FM European Tour in doubt?

Hi, how we all doin?

I've just been reading the latest post on nickslive.blogspot.com (by far the best source for news I've found!) and again I'm seeing posts about European dates being in doubt...

As a HUGE Man fan in the UK I'm getting fed up with the uncertainty - haha! I wish the band would just announce dates or either issue a statement saying that the tour will be US only. Keeping everyone waiting doesn't seem fair. Does anyone agree that in the economic times they keep mentioning it is more responsible to give people as much notice as possible so they can budget for a trip as best as possible etc?

I really doubt that there won't be any European/British dates. There have to be - I couldn't handle the disappointment if there weren't - haha! But seriously, half the band are English after all so it would be VERY bad form for them not to come to the UK/Europe. In fact, if they didn't come to the UK/Europe after all of this I'd be GUTTED and would be annoyed with them for not rewarding their fans! I'm sure there are plenty of people who agree?

Matthew 04-10-2009 01:52 PM

Well, I don´t understand that. They said at the beginning that they don´t tour because of earning money, but they do it for music! So why they are so interested in money... Mac´s and Stevie´s fan in US are really happy... but what about us... damn it... :( I have never seen anyone of them... I´m big fan of Stevie, I doubt that she rejoined the group after SYW tour, and also I doubt that she will tour sometimes solo in Europe... but now, when they tour together again, I hope that they will come here and I´m gonna see her in concert... but I still cannot be sure...

Also, I don´t make any hopes, that they will do a concert here in Czech Republic, but it would´t be big problem to go to the Germany for me. But if they will stay only in US... i will be very angry.

SorcererJP 04-11-2009 09:05 AM

Well Stevie Toured the US a dozen times since she last was solo in Europe in 1989...always neglected the European fans. The Time-line-up came to Europe in 1994 and The Dance didn't. The SYW-tour was just a handful of shows in Ireland, UK and Germany. Not really a European tour...

Thanks to the internet we could read about it and everytime I got a little frustrated about all the euphoric chit-chat about it....

Alas, I also doubt that they will tour Europe this time and ever again. If they will, it would be in the fall I guess, because if they should, we just have to had all the dates announced so far already.

It just sucks ! So, to keep up with another thread...do not hold signs with songrequests, but please hold up signs with texts like: 'Do not fotget about our friends ouside the US'

The dance 04-12-2009 03:35 PM

I keep in mind that this is a Greatest Hits tour so this is a good time to come to countries they haven't been for a while.
Countries like Spain, Sweden, Italy, Holland, Belgium, Denmark...............
I hope to see them... Lets just wait and see.. If they will go on tour in europe than new dates will come soon...

DigYourGrave 04-13-2009 12:28 PM

Quite basically, I will be super-pissed. End of.. :(

Its been 5 and a half years. Pull the finger out. :(

shackin'up 04-13-2009 03:41 PM

nothing has been confirmed yet. nothing has been denied either. They're walking on eggs. They are trying eachother out again in overviewable legs. They've played about 15 shows, three weeks off and then about 30 to go. I bet they just NOW decided if they will be doing shows abroad, and are giving the orders to start planning in these weeks. Or giving the order to hold back and first see how the first batch of the second leg will turn out.

It's all rumours, people, don't be impatient. They're coming over. Or not.

Tango 04-13-2009 04:17 PM

Matthew, I have to disagree a bit with you: this tour was set up precisely to make money, and not just for the art/music. MacMan posted this thread months ago:

Fleetwood Mac '09: Nostalgia, cash and a tale of two divas named Stevie and Lindsey:

http://ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/showthread.php?t=39112

The high priced "I Love All Access," plus the additional (was it $200 or $250) money to shake Mick's hand made it fairly clear from the get go that this tour was about the money and art. I saw several Lindsey solo shows where he repeatedly mentioned needing to work with "the big machine" to get the capital he needed to continue doing what he wanted to do: SOLO work. I don't think Mick would be out hawking at Cosco's if it wasn't about the money.

http://www.handmadecatalog.com/files...27349cd5e0.jpg

What no one anticipated, when this tour was initially set up, was the sudden change in the global economy.

