Greetings from downtown New York City to our beloved Gypsies, and all who have joined this newsletter since last year's NOTS. We hope you are warm and enjoying this brand new year, with all its hope and challenges. We are overjoyed to announce the date and theme for this year's NIGHT OF 1000 STEVIES 19. After so much positive feedback about last year's new venue - THE HIGHLINE BALLROOM - we are happy to be returning there this year. NOTS 19: SONGS OF RHIANNON will be held on Friday, May 1, and tickets will go on sale on February 1.

This year's theme - and the centerpiece of the show - are the ten "SONGS OF RHIANNON" penned by STEVIE NICKS in her BUCKINGHAM NICKS days. Some are well loved and well known, like RHIANNON, PLANETS OF THE UNIVERSE, ANGEL and SORCERER, others are only demos. In stage decor, visuals and costuming, we'll pay homage to the Celtic white witch RHIANNON - fitting for a date that is both MAY DAY and BELTANE.

Our next mail will have lots more details, including first confirmed performers, more about the theme, and box office information. We wanted to get the date out this weekend so you can begin to make plans, and will be back in touch when the box office opens. We will again be offering a reduced advance price to this list during the first two weeks of sale. Latest news will also be available on the NOTS MYSPACE and the ENCHANTED GYPSIES forum on THE MOTHERBOARDS NYC.

A NOTE TO PERFORMERS
All performers who have played at NOTS in the past, let us know your intentions for this year as soon as possible, or by March 1 the latest. Look out for a separate email in the next week or so with more information about this year's theme and the Rhiannon Songs in particular. We do NOT need song requests this early, but you are welcome to send them along (especially if they are one of the ten Rhiannon Songs).

If you are a new performer who would like to apply to perform at NOTS 19, please email us at [email protected] by March 1, and we will send you full instructions on how to apply.

BOX OFFICE AND TICKETS
Advance tickets $20 February 1-15 (a thank-you to our longtime attendees)
$25 after February 15 and at the door if available.

Box Office opens February 1 on the HIGHLINE BALLROOM site - we'll email you when its live.

THE REST
Night of a Thousand Stevies is probably the best-known STEVIE NICKS fan event in the world, a riot of shawls, lace, baby's breath, twirling, tambourines and great performance. This event began at JACKIE 60 nineteen years ago with four performers, and has grown into a true spectacle, featuring countless interpretations over a marathon night. As always, this Enchanted evening will climax in a twirl of shawls and tambourines with the Battle of a Thousand Stevies near morning.

As we once again prepare for a truly magical night, we are humbled by the very special joy and tremendous support that you bring to NOTS every year. Special greetings to all of our friends from the Stevie Nicks websites and other online outposts for the Gypsies That Remain. Forward and post freely, and we look forward to twirling with all of you, NOTS Legends and newbies alike, on May 1.

And The Love Remains -

Chi Chi Valenti, Hattie Hathaway and Johnny Dynell
Producers, NOTS 19

I like this theme! I hope there will be some creative live arrangements of "Blue Water," "Mistaken Love," "Forest of the Black Roses," "Three Birds," etc.

Wizard sleeves are back!

notsfan-nola 01-21-2009 05:41 PM

Yes I love the theme too  and the "frozen" price and early discount, very much appreciated this year. Thanks for posting gypsy 033, see u there?

TrueFaith77 01-21-2009 06:01 PM

I can't wait! I can't wait!

What are the Rhiannon songs?

Someone posted this online about these songs:

Got my plane ticket and hotel room already. Wouldn't miss it for anything.

So much better than a Mac or Stevie show.

Funny. I'm lying from LA to New York to see a Stevie drag show, and I won't drive
15 minutes with free tix, parking and passes to see the real thing anymore.

That about says it all.

Where did sillydreamer (Is that John aka AJ?) get the idea that ANGEL is a RHIANNON project song? The only reference I know about is the 1979 Ladd interview where Stevie mentions that a stanza is from the story of Rhiannon. She didn't say that song was written for this big multidecade project of hers. Is there some other mention of it somewhere? I really don't know -- I'm asking because I'm accustomed to Stevie fans extrapolating wildly & drawing self-projected conclusions. (I mean that in the nicest possible way.)

Hi, Sparky!

I heard a rumour about a guy here in Austin who is trying to organize a Stevie Nicks Hoot Night (a bunch of bands playing Stevie songs), and he wants to call it Night of 1000 Stevies. The person who told me emailed me his myspace profile, I should contact him to see what's up.

Gypsy0033 02-02-2009 05:57 PM

Here's the update from events@jackiefactory:

Greetings from a springlike Sunday in downtown New York City to our beloved Gypsies, performers and friends - and if you've just joined this list, welcome. Here is more news about NIGHT OF 1000 STEVIES 19: SONGS OF RHIANNON, coming on May 1. This year's theme revolves around the "SONGS OF RHIANNON" penned by STEVIE NICKS in her BUCKINGHAM NICKS days, and the legend of the Celtic witch RHIANNON, so central to Stevie's mythology. The box office is now open for this marathon night on the HIGHLINE BALLROOM site, and discount ($20) tickets are also available there for the next two weeks.

