Stevie Nicks on AI
I never watch American Idol, but was too lazy to change the channel tonight. There was a girl, Stevie Wright, named after Stevie. She sang "At Last" and was very good. She made it through. They played "Rooms on Fire" while she spoke to Ryan after her audition.

Stevie sighting on American Idol
I'm watching American Idol and they're in Phoenix right now! Some girl was just on; her name was Stevie. She said her mom was a huge Stevie Nicks fan. She sung At Last by Etta James and got a gold ticket... and then Rooms on Fire was played!

 Looks like we need to merge some threads!

I know, right!?!?! I just saw her too, and I had to come on and check if anyone else had. :P I didn't think she was as good as the Emily girl who did Barracuda though.
It's funny, because Stevie did At Last on Stormy Weather too. I wonder if "Stevie 2" as she calls herself, knows about that! ~Rhiya |
That's what I thought too! Oh, the coincidences..
|
I especially loved when they played Rooms on Fire at the end...a very rare song for the masses to hear, and it was nice that they played that one!

Maybe our Stevie will be a guest judge if her namesake ends up going a long way......wouldn't that be nice!

What I noticed (and was happy) about the mention of Stevie on Idol was that all of the judges, to varying degrees, expressed a respect and reverance for her. As they nodded their heads, it was if they were saying to the newer Stevie, "Yeah, you've got a great musical influence and reference point."
I don't know anything about the new judge, except that she is a "go-to songwriter " like Dianne Warren (sic?) --someone under the wire (at least to the general public) who makes a very healthy wage writing generic mainstream anthems for producers looking for sure-fire hits for the artists they produce. The fact that she is a big fan of Stevie is kind of surprising. But it just shows that many of Stevie's fans are cross-overs, and come from different genres. I love that! |

At this point in her career, she doesn't need to do that -- it would serve no purpose other than to denigrate her image. Obviously she is still reaching a younger audience that have to sense to reach beyond the vapid "artists" that currently occupy the charts these days. |

I've never seen the show, so maybe there's a difference between the artists who appear and the artists whose music is featured (with all the contestants doing one of their songs). If there is, I would, of course, prefer FM to just have their music used by the contestants, rather than to have them performing, because I agree with you about the denigration aspect and don't want them to appear common. Kara Dioguardi has a several connections to Stevie:
Kara Dioguardi was one half of Platinum Weird with Eurthymic Dave Stewart. Stevie appeared in the faux documentary recalling the band's mysterious past. In a 2005 interview, DioGuardi explained that she and Stewart were asked to write songs for The Pussycat Dolls in 2004. Instead, the pair ended up with material that DioGuardi described as resembling Fleetwood Mac. Although the collaboration did not produce the intended Pussycat Dolls songs, Interscope chairman Jimmy Iovine encouraged the continuation of the project, and longtime DioGuardi partner John Shanks was brought in for album production duties. |

I think this is the first time Stevie has been mentioned on AI since the first season. This video doesn't include the judges comments. Paula said "This song is so Stevie Nicks, and she has such an unique indentifiable voice, and thats why she is an american idol."

"The fictional version of Platinum Weird is a partnership between Stewart and a mythical singer/songwriter from New York City named Erin Grace. Erin made a strong impression on numerous artists in the UK, including Stevie Nicks, who emulated her style. After a handful of performances and with an album partially completed, Erin suddenly disappeared. Apparently distraught over the death of Nick Drake, she abruptly ran off with Elton John's boyfriend in late 1974. Soon afterward, she turned up in Los Angeles, where Don Henley introduced her to Lindsey Buckingham, setting into a motion a relationship that would be the inspiration for the Fleetwood Mac Rumours album." |
