Fleetwood Mac audiences - stand or sit?

I'm trying to select tickets for my first ever FM concert, but I can't decide on whether to buy seats on the floor or in the stands.

What is the usual audience tendency, standing or sitting? I don't mind standing through a song here or there during a concert, but I really dislike having to stand for the whole two hours. If the audience sit a fair bit I will opt for the floor.

StandbackStevie 03-05-2009 05:28 AM

Usually everyone stands on the floor thru the whole show when I go i stand up no matter where I sit and dance and sing as well.

In the UK last time the audience on the floor were encouraged to stand for the whole show. In fact the ushers were letting the first few rows up to the front before the show had even started

I tried to stand when I saw Stevie in Vegas in 2001 and got all sorts of abuse from the people behind and stuff thrown at me

kennation 03-05-2009 07:02 AM

I stand. I like to dance and enjoy myself, but respectfully.

I've actually only been in floor seats for all the FM concerts and it was standing throughout. I think--maybe--during one or two songs, we sat in a couple venues, but that wasn't the norm.

I have friends who have been in other levels, off-the-floor, and sitting is more of an option there. On the floor, if you sit, you can't see much and you won't reallly have much luck asking anyone to sit.

Jen77 03-05-2009 09:06 AM

To be honest, unless you're in the first few rows...the crowd is lame and sits almost the whole show. That's what I've experienced anyways.

alexandmaddie 03-05-2009 09:24 AM

Everyone on main floor stood the entire 2 hours at the St. Paul concert on 3/3.

kak125 03-05-2009 09:34 AM

At the Pittsburgh show, I noticed everybody on the floor stood the entire time but everybody else was sitting. We had some friends that were up in the seats off the floor and they said that some lady stood up in front of them and then somebody got security to make her sit down. How crappy would that be? I couldnt imagine listening to Monday Morning sitting down. That would suck big time!

HejiraNYC 03-05-2009 09:53 AM

For every concert I've been to, people stood up except during the acoustic interlude- "Big Love," "Landslide," etc.

So what is the deal with people getting to stand at the stage? Is that just for the front row, or is it the first few rows?

Jen77 03-05-2009 11:56 AM

Myself and a friend flew cross country to see Stevie play in Vegas...and were told multiple times to sit down. We refused, so security moved us to a open area where we could stand and there wasn't anyone behind us.

The casual fans, IMO, are pretty lame. Sorry if that seems harsh!

That wasn't in 2001 was it? :p We flew to Vegas from the UK to see Stevie and the first night were hassled to sit down. Had all sorts of stuff thrown at us so we did sit.

The second night the seats were further back and right in front of the soundboard so we stood all night

lol, no it was in 2005...but seriously, the people behind us were not friendly at all. At first we were talking with them and they were surprised how young we were and blah, blah, blah, but once the show started...we stood. They didn't and it was just a mess. I think it was then and there that I decided I wouldn't be any more than a few rows from the stage.

Depend on the venue. They usually allow the first 2 or 3 rows up.

JbbyStew86 03-05-2009 02:36 PM

On opening night, most everyone on the floor was standing the majority of the show. I had seats two sections back, so we sat for the majority of the first set, then stood from Stand Back to the end of the show. Everyone was pretty cool about it.

I noticed most people sat @ the Vegas shows, must have been the intimate venue. A few songs got people up, like SB.

I would flip the FFFFF out! After those types of ticket prices one should be able to have a 2 minute lap dance... I say, "Be respectful, but sometimes....you gotta rip it!!!" (Ala The Chain St. Paul Clip...)

dude, enjoying one's self respectfully is no fun! When I saw Stevie in '05, I had a seat at the end of the row and the frickin' usher kept coming over to me and nudging me back into the row when my dancing became out of hand. Good times!!

Steve G 03-05-2009 08:41 PM

Thanks. I guess I will try to get tickets in the stands. For the price of seats at these concerts, I expect to use the seat, to be comfortable, and to see. Patrons standing in front of me and forcing me to stand - it makes me see red when patrons are so oblivious of the people behind them. I've seen others nearly get into fisticuffs over this very issue.

I remember the fleetwood Mac concert 1997, NYC, at Madison Square Garden didn't let you dance, I was at the upper seats. that was so uncool:mad:

Pretty much everyone on the floor stands. Last night in Chicago people sat for Big Love and Im So Afraid for part of the time. If you want to sit down i would buy tickets in the upper levels. To be honest you'll have so much fun you wont realize how long you will be standing for and after Im So Afraid they let the first two rows go to the stage. When I saw Fleetwood Mac in 2003 I was pretty much in the rafters and i stood to dance and sing and the lady behind me, grabbed and yanked my arm and yelled "I didn't spend $50 to stare at your ass!" I was so taken back that she grabbed me. So i guess im saying if you want sit at all , get tickets for the upper levels. Sorry this is kind of a long post. I tend to babble and im still on a "Stevie/Fleetwood Mac high" from last night. WOOHOO!!!!

