Anyone care to share the answer, please? I can't be bothered to download and listen.
Need the straight dope.

Thank you MacMan. Here's most of what Stevie said, for those that can't download it:

. . . we ran into a ‘whole lotta trouble’ with the French “copyright people” on the movie of Beauty & the Beast—and taking their score off to put my score on. (which we thought we had gotten permission from the American people—and then to find out when back to get international permission—we were slammed in the alley way for it & told that we could not even put it on the DVD.) So we have been fighting to try to figure out some way to get them to let us do it. And Jean Cocteau family Okayed it--but French copyright law refuses us. So it’s not on the DVD because of that. And it’s, like, horrible because I did that song, you know, for three years and it was the last song in my set, with that movie up behind us.

Stevie couldn't get it on the DVD but her song, itself, is on the CD.

She should have just refilmed the song without running the movie in the background. Who the hell needs that? Cocteau doesn't deserve to be used as a backdrop.

And BATB doesn't deserve to have that as a background. Both the song and the movie were ruined.

But from what I'd read in reviews, I thought she did it both ways. With and without the movie, just to be safe.

Honestly I am just so, SO pissed off that Beauty and the Beast was not included in the DVD. It really makes the concert feel so incomplete and unfinished. It's the greatest disappointment of this whole new thing Stevie's doing.

Tango 04-02-2009 01:35 PM

uh-oh . . . I feel a new chapter coming up:

I completely agree. I know some really don't like BATB, but it could possibly be my FAVORITE Stevie song, and I think it really feels incomplete too. I don't like the show ending with Rock n Roll..Oh well.

Thanks Macman for posting that. The million dollar question has been answered, although we pretty well already knew the answer. What a shame though :distress:. I got my soundstage in the mail today too and the first thing I did was pop the cd in and only listened to BATB, and cried. It is so unbelievably beautiful. I am so dissapointed that it is not on the dvd. I remember that very first night in Vegas that she performed it and how exquisite it was. Everytime I listen to the cd, I close my eyes and imagine that wonderful night at Caesars. I haven't watched the dvd yet, so that dissapointment is yet to come. I do feel alittle bit better knowing how bad Stevie wanted it on there too.

Michele

you're correct. Someone posted here not too long saying that she did film it with and without the film so I don't understand. However, I trust that Stevie really wanted it to be on the DVD so I believe that there was no way around it. It still SUCKS, though!! I love that song

GoldDustOrphan 04-02-2009 07:36 PM

I just sent my thank you card to the French. I'm holding the whole country responsible.

If their language didn't have the same effect on me that it had on Gomez Addams, I might be pretty angry at the French right now!
