Unleashed Tour: Christine songs
 

Although I won't be seeing the Unleashed tour, I am keen to know which Christine songs people here think the band will attempt. Mick has said in a couple of interviews that they are going to do some, and considering it's supposed to be a 'hits' tour, they can't leave her material out.

Will the version of YMLF they rehearsed in 2003 perhaps see the light? Who would sing it? I think we all know Don't Stop will be wheeled out again, but will World Turning? I am intrigued.

Honestly I don't know which ones they would consider doing, besides Don't Stop and World Turning.

Did they really attempt YMLF for SYW??? Anyone got audio of this?

We saw song titles on the bulletin board in Destiny Rules.

They can't really justify calling it a hits tour without some Christine material, and it would be great if they departed from the 03/04 'Don't Stop'/'World Turning' double.

I actually think that 'Oh Daddy' might make it onto the setlist, and quite possibly 'Hold Me' (if they can make it work live).

I would actually like to see "World Turning", but I like the original version better.

I know it probably inevitable, but I could really do without "Don't Stop". They should atleast drop World Turning. blah. Over My Head or YMLF could potentially be cool though.

I don't really mind which ones they do as long as they don't try to do Sognbird.

I agree about Songbird, Gail. Despite it being seemingly the most covered Rumours-era FM song now, noone but Christine can do it justice IMO.

I wouldn't mind Over My Head but not sure Stevie could pull it off...

Who could possibly sing YMLF? They could drop it an octave and I still don't think Stevie or Lindsey could pull it off. And although Stevie could easily handle "Over My Head," I don't think it would make the cut- I read that "Over My Head" was cut from the Dance CD and tour because they felt that it didn't work well live. I can kinda see where they are coming from- it's such a laid back chill song that it would create a little bit of a lull...

I think "Think About Me" would be totally doable. So is "Say You Love Me." "Everywhere" is a possibility, but I think "Little Lies" would be impossible. I think there is a slight chance that "Hold Me" could be done; however, I think Lindsey and Sharon would be singing the verses.

In general I think Stevie/Lindsey doing Christine songs is a bad, bad idea; Christine is inimitable. However, the one exception would be Stevie singing "Oh Daddy." For some reason I think this would be exceptional...

I think with the right arrangement "Over My Head" would have worked. It was too laid back on The Dance video but I never found it to be dull on the early years versions I've heard (including the live 1980 album version which I believe was from a 1977 concert). Hell, the way they arranged "Rhiannon" for The Dance was laid back and essentially created a lull. Seriously, at least for the CD, they should have dropped "Rhiannon" for her stellar performance of "Gold Dust Woman" that night (I believe there was talk of swapping "Gypsy" for "Rhiannon" which I think would have been a mistake).

While the idea of one of them doing "Songbird" makes me physically ill, there are some songs that I could see Stevie or Lindsey doing some justice to. I agree, "Oh Daddy" seems like such a logical choice for Stevie as well as a song that would go over well. Being that it's off Rumours, it's obviously well known (despite not being a hit single) to the audience. Plus, I think Stevie's voice would do well on it, while not doing a massacre as she would on some of Chris' other tunes. For Lindsey, I think it's even easier due to the number of collaborations Lindsey and Chris had over the years. "World Turning" and "Don't Stop" are obvious candidates (blah on both of them by the way), but I would love to see Lindsey take on "Hold Me", "Little Lies", or "Isn't it Midnight." As I am typing this, I'm trying to come up with a tune from Tusk I'd like to hear them do and I'm thinking that Stevie might do a good version of "Brown Eyes."

Only because they started playing it like a bunch of wussies. THIS is not a song that would create a lull!!!

But your point is made. The lead vocal on YMLF needs a range of a whopping 13th! (From F3 to C5)
Of course, there's no reason not to think that Nicks or Buckingham wouldn't drop high notes & low notes on Christine McVie songs, the way they do on their own songs.

I think that would be, too, because it's so straightforward (barring the old electric piano, which would be lost in favor of Brett's "workstation"). But even so, would the current band dredge up such a long-lost song (which only got played live for about a month)? Has it even been on their radar in the past 25 years?

I think they'll play World Turning, Hold Me, and Don't Stop.

If they did OMH, I think Stevie should do her very own background vocals, as they were truly sublime on the original. It's one of those songs where you say to yourself, "Who is that woman singing on the chorus?"

Same feeling I get as with Gold, Magnet and Steel or (embarassed) Whenever I Call You Friend.

I think "Little Lies" is going to be on the list. It's definitely is one of Chris' songs that is achievable on stage with just Stevie and Lindsey, plus the many background vocalists they're sure to have. They could even do it as a "duet" when Stevie and Lindsey alternating singing the verses. I think it was also a pretty big radio hit and got a huge response during the Behind the Mask tour.

I hope you are right. It should have been figured out and done on The Dance tour. "Little Lies" was huge on radio and MTV when it was released. It's very well known and should go over well providing it's not rearranged to an unrecognizable point. The Tango in the Night album as a whole is largely overlooked by the band and that's a shame (other than "Everywhere" in '97 and Lindsey prostituting the acoustic "Big Love" all over the place for 15+ years). It was a huge album and there are some hits and other gems on there that need to see life!

Could it BE? Do I agree with you on something? I totally vote Sharon to do some Christine songs. WOuld you go as far as to say that she deserves a little attempt since she has been with them since early 80's? Just askin...

Right, well... You have a point. It's just that she has been there for the multidue of insanity... I figured that the girl deserves a chance get out of the corner. She has a beautiful voice. However, not everyone agrees. So did you get a package or did you just get tickets, David?

So David, why are you not going? (Not to be nosey...) I am hoping that a lot of people from this site will attend.. I want to meet people who have different views on the tour, of the band, and know what they are talking about. I said to my friend, We may be the only people at this pre-show party lol having our popcorn and may certainly be the only ones at the meet and greet. Doesn't look like anyone else has purchased that package or many tickets to our date...

I was in an audience once during the SYW tour when the guy behind me observed that Brett looked like Christine and even had the same hair (?). So, I'm not sure what the multitudes think about things like that.

Well, yes it would be fun to hear Eva Cassidy try it, especially when she got to the for you there will be no more crying part. Wouldn't be a dry eye in the house or the heavens.

Christine's offbeat tambo playing on SYLM really brought the show down.

I know you're ribbing (what?! you & I ribbing?!), but Christine's tambourine work is sort of off the beat. It reminds me of her off-the-beat tambourine playing on HYPNOTIZED & SENTIMENTAL LADY on the 1981 Welch show at the Roxy. It's odd, considering that as a keyboardist her greatest strength is rhythm, as square & compact as an athlete's washboard abs.

And on those older occasions when we can hear her tambourine (like EYES OF THE WORLD on the Forum video), it sounds better than it looks. Finally, her maraca playing (MONDAY MORNING, OH WELL, WORLD TURNING) has always been spot on.

Puzzling.

Yeah she looked hungover or something at that roxy show... but her maracas on Oh Well are sizzling!!