Dodfather 04-13-2009 04:23 PM

I take your point, and obviously there's nothing anyone can do until if and when dates are announced but I just hope that they give fans enough notice for European dates. Mist hugely successful bands (recent and upcoming tours include U2, Bruce Springsteen, Britney Spears and Madonna) announce dates far enough in advance to make it possible for the fans to budget for what is often a major trip away far enough in advance.

If the following FM dates are anywhere this summer or August then people really need to hear sooner rather than later. Personal dynamics of band members need to be a bit more of a secondary concern because they won;t have anyone to play to in the first place if people haven't been able to afford the trip.

It's all just getting a bit frustrating!

Dodfather 04-13-2009 04:26 PM

The change in the global economy isn't really sudden as far as this tour goes. Dates went on sale in March and problems were well underway then. They had been brewing for a LONG time and the economy has been as bad this for the entire of 2009.

I find it hard to believe that an enormous organisation like FM could not plan for the economic situation. We've all known about it for a long time.

Exactly. They could have adjusted their expenses to bring ticket prices down from where they're at currently, but didn't.

Dodfather 04-13-2009 04:54 PM

It's not the prices of tickets as such that bother me. I'm prepared to pay to see the band and the bigger the band the more expensive the ticket - that's how it usually goes.

However, with the high ticket prices in mind they should give fans as much notice as possible so that they can comfortably meet those prices. That's the thing that's getting me.

95% of ticket sales are processed with a credit card- the onus isn't (and shouldn't be) on the act to facilitate favorable financial arrangements, such as timing. In the end, you either can afford the ticket or you can't.

That said, many acts do prefer putting dates up on sale very far in advance, whether it be for strategic reasons or simply to collect on the interest that comes from holding onto the money that long.

gold_dust 04-13-2009 07:51 PM

As I said on the Steve board:

I would be seriously peeved if they didn't do Europe. I get that it costs money to tour the band, but it also costs money to see the band - and we don't have as nearly as much money to burn in our pockets as they do.

I never really understood why they didn't tour worldwide during the Mirage tour, and it's kind of a kick in the teeth to the worldwide fans who never got to see them, yet bought their album.

I don't believe money can be such an issue, especially when, collectively, they are worth as much as they are. If you're that into playing music, you ditch the unnecessary crap and do what you love. There's no need for excess, anymore. And, I really think touring before new material hasn't helped. If they release something after the tour's over, I'd seriously have to question to point of the tour to begin with. Not everyone has money to burn in their pocket, but at least with new material, we'd be getting something other than what they've been re-hashing for years on end. I'm really surprised that nothing from SYW is even in the set list. And, if no new material appears, this tour will seem like it was just for the sake of touring, and it may seem like a waste of money.

While I agree with you, Miss Nicks has made it clear that she needs $200K per show.

(i HATE when people try to pin it all on Stevie.) I really would like them to tour Europe, just for you guys and for no other reason. I am tired of the touring, and want new music, and new projects.

THis is also a problem over here in the states, Even though my show wasnt till THE END OF MAY, the tour was announced one day,and in the blink of an eye the tickets were on sale. it was like:eek: um, let me rob a bank and get back to ya.:distress::lol:

Well, yes. But, when Lindsey or Mick start making flippant, obviously uninformed comments about putting promoters out of business, let me know.

Almost Simon 04-14-2009 07:18 AM

How many London dates did they play last time? Earls Court, wasn't it? I'm sure they'll come and play the 02. That seems to be "the venue" for the big acts now. 20,000 seater and i'm sure they'd sell enough tickets to fill it at least twice, even in the current economic situation. Possibly more dates if demand is high.

Stevie Wonder played there last year and played half a dozen or so shows, about £75 per ticket. And he had a huge backing band. I would imagine The Mac would charge roughly the same.

And if they play London they'll play 2 or 3 other UK shows and then onwards into Europe. It'll happen, i'm sure.

I think they played about a dozen dates here last time including a couple at Earls Court but I also think they will play the 02 this time around, possibly Manchester and one or two others. I would love them to come to Newcastle again as it is only thirty minutes drive but I can't see that happening.

I don't think the ticket prices will be as low as £75 though after paying £60 nearly six years ago. Tickets for top solo acts cost about £60 now and I think The Eagles tickets are about £90 so I am expecting to pay at least £90.

The dance 04-14-2009 08:54 AM

If you really want to see FM than the price does not really matter. There are lots of countries in Europe FM has not been for the last 15 years. So if they come the concerts wil be sold out, i'm sure. Okay you can talk about the price of tickets but take a look at U2. The new tour has prices from 30 Euro up until 170 Euro. I think FM should also do something like that.

