2009 Tour Opening Song

What do you think about the opening song on the tour?

Lori40 03-04-2009 05:11 PM

I saw it last night, and I loved it. I think most everyone there did too.

Musicman408 03-04-2009 05:17 PM

I think The Chain's got a cool vibe which leads itself to being a stellar opener.

Its about time "Monday Morning" became the setlist opener- especially after Lindsey lied (or bowed to the pressure that was the status quo) and said it would be the opener for the SYW tour in numerous pre-tour interviews.

I chose The Chain, not for the reasons in the poll, just because it's one of the best rock n roll songs ever, period. It just sets the vibe for the evening, imo.

I'm a big believer in the song they actually use being the right song. It's art and it's part of the process.

Having said that, I was THRILLED with Monday Morning as the opener. Gives you the reason to stand (which you seem to need at modern-day concerts if you're not in front floor seats.)

I think MM is perfect!! They really needed a new opener and MM puts a fresh spin on things. Love it!!

Sidenote: I have a video boot of a FM show, can't recall which tour but there's this dude in the audience who keeps screaming "Monday Morning" at the top of his lungs. Of course, they didn't play it so I really hope he's going to see them this time around.

Monday Morning. Although GYOW as an opener is a fab idea too.

Monday Morning! I love that song and it makes a good opener.

MM, it's fun , upbeat and goes correctly with the chronological order. White album first:p

I thought he said it was going to be Eyes of the World? At the dress rehearsal they DID open with Eyes, but they must have changed it come show time. Plus, they tried rehearsing Monday Morning for the second leg of the SYW tour and they didn't like the way it sounded.

By the way, I chose Monday Morning...I just saw the video of it from last night...love it!

Agreed! I too chose The Chain. It's a great opener, and I've always loved the guitar solo.

I'm really glad they didn't go with The Chain as an opener. They started doing that on the Behind The Mask tour, then on the Dance tour, and then again on the Say You Will tour. Enough already...finally!

Even as the second song, followed by Dreams, it is a little redundant. I recall on the Tusk tour, it was the second song in the set. Unfortunately it was played very slow and dirge-like, and it killed the energy built up from the opener, Say You Love Me.

I wish they would slot it towards the end of the set, as an encore, like they did on the Rumours tour.

Actually didn't The Chain move to opening status only starting with The Dance? Well, maybe they opened with The Chain for the '94/'95 shows but I'm not positive there? Anyway, it's been near the beginning since what, '78, '79?

I'm pretty sure the 1990 tour opened with SYLM and then The Chain for the first shows and then In the Back of My Mind/The Chain for the later shows.

I like the idea of using it as the first song of the encore. I think that's the best spot. It's a great opener but it can get repetitive. When I saw the show Sunday night I really loved Monday Morning as the opener. Awesome way to start the show.

I believe that at some point later in the Behind The Mask tour, they entirely dropped In The Back of My Mind. I like the song, but it sucked for an opener.

I like the idea of Monday Morning as the opener, since it is the first song on both Fleetwood Mac, and The Very Best of.

But I also really like the beat of The Chain as the first sound you hear.

TrueFaith77 03-05-2009 07:52 AM

"Monday Morning"!

With the current setlist, the show opens with the first song on the first album of the B/N line-up and it ends with the last "hit" -- 1997's "Silver Springs"!

Perfect.

StreetAngel86 03-05-2009 08:00 AM

i voted for The Chain
because i like how it meshes as an opening track for the Mac and Stevie uses Outside the Rain
also, i suppose it's a staple, and i'm used to it and i liiiiiiiiike it

Monday Morning, from what i've heard this week
sounds pretty good too tho

GYOW should be the closer
WOAH everyone would be so pumped