Now that I don't understand. What happened, in her mind, that she thought it was ok to grab you? That does NOT fly with me. We may have had a mess out of that situation! I woulda told security that the woman grabbed me, and then smiled as she was escorted away. Seriously, that is not acceptable. You are a better gal than I to have tolerated such behavior. Kudos to you.

I have a feeling I will get thrown out of the arena.

I don't mean to belittle anyone but It's a freaking ROCK!! concert, I anticipate having to stand.

When I went to see Genesis in 2007, I actually moved one row back to the rear of our section so that I could air drum to my hearts content without disturbing anyone.

All our section were standing at The Police finale at MSG even when the B-52's were on. :blob2:

I understand your position and I would air drum with you... totally. As long as I wasn't in anyone's way or prohibiting them from enjoying themselves. Here is the rub: doesn't being forced to set down prohibit you from enjoying yourself? Here is my plan: to get the MOST amount of energy exspended as possible without being obnoxious... I just don't want to upset anyone or make their experience bad.

You know, the fatigue quantity has nothing to do with my view on standing. I'm not afraid of getting tired. I mind standers because when you sit everyone has a level playing field more or less. When you stand, the taller people obscure your vision and people don't tend to stand in a stationary manner. They move around and you have to keep constantly moving around to maintain your line of sight. Many times that's a losing effort, no matter how much you move and crane. I'm not short either and yet I have a problem.

So, I prefer that everyone sits because it tends to give everyone a fair shot. That said, I did stand for the entire show in Pittsburgh and I never had a problem seeing. That was because the stage was so high, that the people standing could never block my view of the performers, who were elevated. When the stage is lower, it's a problem.

I had to sit. I love to stand. I stood for all of Lindsey in October (no choice, though) and for all of Tom Petty. I first started this love back at my first Lindsey concert when everybody stood for Big Love. Such a good show. Anyway, I was dying inside because the way we were seated if I stood, I would be blocking the view of the people behind me, and I would hate to be rude. Most everyone else in the Arena sat, but the floor people stood.

Edgeof27 03-06-2009 11:12 PM

Sit or Stand; Rock Concert or Opera......

"....please stand....."

people have you not seen the videos from the opening night,

everyone in front of the stage was standing,

it looked like all of the fans with floor seats were standing,

this is a "Rock Concert", not a "night at the Opera",

if you want to sit, then chose seats in the stands,

if you want to stand, then chose seats on the floor,

any concert I have been to, you stand if you want to "rock",

sorry but if you want to sit in the front row, you should not be there,

g....

Michele, why do you insist on using my name? (joke)

Most of the shows I've attended have been a good mixture of
both sitting and standing. I agree with Michele that it's a little
unfair to the shorter people (which I'm not). But I would imagine
that the Mac feeds off of the crowd response, so get your a$$'s
out of the seats and get your hands in the air. Like someone said
earlier, IT'S A ROCK CONCERT.

wow rough crowd in vegas , i would think usually everyone is pretty cool at her shows and FM shows too i have been going to stevie nicks and fleetwood mac concerts since 1986 and never had a bad experience at a show with other fans at all and pretty much everyone is standing all around the whole time except for songs like landslide, beauty and the beast and has anyone ever written anything for you. i am probably going to sit thru most of the show on this tour cause to were my seats are in the top section directly across from the stage and I am sure most people will be sitting but there is huge screens all around so if other people are standing you still can see the show from the screens

i saw the mac in vegas oct '03~ we had terrible seats, but the arena didn't fill & they were encouraging us to move forward~ security even lent me a hand jumping the railing to get down to the 2nd row~ this was at the mgm & everyone was awesome as hell~ we stood all night~ they didn't let us take pics tho~ but i had seen them 8 days before & had gotten tons of pic, so i was too disappointed~

kennation 03-07-2009 08:39 AM

This is obviously one of those threads that will never be resolved. You enjoy things your way, and I enjoy things in my own way... So, there will never be consences of people saying, "You are right! I will sit here and stand there! Thank you for changing my ways!" That is never gonna happen. This is a dead end thread. We have all stated our opinions. There is obviously a difference. Let us celebrate those differences and move on.
