Triad, and other books that inspired Stevie
I've never read Triad, but I think I'm going to buy a copy. It sounds really interesting; just the sort of thing I like! Anyway, are there any other books that we know of that have inspired Stevie?

i loved triad~

I like Triad... it's a little odd, not what I was expecting. All those horrible colors that woman talks about painting her house... blech! It's a good little read though... I need to dig it back out! I still need to track down the Mabinogian, and learn more about the real Rhiannon and other Welsh goddesses Stevie is so enamored with.

Triad is one of those books I couldn't put down. I read it ~back to front~ (as Stevie would say). it was a very light read.
I have Ceremony of the Innocent that I've been trying to get around to reading for a few years but never seem to. |

Nathaniel Hawthorne's Rappaccini's Daughter is what Running through the Garden is based on.

I own Triad and Ceremony of the Innocent. Can't get around to Ceremony but I consider Triad to be one of my favorite books now. It was a great quick read.

Sometime ago I heard that Stevie was reading the Wheel of Fortune by Susan Howatch - not sure if it inspired her but its a good read.
I tried to read the Mabinogion by Evangeline Walton and did read some of it but found it hard going. |
Isn't Triad out of print? Where did y`all get it? I would love to read it. Even if it's not good... but it sounds interesting.

I bought Triad from eBay for 99p. It's such a great book - I read it in a day.
I really liked the Mabinogian. I had already a copy of the Song of Rhiannon book, but wanted the full set, and am so glad I did get it. I loved all of it. |
i never realized that Rhiannon was such a wicked little girl. "Wouldn't you love to love her?" HELL NO! SHE'S A BRAT! LOL!

Besides 'Triad', there a lot of Oscar Wilde stories/poems, some Poe, and I ran across a book about six months ago titled "Bellefleur" by Joyce Carol oates, which apparently inspired the title of the demo/outtake of the same name, and the first few lines of "Golden Braid"...("Though deep-set and somewhat shadowed..."). A very strange book...
In regards to "Ceremony of the Innocent", I've been wondering for some time now if that's where she got the name "Christian' for the demo of the same name. The main characters have a son by that name. Quote:

Thanks for the info! I'll check it out :D

I just got Triad in the mail yesterday. OMG ITS WEIRD. Yet strangely addicting. I've been reading it during all of my possible spare time. My mom was like "WTF are you reading?" (Well, she used different word choice " and I was like "...hmmmm.... I'm really not sure."
Now I'm sad. THIS is what I was named after? I picture Stevie's Rhiannon as beautiful and flighty and mysterious... not as a bitch from the freezer! I love the doggy Lance though. :) Not sure why. He just rocks. |

When I first read Triad, I was the same. I read it in a day, and just though, 'WTF - this is who Stevie named her song after?', but the reason why the characters are called Branwen and Rhiannon plays on the whole Welsh mythology thing. Little tidbits are used throughout the story about the mythology. I think, to be honest, she took Rhiannon from Triad, and then realised the Rhiannon from the Mabinogion is so much more better, and tried to downplay her role in Triad. When I read the Evangeline Walton version of the Mabinogion, I totally saw the Rhiannon Stevie sings about, but the truth is, without Triad, they'd be no Rhiannon at all. She shouldn't downplay the book's role in her life. |
