know he can be a cocky irritating *ss, but every frigging exec should have recognized the Gold in their hands when he came up with this batch of songs.

Betsy 04-18-2009 10:17 AM

Thanks LukeA for Peacekeeper and Say Goodbye. I never really paid much attention to the Lindsey-only versions. I like the sound better than the SYW versions...maybe because his voice blends better with himself. Sadly, I find it difficult to listen to Stevie's voice as she sounds today. And I do like her and her songs.

Chriskisn - thank you also for GOS uploads. Through your efforts I now have them at home on my second computer.

Danax6 had uploaded all of them in the Lindsey's Demo Bin (Shackin' Up's famous thread) but those links have run out. I used to have the songs, but my motherboard went south on the first computer and I have to install and slave the old hard drive on the new one. We're in a snow storm today (already have 15 inches and it's still coming down) so I might get it accomplished.

Anyhow, I just wanted to thank you guys for your time and sharing.

MacAttack88 04-19-2009 06:08 PM

The original Peacekeeper is INCREDIBLE!!

I missed the link to the promo-solo Peacekeeper version - it doesn`t work anymore. Could someone please help me out?
Thanks a lot,

I had the track on my old PC, which is out of order. Glad to have the song back.

chriskisn 05-18-2009 10:01 PM

I finally worked out which songs I had deleted off that GOS bootleg. There is a live version of Lindsey doing "Here Comes the Sun" and a live version of "Say You Will" with Stevie.

If anyone wants these I can upload them, but really they aren't worth it... ;)

MacAttack88 05-19-2009 10:57 AM

"Here Comes the Sun" would be cool to have, definitely!

No, it wouldn't. Have you heard it? Worst piece of crap ever to reach human ears. I'd rather be forced to listen to Stevie's Other Side Of The Mirror album over & over than to hear Lindsey disrespect George Harrison's memory like that again.

Now come on TOSOTM is a great album...

You are right though, Lindsey does murder Here Comes The Sun. Just like he murdered Love Minus Zero/No Limit but we won't even go there...

Here's the link for those who wish to assault their ears...

No idea what that version of SYW is, it was just on the end of the bootleg when I downloaded it long ago...

Some years back, I took my CD of TOSOTM & donated it to the local library. I had no desire to ever hear it again.

To be honest I like those two covers. I rather his version of Love Minus Zero, I think he did a great job with that, but maybe it's just because I have absolutely no time for Bob Dylan in general like. As for Here Comes the Sun, I like it, his singing and guitar work is great on it.

Lame. Ooh My Love, Ghosts, Rooms on Fire, Long Way to Go, and Doing the Best that I can are better than most of the crud on RAL and SA.

Nico 05-22-2009 06:14 PM

I don't think Lindsey "murdered" either of these songs. I like his version of LMZ/NL better than the original. I listen to it way more. I also really appreciate the effort he made with HCTS. I thought it sounded very passionate and original. And I'm pretty sure George would have enjoyed it.

I've loved the Beatles and Bob Dylan practically all my life and have heard many covers made of their songs through the years. Compared to some things I have heard, Lindsey's ventures were tasteful, artistic, and unique. I really don't understand why people seem to think it's "sacrilegious" to interpret a song differently than how it was first recorded. I welcome it and judge it solely on how it sounds to my ears and avoid making comparisons to the original work. It's pointless.

I think the word "great" is way overused...especially in terms of Stevie Nicks

I don't mind his Dylan cover...it just sounds like a softer version of the Byrds version. And, I actually LIKE his Rolling Stones covers. He just had his head WAY up his sphincter on the George Harrison cover.

I've tried to make my aesthetic clear here for many years: the quality of the lyric is generally a somewhat irrelevant point with me (aside from wanting the words to sound good within the framework of the music). My ear is attuned to the sound of the track itself -- its sonic environment & the play of its orchestrative ideas -- rather than to the quality or the substance of the lyric. I probably have this inclination because of my interest in classical music, which usually compels one to follow specific threads of motive development and transformation. I find the sonic atmosphere (highfalutin term but it describes best what I mean) of the "Mirror" album unpleasant: pinched, tinny, out of balance. The instruments aren't doing anything that interests me, & they're recorded & mic'd in ways that grate on my hearing.
