"Soundstage Sessions" Billboard Chart Debut Predictions

What is your prediction for the debut position of the "Soundstage Sessions" CD on next week's Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart? As a frame of reference, the No. 10 album this week sold 41,000 copies. The No. 20 album sold 26,000 copies. Also keep in mind that this probably includes all of the presales, as well as the 500+ copies she sold at the Union Square Barnes & Noble.

louielouie2000 04-03-2009 11:08 AM

I can't imagine it breaking the top 25. Normally I gobble up everything she and the Mac releases... but I don't think I'll be purchasing this. We've already got like 400 rehashes of Rumours and Bella Donna... I sure as hell don't need another :sorry: .

Ummm, there's only one song from Belladonna and none from Rumours.

Stand Back - The Wild Heart
Crash Into Me - NEW
Sara - Tusk
If Anyone Falls - The Wild Heart
Landslide - The White Album
How Still My Love - Belladonna
Circle Dance - NEW
Fall From Grace - Trouble in Shangri-La
Sorcerer - Trouble in Shangri-La
Beauty and the Beast - The Wild Heart

It will be interesting to see if the BN signing makes a difference. We can compare it to CV.

THANK YOU FOR POINTING THAT OUT
. Good lord, AND i dont believe there are "re-hashes" of Bella Donna. And unless you've already ruined it for yourself by collecting a gagillion crappy sounding bootlegs. These are all a delight to have in such amazing sound quality.

I'm not sure if CV is an accurate bellweather:

-Music sales are way down vs. two years ago.
-SS is actually a completely new recording vs. a compilation.
-People may opt to buy the DVD instead of the CD under the false assumption that they are both one and the same.
-The tracklisting of Soundstage is lacking a lot of big hits or well-known songs.
-CV sold as well as it did due to the pent up demand for the official music videos.

I think Stevie should have released the audio CD first and then released the DVD about 3 months later. By releasing both at the same time, I think she is cannibalizing her own sales.

And I do think the B&N signing may have bumped her up at least 2 - 5 positions on the chart- every little bit counts these days.

What I meant is the last thing we need is another packaged career retrospective. It's just absurd for Stevie to have only put out 6 solo albums, but have 2 greatest hits AND a box set, and now a live compilation which is essentially a combo of those 3. Let's get some NEW stuff already!! I can only listen to so many versions of Landslide before hitting the nuthouse...

It is.

However, I am a little sick of it and TISL after hearing for like 7 hours straight last Tues. I remarked at the event that I now realize how my friends feel when they come to my house

I KNOW! OR ride along in the car!:wavey: I will do what i inevitably always do, listen to the album to the point of exhaustion, THEN pick out my favorites and incorporate them into YET ONE MORE Stevie Nicks "My favorites mix" compilation CD. where Sara or Circle dance will flow nicely into Thrown Down, then sege into planets of the universe or Sister Honey!

It doesn't qualify as a compilation album because these are all new recordings, and except for like 2 songs, there's not really any "hits" on the album.

It will be in Top 150.

MacMan 04-03-2009 08:10 PM

I have no idea what this CD is going to do... I chose top 20, just cause sales are so low for cds, that's it's entirely possible... I can't really look at it objectively at the moment and gauge it - I've been hearing it for so long now.... I think the DVD will do really well on whatever chart they have for DVD's.

Has anyone that has bought from the stores - seen the DVD/CD version that Warner was selling directly? It's packaged as if it were to be sold in a store with the security thing on top, you know that really tough security tape on one end underneath the wrap.... I'm just curious if that version has made it's way out to the stores or if it's just the separate CD and DVD.

Jondalar 04-03-2009 08:12 PM

The DVD is charting better than the album. Trouble in Shangri La was number for like 3 weeks on Amazon and it only hit number 5. Soundstage Sessions isn't even in the top 20. It's going to be about 100 or lower I think.

Her chance of going gold is the DVD. She only needs to sale 50,000 dvds to do that. Live in Boston DVD did better than Say You Will cd too.

Unfortunately for Stevie many places are only carrying one copy of her DVD. Plus, the promotion is particulary bad for this.

I think the DVD deserves to go Gold. She did a really good job with this.

How do you know this?

Jondalar 04-03-2009 08:19 PM

Go to Amazon.com and see how it is doing? Not very well, and amazon is really good indicator.

No, it's not...i don't know where you're getting that idea from...there's a dozen different places to buy an album.

LukeA 04-03-2009 08:22 PM

It'll come in between 40-50- it doesn't take much to get there most weeks.

