I'm OFFENDED by the Buckingham Nicks cover. Think about the children!!

Just kidding. I want to know what portions of the cover were really colorized. I have these two images.

http://i39.tinypic.com/akcz9c.jpghttp://i40.tinypic.com/2a53qa.jpg

Is the first one accurate and the second one altered? Do the liner notes say who colored the picture?

CADreaming 02-08-2009 09:16 PM

The liner notes just say:

Album Design: Jimmy Wachtel
Photography: Lorrie Sullivan/Jimmy Wachtel
Inspiration: Richard Marcelli
Color Print: The Dye Company, Los Angeles/Wild Studio/Jimmy Wachtel

When you consider that it's not some suit from Polydor, but just Waddy's brother --who probably hung around her place smoking dope -- it seems it would have been even easier for Stevie to tell the guys she wasn't going to take her top off.

Notice how they spell "Stevie" on this album: "Stevi." wonder when and why it changed to "Stevie?" which i do actually like better. Any thoughts/opinions on this?? Just a bit of useless trivia. Have a great week all!!

For real...and wouldn't LB have put his foot down to that anyway? Like, I'm sure he wouldn't have wanted Waddy's bro to be seeing her topless. Maybe Lorrie Sullivan took that photo...

vermicious knid 02-08-2009 10:59 PM

Stevie said there were some other real models there, so it couldn't have been too casual. I forgot what she said, but the models assumed Stevie was a model too.

skuncles 02-08-2009 11:25 PM

Lorrie Sullivan was the photographer for the album. Hey, it was 1973, it wasn't THAT odd of a request for her to take her top off. I never understood her problem with it, you don't see anything.

Bella Figura 02-08-2009 11:52 PM

I don't think she was mortified with the final picture but more with the immediate experience of being topless in front of a room full of strangers...she had went out and purchased new clothes just for the shoot so she may have had a pre-concieved notion of what the cover shot would look like...her in a beautiful outfit, a rising star.

then bam! at the shoot it's suddenly a nude...no matter how strategic or artistic the shot was...she was still a young woman from a traditional family background. Even when the times are hip, getting naked in a room full of people makes most young woman feel like a stripper...certainly not a Star!!

when you read the Garbo lyrics about this experience you begin to understand her embarassment and humiliation felt in the lines "turned to stone" or "you could forget" or tongue in cheek "you miss what you lose"...

This reminds me of that tour footage where Robin is dressing her back stage and Robin says, "do you mind" as she begins unzipping Stevie's skirt and Stevie screeches, "Robin!" And Robin takes that as the answer to, "do you mind" and says, "indeed you do." Stevie says, "Indeed I do" and makes it clear she doesn't want to be disrobed in front of a room full of people. It was pretty funny.

All she bought was a shirt, if you look at the photo inside the album you see the shirt. It's nothing special. Neither one had much money so a white shirt and jeans was the extent of her wardrobe for the cover shoot.

But it was very expensive for the seventies. In today's money it would have to be worth at least $1000.

The one on the left is the real one!

Rumor.....or is that rumour?!?....has it that the cover is one of the things holding up an official re-release of the BUCKINGHAM NICKS lp on cd.....Lindsey wants to release it as is, while Stevie wants a new cover.
I have to side with Lindsey here.....this is a piece of their history! So Stevie was talked into doing something she wasn't proud of.....let that be a warning to the next generation (s)!!!

I never heard that Stevie wanted a new cover. In fact, she seems resigned to it being, as you said, a piece of histoy now. I think she has accepted it as such today, though it was painful at the time.

And, she should be resigned to it. Even if she doesn't like it she needs to get over it. It's rock n roll history now....but wait isn't that her that keeps a copy of it on her piano...must not bother her that bad, unless she just likes to walk by it everyday and remind herself how pissed off it made her and how she cried and was made to feel like a "baby"...

"weeellll, it's a woman's right to change her mind, they say" and speaking of myself as an older mature woman, I may have been totally embarassed at one time of some of the pictures and videos I was in but now I don't mind having the proof of being a hottie back in the day!!!

but I don't see how being surprised, embarassed, angry or upset about something you were kinda coerced into doing makes you a "baby"...to me, not putting her foot down at the time is what made her immature.

Nicks Fan 02-09-2009 09:41 PM

I don't get all the fuss over the cover. If she didn't want to do it why not just say I refuse to do it.

See, that's why I would have paid money (concert ticket kind of dough) to hear her tell her whole version of the story when they were on ET together, because I wanted to see the reaction. Michele

Yeah, I know what you mean - but unfortunately I don't buy everything she says...I would like to hear the version from the photographer or Lindsey even. I would love for him to have turned to her during that interview and said, "Oh, bs, Stevie! You went along with it willingly and only tell this story because it sounds good."

That's what I meant. I'd love to see him going, "What?! I had to fight to get you to keep your pants on." But you know how he is. He'd only raise his eyebrows and have a look on his face, but he wouldn't say much.

By the same token, as long as they were all on a conference call together, I'd love to have him go into his, "they tried to make me use a guitar pick 35 years ago" routine. John and Mick would probably be saying, "Man, what is your problem!"

They have much different (but no less familiar) discussions when they are interviewed together than when they are alone.

Yeah - I'd love to be a fly on the wall when there's no cameras or recording devices around the lot of them ... that's when you'd get the real scoop. ha!

Pants on - good one!! LOL.