Our first confirmed performers span many of the unique and timeless stars that make "The Night" so special, and the search is now on for this year's new discoveries. Returning Legends of Stevie Realness already include NYC Dragstars (and Project Runway supermodels) SHERRY VINE and SWEETIE, AMBER GARBO (Las Vegas), GYPSY WILD, JAZMEN FLOWERS (Mississippi), CHARLENE CORAN (Colorado), THE DIVINE GRACE, LIZZIE DAVIS (Texas), NOTS starlets HEATHER LITTEER (aka JESSICA RABBIT DOMINATION), TIFFANEY of MIRROR IN THE SKY and AMBER RAY, and singer/songwriter ADAM JOSEPH. Show producers CHI CHI VALENTI and HATTIE HATHAWAY will serve as "Enchantresses of Ceremony" and all-Stevie/Fleetwood DJs CRAIG SPENCER, SAMMY JO and POISON EVE will keep the dancefloor twirling between show sets.
If you are a new performer who would like to apply to perform at NOTS 19, please email us at [email protected] by March 1, and we will send you full instructions on how to apply. We welcome all forms of Stevie homage including vocals, dance performance, lip-synch, musical numbers and performance art, but cannot accomodate full bands.

Our next newsletter will include the RHIANNON-influenced suggested dress code, artwork, and latest confirmed performers, and updates are always available on our NOTS WEBSITE, the NOTS MYSPACE and the ENCHANTED GYPSIES forum on THE MOTHERBOARDS NYC.

Night of a Thousand Stevies is probably the best-known STEVIE NICKS fan event in the world, a riot of shawls, lace, baby's breath, twirling, tambourines and great performance. As we once again prepare for a truly magical night, we are humbled by your Wild Hearts and the tremendous support that you bring to NOTS every year. Special greetings to all of our friends from the Stevie Nicks websites and other online outposts for the Gypsies That Remain. Forward and post freely, and we look forward to twirling with all of you, NOTS Legends and newbies alike, on May 1.

If anyone hasn't gone to NOTS and has an intention to, I would urge you to check it out. It's fun, thought it gets very crowded. It hasn't been as fun as the first time that I went, because it was all so new and outrageous. But, it's still cool. And where else will you hear Stevie/Mac on a loud nightclub sound system?
I'm on the fence about going this year...

notsfan-nola 02-21-2009 04:36 PM

Jazmen Flowers is NOTS '09 "cover Stevie"

Congratulations Jaz, I just opened this update and saw your pic -

By the way I got this from news from The Mother Boards..
"NOTS namedropped by Perez Hilton in this clip from the Chris Isaak Show" also followed by an interview with Stevie. Thanks Brian!

Oh... I didn't think there were any colors except black... ever. When in doubt, just wrap yourself in a black table cloth or doily. I'm sure Cheap Jack's at Herald Square has a ton of 'em for $1.

I know Stevie has acknowledged this annual event, but she doesn't pay too much attention to it. I wonder what she would think about hearing that this year's event features songs that she hasn't officially released -- songs she never intended to have out there, especially in demo/rough form.

tothegypsy 04-08-2009 09:37 PM

Do they sell food at this event? Seven hours is a long time to survive on booze alone ;)

That's what cocaine is for! :sorry: just joking!

Gypsy0033 04-20-2009 12:24 AM

Here are 2 more recent interviews where Stevie talks about NOTS...

http://www.ebar.com/arts/art_a...ec=music&article=604

Your songs "Edge of 17" and "Gypsy" inspired the gay coming-of-age movies Edge of Seventeen and Gypsy 83. Have always been aware of your gay following?

"I became aware of it with Night of a Thousand Stevies . I am thrilled and honored that the gay community backs my music. I always kid that one day, all you Night of a Thousand Stevies people, one day I'll be there, in complete dress, and you won't know it. I'll be hulking around somewhere, standing behind you, so be careful what you say, because I could be standing next to you at any moment!"

and here
http://community.livejournal.c...ydidnt/33662977.html

So, Night of a Thousand Stevies is coming up in May, and there are die-hard fans who are convinced that you showed up one year in disguise.

"I didn't. I did not. But you know what? Sometimes I think I should just lie and say I did! The fact is that I've never been to a Night of a Thousand Stevies, not because I wouldn't like to come. I would love to go. But I’m always working. And I’m usually working on something that I can’t get out of. And I live on the other side of the country. I would love to attend Night of a Thousand Stevies. And what I’d like to do is come in total Stevie disguise. Which of course nobody could do better than me! And one year, watch out all you people, I will be there! And you won’t know, so watch everything you say, because I could be lurking! [Laughs]"

Question: Does it ever hit you that you’re a cultural icon?

"It probably doesn’t. Because, I play the gigs, I go back to the hotel. I don’t get to go out to clubs. I don’t even get to go out to dinner! So, when you ask me if I’m aware of my iconic status—it’s like hearing the PA in the venue. I’m aware because I can hear it, but I don’t get to be a part of it that often. And I’m sorry about that, because I would like to be more a part of it, and dig on it more. And I don’t really get to do that. But I will tell you I am very, very honored. I’m very honored about Night of a Thousand Stevies. I think it’s precious. And it goes straight to my heart. I wish I could come there every year. I know I’m a rock ’n’ roll star, but I work very hard. I’m the worker bee. I don’t really get to enjoy the honey comb very much."

Speaking of what to wear for NOTS, wonder if there will be alot of black tailcoats over white ruffled skirts this year - the beautiful costume Stevie wears near the end of "Live In Chicago" has inspired me!

Jazmen and Gypsy, hope to meet you this year and looking forward to seeing everyone:]

I didn't sleep last night. Ugh. Oh well trying to get ready now.

strandinthewind 05-02-2009 08:18 AM

My feet are killing me after walking, if not parading, around in six inch platforms last night at Night of 1,000 Stevies!!!!!!!

JAZZY was perfect!!!!!!!!! -- the best of many very good entertainers of the night. She had us spellbound with her performance!!!!!

I met many Ledgies, which after like 25 cocktails could have been a good or bad thing

What a night!

TrueFaith77 05-02-2009 09:54 AM

Next year, I am going to take notes. I don't remember who sang what or when, but I know there were a lot of performances that really impressed me!!!!! Congrats to all who participated. And thank you!
