The Mac to play Ireland's Electric Picnic

I got a call from a friend today to say that in an Irish Times article today, the Mac are set to be among the main acts at the Electric Picnic festival this year...

I think I need to go and lie down for a while....!! :] :]

Yes, there are. ... now, if they could make it to Germany too I'd be even happier. Ireland is pretty good though.

BellaDonna93 03-20-2009 12:59 PM

Soon it's Sweden....I HOPE!!!! :)

DigYourGrave 03-20-2009 01:25 PM

THIS IS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Peestie 03-20-2009 01:30 PM

I hope they do some normal tour dates as well because the tickets are pretty pricey...

Madness Fades 03-20-2009 01:36 PM

OMG I dont believe it. That would be perfect. Its all only rumours now.

How pricey????

€199 last year.

Likely to go up to €220 this year.:distress:

This is alot. Especially if you're only going to see one band. I never really like the EP line up either so it seems like Fleetwood Mac are the only band I'll be going to see. Might get a family ticket and take my daughter and nephew. This news has put me in such a good mood. However, there has been nothing formally realeased by Aiken Pro. yet..

suzyvermoesen 03-20-2009 02:49 PM

;)So this is beginning of september, and Glastonbury (if true) is end of june.
That leaves 2 whole months to tour the rest of Europe :]
All i'm hoping is that they will play other venues than just festivals !
I wish they would announce those European dates and put us out of our misery

DigYourGrave 03-20-2009 02:54 PM

Glasto isn't gonna happen I think.

Their line-up is pretty much full and there isnt a slot big enough to slide in the Mac, unfortunately..

shackin'up 03-20-2009 02:57 PM

If this is september, june in Glasto seems unlogical.

trackaghost 03-20-2009 02:58 PM

Wow it's looking more and more likely that they are doing the European festival circuit.

Actually most of the acts haven't been officially announced yet (only Neil Young, Springsteen, Franz Ferdinand, Blur and Fleet Foxes have been announced by the organisers). I don't know, I think it might happen.

jedw 03-20-2009 04:43 PM

As I sit here listening to a vinyl copy or Rumours at what is probably neighbour annoyingly loud Db levels, I am praying that when UK dates ARE actually announced that i can afford the ticket price.
:D lucky irish,
I'm not a festival goer type so if the Mac played Glastonbury I'd be watching on TV lol.
Hoping for a manchester gig - nearest to me - But id be willing to travel to London if need be.

MacMan 03-20-2009 05:47 PM

Yeah, I can't see them going all that way and restricting themselves to festivals only... There's too many people in the urban centres that would be marginalized... They have to play the cities.

Sahara 03-20-2009 06:58 PM

I'm not a great festival-goer so I'm hoping this won't be their only Irish excursion.... How long a set will they play at a festival, maybe an hour? Not a full-length concert I imagine? (Correct me if I'm wrong!)

But still, this has put me on such a high and it gives us real hope that they'll do a full-blown Europe tour in the next year.

Peestie and MadnessFades, I thought of you guys in particular the second I heard! I hope this means we might finally meet? :wavey:

danax6 03-20-2009 07:11 PM

200 euro for a ticket? Hell no.

But it's good news for Europeans, nonetheless.

How come you're not gonna go, Vanessa? I would have thought you'd be there in a heartbeat. You CAN'T miss the Mighty Mac playing so near to you!!

Nope, you are correct and right. The longest festival appearance Ive ever seen at an Irish fest was 3 years ago when The Who played for over 90 minutes, and even that was pushing it big time.:p

I'm quite hopeful they'll play the 02 in Dublin and the Odyssey in Belfast at least, if they di venture around these parts. Can't see them doubling up in Dublin though like they did for the SYW tour.. But ya never know! ;)

Well, they sold out the Point both nights last time, but with the new design of the o2 and its larger capacity that might not be the case
I loved the Point venue, I really hope they haven't messed it up in this renovation!

They were here in November 2003, and Stevie's been here solo.
I'm seriously excited. Electric Picnic isn't the usual mental festival vibe. It's much more peaceful, surrounded by woodland. Truly magical

Sahara-Unfortunately, the 02 has changed the beloved Point quite dramtically. The sound quality isnt as good as it was. I know that's to be expected with a much bigger venue, but I've heard reports that if you are unlucky enough to be far down the back, then it's a strain to find out what songs are being sung, especially quiet ones. :(.. Gah, I loved the Point aswell. Hmm, maybe they'd chance the RDS?

I don't think I can justify spending 200 Euro for about an hour of music (as much as I'd love to). If they play any other Irish dates then I'll be there but at the minute it's not looking like I'll be going to see them at EP. I guess I could have a change of heart but it's not looking likely :sorry:

I've been to the Odyssey. Don't they have a smaller theater type hall in the same complex? Either way it's a beautiful venue.

Been there as well. Where would they play though? Maybe I'll have to head over if they do both Dublin and Belfast.

Oh yes.. The Odyssey is my local ;) I've seen some of my favourite gigs there.
Hmm, I can see them giving both Belfast and Dublin a whirl. But I aint getting my hopes up. Especially if they're also playing EP. We can't be greedy now, they mightn't come at all!

really? woah i must have some selective amnesia with those dates
maybe i just didn't hear anything about it
i know i saw the pics from the UK show :D

hmmm woodlands
i bet that must set the mood

ARLENE........minus your gross humidity, the Woodlands was my fave venue in my Mac ventures [not Stevie]. and the crowd. i bet it would have been way awesome in winter

Ack! I'm really sorry to hear that. :( The Point was so perfect as far as I was concerned, the acoustics were pretty damn good everywhere and it felt so intimate. The place itself had so much charm and history to it, and now that it's been taken over by a company like o2... it's just lost something if you ask me. :(

From Bray People, On The Beat:http://www.braypeople.ie/entertainme...t-1691613.html

March 30, 2009

Boutique festival ELECTRIC PICNIC, in Stradbally, Co. Laois on September 4,5 and 6, has changed personnel behind the scenes but still promises to deliver a unique festival experience at the tail end of the summer. Early-bird tickets for the Stradbally festival were released - and snapped up - last October and the remainder of the tickets go on sale this month. The Electric Picnic line-up will also be revealed shortly, but Fleetwood Mac, Fleet Foxes and Green Day are among the hotly-tipped to appear.

DigYourGrave 04-04-2009 07:02 AM

^^^ I'm very impressed that a tiny town like Bray has its own newspaper site online. Even more impressed that you tracked it down Michelle.

Thanks for the update. I await the definition of "shortly".. Typical Irish..:p

DigYourGrave 04-15-2009 11:36 AM

Line-up just announced,

not a sniff of the Mac. Not even close:(

Can't say I'm not shocked.