That much??? Man, i'd have to pass then. As much as I want to see them live I do have a limit on how much i'm prepared to spend. I paid £150 for two Stevie Wonder tickets at the 02 and I didnt enjoy it. A poor show. Thats the risk you take I guess but after being bitten once I don't want to risk wasting what is a considerable amount of cash in these times.

Dodfather 04-14-2009 09:03 AM

I'm fine with those prices. As a one-off expense I'm prepared to pay it to see them. It's roughly what I would expect actually, same goes for the venues. O2, Manchester MEN, not sure of where else although if it's Glasgow it will be the SECC.

I'll go anywhere in the country but I hope to hear about dates asap so I can plan the trip and budget for it.

Matthew 04-14-2009 01:16 PM

I´m not rich, but I could spend a lot of money to see Stevie on concert at least once in my life... I think it´s worth seeing. Money aren´t really important in this situation for me... i´m big fan and I want to see that show not only on youtube...

I paid £75 for Earls Court last time out. Admitedly that was the top price but I would expect not to get much change out of a hundred quid for the best seats. That's why I'm still not sure I would go. I live in Southampton and lovely though our Mayflower theatre is I doubt if FM will be gracing it with their presence. So for me it's London which means I normally have to go on a Saturday and either travel back late or stay up in London (more expense). If I go mid week it means taking at least a day off work. I can't see me making the effort (which I'm sure is very upsetting to Mick and his friends)

Are London venues more expensive than elsewhere in the UK as the £60 I paid in 2003 got me 4th row centre tickets in Newcastle. I am half expecting to have to make the 500 mile round trip to London this time around (which is no problem as my brother lives there so no accommodation charges:)).

I am prepared to pay whatever it takes to get a good seat as I wasn't a particularly big fan in 2003 but was blown away with what I saw and since discovering this forum shorly after feel I have missed out on so much becoming a fan only a short while ago.

I think London must be more expensive - £60 - that was good.

I saw FM at the Birmingham NEC in 2003 and tickets costs £50. I would be majorly disappointed if they did come to the UK but only did London. Mick and John, at least, should know better than to just neglect the rest of the country.

Of yes of course, never mind the fact that half the band are in fact European themselves and the band was born and nurtured in the heart of the UK.

Doesn't matter, we'll take another "meh" record over seeing them live. In fact, I look forward to it...

I swear if they don't rear their faces over here before the year is out... *rolls up sleeves.*..

It's that sentiment that got me to start this thread in the first place.

Although I have to disagree with your "meh" album comment. I love Say You Will. In fact, see my post about it on the main Rumours board...

Can anybody tell me why when FM goes on tour they do concerts in the USA, UK, Ireland a few in Germany but they don't play in more European countries like Holland, Belgium, Sweden, Denmark, Spain, France.....
Why don't they play concerts in these countries, when was the last time they played Canada.... My point is FM is wel known band all over the world, they can play everywhere so why not in more countries. Tell me why...

It's all about the money...last time in 2004, the Dutch subsidary of Live Nation (Mojo) didn't want to to take the risk of hiring a large concert hall, while SYW hardly selled any copie in Holland....so FM only played Ireland, UK and Germany that time. Back in 1990 they did several more shows though..but hey..that was almost 20 years ago...

The "Electric Picnic" Lineup is to announced today between 5 and 6pm. Fleetwood Mac have been strongly tipped to headline it all along.
However I wont be holding my breath. I think news about it wouldd have leaked out somewhere by now.

Plus Didnt Stevie do a radio show recently and she never confirmed anything about coming to Ireland or Uk. So I am not so sure yet.
Anyway in two hours I will know one way or another.

Come on Fleetwood Mac Please be on the Line up !!!!!!!

Tickets to the 3 day event are roughly 240euros plus you would likely need to hire a camper van too.
YES ITS WORTH IT !!!! the Electric Picnic is class.

They're not doing it. Bastards.

gold_dust 04-15-2009 11:30 AM

^^ Well, I wasn't holding much hope that they'd do it.

What will totally peeve me off is if they definately don't come to Europe because they never had any intention of doing so - even when Mick said on live British TV that they would come over.
