Article: Fleetwood Mac Plans New Album

Fleetwood Mac plans new album
By WENN.com

Rock legends Fleetwood Mac are planning to follow their comeback tour with a brand new album.

The band kicked off Unleashed - their first tour in five years - in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania last week.

And drummer Mick Fleetwood insists they're not bidding farewell to fans just yet - they intend to head straight from the stage to the recording studio this autumn.

He reveals, "I have three hairs left. If they don't all fall out following the tour, we've talked about recording again. I don't think we want to just sit around for another five years. We're all healthy, we still have loads of energy. Plus, some of us still have mortgages to pay."

The group were famous hellraisers during their Sixties heyday, and their history is littered with tales of alcohol and drug abuse - but Fleetwood insists this tour is tame in comparison to previous adventures, because the bandmembers are all too old to party hard.

He adds, "The days of putting up silver paper over the windows to keep the sunlight out are well and truly over. There's not much 'partaying' (sic) anymore. We still have fun... sitting around sharing old war stories but nothing crazy. Most of us are in our 60s with kids."

I speak for probably most everyone here- I would LOOOVE a new materials album from these guys, but I'll believe it when I see it.

This autumn? That hasn't been mentioned in any other article, and this article appears to be simply a rehash of other articles. I suspect that the autumn date was kinda pulled out of the author's behind. (*)

This is exciting news!!:blob2: I hope they really do make a new record

Why not? Stevie's going to need that time just to catch up on her soaps after this tour.

Honestly though, I think all of this talk about them doing another album after the tour is just that - talk. Maybe they're feeling some guilt about touring for the money and they somehow need to justify their actions a bit, but I really don't believe anything is planned at this point. I do believe Mick's comments about needing to pay off their mortgages, though, so I wouldn't doubt that it will happen eventually. Maybe we'll see something released by the end of 2010, if they're really serious about doing it. It's possible.

I thought they were going to wait and see how the tour goes. Surely they haven't committed to an album after playing only 5 shows.

You echo my sentiments. Whoo!

Erin 03-09-2009 03:12 PM

I think if they do hire an outside producer, which has already been suggested by Lindsey, and set up a schedule of who's doing what when, it would probably keep the drama to a minimum. Frankly I'm always surprised the Stevie and Lindsey have the energy to argue anymore!

:blob1::blob2: I hope its not just talk and they really do make another cd!! ahhh that would be awesome!!

Putting out an album after touring... in this econonmy... in this industry.... no tour to support the music?

don't think that will pay the mortgage... unless they get a big advance from someone....

I would think they WOULD tour after the album's done...even if it's a short one (40 dates or so)...they've already got the "Wal-Mart distribution deal" in place (from what I read months ago); there's the "mortgage payments", the tour would just be to add to the kids' college funds.

How about the "Mick Fleetwood will grab you by the ankles and hang you upside down until your spare change falls out tour!"

Hawkeye 03-09-2009 05:49 PM

Maybe this tour is to gain funds to make the album.

PoetofRhiannon 03-09-2009 07:17 PM

When was this published?

desertangel 03-09-2009 07:18 PM

Let's hope so. I need an injection of new.

Yes, that's right. So far, it's just rumours. Just when I see a member telling directly they are at studios, I'll believe it

I have always thought they would do another album...i think stevie will do one too at some point....but i bet we will see this out quicker than SYW!

You know, if they're really serious about doing a new album, they could pump one out by the spring of 2010 - just in time for a summer tour. Of course, it's extremely doubtful they will tour 2 years in a row since that has not happened in over two decades. No, most likely it will take them a year, then followed by a tour in the summer of 2011. By then, they will all be in their mid 60s and it might very well be time for a farewell tour.

Why aren't you counting 2003 & 2004?

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I was referring to two different tours, not just touring in consecutive years. Last time would be '78 & '79 ('78 being off of Rumours, '79 off of Tusk).

What they say & what they actually do has typically been 2 very different things. Plus, it's very early in this tour - they could very well hate eachother within a few months. It would be great, but I hope people don't get their hopes up for a new album, then in a year or two if it doesn't happen, scream "but Mick said!"

I heard something about this too. Think it's substantiated? Or more of a "wouldn't it be a great idea if they made a deal like the Eagles?"

Well, admittedly Mick has not been one to drop too many whoppers in the past; it's not like he has been hyping a new album every time Lindsey entered the studio to work on his solo work. The last time Mick was touting a new FM album, lo and behold, we got one. I sincerely don't think Mick would be talking like this unless he really thought something was up.

I even think the latter guestimate is even too optimistic. I'm guessing they'll end up touring through the summer, then need their obligatory year plus off. Then they'll reconvene, and take another year plus to record an album. So we're looking at an earliest possible release date of summer 2012 for the album. But we all know how the band works, they'll fuss around, and it'll be at least spring 2013 before they put out an album, then tour that summer. That's still being pretty optimistic by Mac standards. I'm guessing they'll end up fighting on this tour, and it'll be longer than that (if at all) before we get one last album out of them.

Oh, I'm sure there's been talk. I'm sure they're tentatively planning. I don't think he's bull****ting. I'm taking it with a grain of salt - you never know what will happen in the future, esp. with this band.
