What one household noise annoys you the most?
 

Whenever I open the refridgerator and the motor comes on I always get annoyed. Or if I'm sitting in the next room watching TV and the fridge motor comes on, well that annoys me too.
How about you? What household sound annoys you?

The microwave when it finishes. I always run to open it before it beeps.

when people don't shut off the faucet & i can hear drip, drip, drip~

The phone ringing or the toilet running

Ditto to what Janet said about the microwave, mine is a cheapie from Target and it makes an exceptionally loud beep.

Also-

the shriek of a whistling teapot

the sound a glass makes when you put it in the kitchen sink and there is either sand or scouring powder residue in there. (shudder)

a blender (after 60 years of making blenders, they can't make a quiet one??)

the loud noise of the exhaust hood over the stove while you are frying

the ear-splitting crackle of a potatoe chip bag being molested at 3:00 am while everyone is tryng to sleep

the dog scratching scratching or licking at 3:00 am and making their ID and vaccination tags jingle

someone other than yourself making loud pooping noises in the bathroom

The sound of clingy silverwear!!!

OMG - me too. I HATE that noise.

That annoying music you get when windows XP starts up, especially annoying if I didn't turn the speakers down from blasting out some music the day before...

Our vacuum. It must be the loudest in the world.

telephone. it alway rings at bad times also bad news coming from the other end.noisy neigbors above me. they talk loud,walk loud.and play their crap music loud.

The standard alarm clock beep-beep-beep sound.

I hate it so bad that if I even hear it on TV when I am wide awake, I am instantly pissed off like it woke me up or something. Hates it forever.

Oh this is just me all over.
Especially happens late at night when I've just put my little girl to bed and then go to the laptop and BAMMMM.. shes up like a shot..:laugh:

Hate hate hate the sound of the radio and tv going at the same time. Goes straight through my head! grrr..

Also cannot stand the sound of people brushing their teeth. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for oral hygiene, I just dont want to hear it..:P

:lol: that cracked me up. They are so damn loud when you're trying to be quiet, like in class or a meeting or movie or something!

Not crazy about the dryer BUZZZZZ.

These are funny and are making me laugh. The potato chip one is particularly funny.

This isn't really a household noise, well I guess it is- but, I hate the sound of a TV playing when I'm trying to sleep. Even if it's in another room- I hate it.

Knocks to the front door after dark...Obviously!

Otherwise just the sound of stuff being broken by the C.A.T. organization ("Cats Are Terrorists") at night is the #2 on my list

aerator on my aquarium...usually muffled with music, etc but when the room falls silent that sound remains...gurgling...ugh so annoying.

Actually in our house the four member C.A.T organisation are more likely to settle internal squabbles in the middle of the night. Which is a pretty annoying noise in itself especially if it is just outside of the bedroom!

Oh to get adult a bit, our female dog also sits outside of our door and well, to put it politely seeks to self-pleasure. EVERY DAMN NIGHT - SEVERAL TIMES! Its like having a horny teenager in the next room.

You can imagine our vet's embarrassment when she explained the problem to me! Oh and our embarrassment when people come over. We try to pretend it is a skin allergy!

The crackling noise the ionic air filter makes when it has lots of dust in it.

Also, screaming kids in the grocery store! (I know that isn't considered household, but it is so annoying!)

the one household noise I find annoying at your house? crickets. :laugh: oh, and when tommy does that telemarketer voice... :laugh:

Agreed. Vaccuums are the worst. I can't be around when my mom vaccuums, it actually hurts my ears.

I also hate our telephone.

The sound of the TV when my mom can't shut it off right [but the cable is off]

When "certain people" scrape a fork against a plate.
To me it sounds like someone's scraping nails down a blackboard! :blob1: ;)

Also, there's this metal thing hanging down by the window right next to where I sleep, and when there's a little breeze it keeps bumping against the window, making an annoying noise. Of course, that's my fault 'cause I just haven't bothered to fix it yet! :D

Besides the humm of the fridge I am also annoyed by my stove top when I first turn it on. It's a gas stove and it makes an annoying clicking sound as it's lighting. It drives me nuts. Someone also mentioned the sound of the microwave when it is finished. That drives me nuts too. And my washing machine, when finished with its wash will buzz loudly for 15 minutes(every 45 seconds) until you turn it off.(Very annoying but it's actually a good thing because my high efficiency washer is so quiet I'd never know the wash was done if it didn't buzz!)

This will make me sound impossibly picky, but I really can sense the electrical hum of a whole house. I notice that when I stay in a cabin without electricity I feel so relaxed...ahhhhhhhh.

Beyond that impossible requirement of no electricity, the hum of the refridge is an annoyance. All house sounds are really a drag when you are trying to record, but otherwise I like to use the Tappit bros. (Click and Clack) trick: turn the radio up!

Our washing machine during the spin cycle. We've had it repaired twice and it still makes too much racket. We have neighbors in next townhouse, so I have to do my laundry the minute they leave for work so it doesn't bother them.

and if I don't get to it within maybe...10 seconds, it beeps again.
like I'm going to forget that I've made food. I'm not that old yet! :laugh:

Is it a dancer? Then it's just off balance. This can be fixed easily by either moving it closer to the wall or putting a cushion between the appliance and the object it's bumping into.

I hate to hear the dryer or dishwasher running. That drives me nuts. The dogs nails on my wood floors drives me crazy too.

We don't know what is causing the noise? It doesn't move around since the washer and dryer are in a small space in their own laundry room. The 'shocks" were replaced very recently. It's still NOISY during the spin cycle even though I am careful not to overload it. My hubby has checked the barrel inside. We replaced water hose too. It works great but the noise is a little louder than it use to be. Our neighbor's machine does the exact same thing even though they have had their machine checked too. Maybe, its time to buy a new washer??