Jondalar 04-03-2009 08:26 PM

it's a huge indicator, I've paid attention to it for years, the live album will probably sell around 15,000 the first week AT MOST and maybe 100,000 overall at most. I hope she does that well with it. (A lot of people are sick of her compilations and her aging voice and aren't buying it. However, they still want to see her in concert.) I think Stevie already knows this. Fleetwood Mac's Live in Boston DVD went platinum, Say You Will the album only went gold.

In case you're unaware, a CD has to scan 500K copies to be certified Gold by the RIAA, while a DVD only has to scan 100K to be certified Platinum.

I'm very aware of that. DVDs are also more expensive. Less people buy music DVDs. That's what's really troubling. Her DVD is outselling the CD.

However, A DVD only has to sell 50K to go gold. That is her hope: the DVD. The CD seems like an afterthought to me.

I respectfully disagree. She has done loads of press and they are spending money on ads in major markets. I personally think she should have done Letterman and The View as those are WAY more major than the Fallon show.

For the life of me I will never understand the bookings they do. I get there are scheduling considerations, but they should have thought ahead two months ago and gotten the bookings.

But, people said SYW was poorly marketed when all the evidence was to the contrary (AOL sessions, media, press, etc.)

Completely agree. This package has been promoted extraordinarily well, as was SYW.

Some fans are simply impossible to please- like the geniuses who, say, claim a concert wasn't promoted adequately and, when pressed for suggestions, come up with a marketing plan that roughly costs 10X the gross potential of said concert.

RockALittle250 04-03-2009 08:41 PM

BTW, i'm calling #20-25. She would have to sell between 20-24K copies, and i think she's capable. That would mean her selling 10K less than she did of CV (which sold 34K and was #21 in its debut). She could end up charting in the same position even selling a significantly less amount of albums because of the current state of overall album sales.

She's not singing on any of the interviews and the interviews are really short.

The problem with SYW is that MTV is not going to play a Fleetwood Mac video, and they refused to go country like the Eagles and everyone else who wants to sale records.

Yes, Fleetwood Mac totally blew it by not selling out and "go country"- they would have saled twice as many copies!

MacMan 04-03-2009 08:47 PM

Has anyone seen the TV commercials advertising this? And I read there was a infomercial... But they could have just meant a commercial.

She has no band with her. I suppose she could have gotten a new guitarist and done Landslide, but, that would require rehearsal time, etc. Any other song pretty much requires a full on band. So, I see why she is not singing.

Actually, MTV would have played it if there had been a hit - they always go to the money. There was no hit because the music was not to the public's liking. But, that is a sep. thing from a lacking of promotion. They promoted the hell out of SYW.

Interestingly, I wounder of FM payed for any of this promotion. I say this because La Nicks is heavily promoting the current and ongoing FM tour in this press junket. I tend to doubt they are, but, she could haved asked for it and been correct.

Jondalar 04-03-2009 08:54 PM

I don't think SYW was managements fault. It was Stevies and Fleetwood Macs. I think a lot of people didn't like TISL and it did not help SYW. The album didn't gain her many NEW fans. Fleetwood Mac didn't do a video for it either or try to market it to country stations that like Fleetwood Mac.

Rock has been dead since about 2000. These bands need away to stay in the publics mind, especially old bands. The Eagles have succeeded but Fleetwood Mac has not.

strandinthewind 04-03-2009 08:56 PM

^^^

FM did an entire concert set for the AOL sessions and then released the songs SYW and Peacekeeper as videos

The problems were IMO, they sounded like crap live on several high profile public shows, like Leno and GMA (or was it Today?) .

I also disagree with you and think TISL was very well received and got her many new fans. i base this on my concert experiences, which were filled with new fans and the critics warm reception of TISL.

It got good reviews from critics, especially Rolling Stone becuase of The Dance. Rolling Stone only gave Bella Donna 3 stars in 1981 and gave TISL 3.5. You would have to be an idiot to think that TISL is anywhere near as good as Bella Donna. They did it because everyone realized her appeal and longevity and Sheryl Crow was on the album.

Her new fans were from the Dance. Because MTV played the hell out of the videos and it sold well. She did not have a hit off that album and many were disappointed. We all wanted her to pull a Tina Turner and she did not.

And, she had a No. 1 hit off of it in the dance world.

In the end, unless FM or La Nicks solo has a major hit, the records will sell about where they are and they will make their money from touring, which is well received for the most part. But, the vast majority want the hits from Mirage back. Such is life.
