Grammy's

Hey Everyone..

Since I didn't see any threads started for last night's Grammy's- I was just wanting to find out if anyone got to watch them, and what did you think?? I saw that Robert Plant and Allison Kraus walked away with what 5 awards? Pretty cool!! :blob2:

MacMan 02-09-2009 05:56 PM

A few notes about the Grammys:

1. I'm a huge U2 fan, but they were kind of boring.

2. What was Whitney on??

3. Coldplay rocks.

4. Miley Cyrus trying to be country doesn't work. Then again, Miley Cyrus trying to be anything resembling a musician doesn't work.

5. Do you think Miley Cyrus knows who Robert Plant is?

6. Before last night, I had never heard a Jonas Brothers song completely before. I will never hear another one after last night. I wish I could get those five minutes back.

7. Katy Perry + choreography = awkward. Can she not move with the music?

8. Kanye West looks like Tito Jackson.

9. Who is Jazmine Sullivan?

10. MIA pregnant and performing (on her due date nonetheless)?! Incredible.

GODDESS6 02-09-2009 06:15 PM

my grammy news is that chris brown was arrested for allegedly physically attacking his girlriend rihanna, culminating in both of them being absent from performing on the show~

early reports state she has contusions & bite marks, i heard some of the bite marks are on her face~

this is just sad~ chris brown seems to be such a clean cut good kid~ & i love rihanna, i feel really bad for her~

ROTFL.. I just re-read your post, and am ROLLING on #6! I have yet to this day heard a Jonas Brothers song, and part 2- I'm with you.. I don't want to! LOLOL

I think that (execpt for maybe LB) Coldplay deserved to win best song of the year more than anyone else. That is just such a good song. (Anyway, the only way LB could win a solo grammy is if everyone else didn't have any new material/was dead, but even then I doubt it.)

...well, except for maybe Joe Satriani. :p

BTFLCHLD 02-10-2009 11:07 AM

U2 sound was crappy

I was totally jazzed to see Orianthi on guitar in Underwood's 'backband'

CelticGypsy 02-10-2009 11:45 AM

Love U2.

Loved Coldplay's song even though that song is similar to so many others. I still love the song/lyrics. Gwennie needs to buy hubby and band some new clothes:lol:

Miley is only 16. Some people forget that.

Jonas Brothers are similar to the Osmonds but the Osmonds had MORE talent and MORE brothers and Marie:rolleyes:

Justin was GREAT! And I am 51 and like him:nod:

I turned the channel when Kanye was on.

Whitney was pretty but she's going through peri-menopause and past drug use didn't help her one bit and she wasted her time and talents being married to Bobby Brown.

LOVED the Four Tops medley and Neil Diamond. Proves this show was much better 30 years ago when music was music.

Keith Urban is cute. Way to go Nicole! Dumped creepy hubby for a awesome one:nod:

I like U2 too...but don't you think the sound was off?

I like Coldplay's look...and I LOVE Chris's happy trail :o

You should have seen them on that halftime show they did over Thanksgiving, or Christmas...whenever it was. Awful. A-W-F-U-L.

Not to worry, they'll be yesterday's news faster than you can ask:

"Whatever happened to Hanson?"

Chrislit18 02-10-2009 04:33 PM

Thank you Ledgies for the comments on Miley/JoBros.

Me making those comments in the school newspaper, essentially got myself blacklisted from any 'cool' clique XD lol.

I didn't watch the Grammy's this year. I was protesting them.
When MGMT and Vampire Weekend don't get nods, and Lil Wayne gets 8...I find the world to be a bit messed up.

They're still around, putting out (pretty awesome) albums, doing a lot of charity work and still having to answer questions about "MmmBop"!

As for the Jonas Brothers, I'd be lying if I said I didn't find some of that stuff catchy. Good, no, catchy, kinda. I think Nick has some actual talent and mz\ay stand a chance if he can bust away from the other two.

Probably. I'd bet her father listened to their music.

He is hugely talented. I just found out that he produced some of Duran Duran's last album.

When I first saw the Brown arrested for assault headlines, I assumed it was Bobby, not Chris. From what I saw of the reality show that Bobby and Whitney did, Bobby was actually the saner of the two. She was massively cracked out and I don't necessarily think all of the blame should be on him.

I had recorded the show and wathced it later. I nodded off and woke up to Smokey Robinson, Jamie Foxx, Neyo and that gentleman from the original Tops singing Standing In The Shadows Of Love and thought 'Am I dead'?

Gosh, when I was in high school in the 80's, it was definitely not cool to be into any of that teeny-bopper shizz. Instead, we had our own small little clique that appreciated Siouxsie, Kate Bush, New Order, The Alarm, Bowie, Led Zeppelin, the Smiths, etc. It is distressing for me that utter crap like Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift and Chris Brown are so popular today... it's just boggles the mind... :distress:

That was like me, when I was in high school back in 76'.. We were all into Led Zeppelin, Peter Frampton was the BIGGIE back then, and Jethro Tull! I LOVED Siouxsie and the Banshees big time too, even tho they came along a little later.. and yes.. I SOOOOO agree. What people call music these days amazes me.. LOLOLOL:laugh:

I know, I just cannot believe what gets classified as music. Those bands that you mentioned there actually played music, actually played instruments. Maybe my friends and I are just old-school, we like real music.

I'm SOO with you there, on all counts! We could actually understand the WORDS to the songs, and the writing back then made sense! LOL..:wavey:

I think that Miley was, and is, really good :) The song I Miss You and the one they sang on the Grammy Award...Fifteen :) It's me, I know! She's my age, actually :)

Nah, it's not just you. I'm not that familiar with Miley, but I do find it interesting when people look down on a whole genre of entertainment because it's not to their personal taste. The Miley/Jonas genre of music has existed for a long time, maybe not as corporately pushed as it is now, but the quality and style of music is nothing new. Leif Garrett, the Bay City Rollers, David Cassidy and the like all existed at the same time "real" music was being created and if I remember correctly, Tiger Beat was launched in the 60s and it's main purpose was to give teenage girls/fans more info on their idols. It's not a new concept. And really, if the worst thing a 12 year old girl is doing is finding singing/songwriting/purity-ring wearing Nick Jonas to be the best thing since sliced bread, well, that's better than a LOT of other things.

FWIW, I want to second this comment - those little boys have grown up to be creative and serious entertainers committed to their craft and community service. I've seen the Jonas Bros act and I just don't understand how they get all this attention when, in my opinion, the Hansons are much more deserving of critical acclaim, sponsorship, and attention.
