How can Stevie's wardrobe choices be different from the SYW tour

Stevie on the Say You Will tour, during most performances, was tired, drab, dull...oh wait, that was her outfits. We know menopause, and the fact that Christine was gone, affected her greatly and it showed on this tour. Her outfit choices flat-out sucked, and her energy was almost non-existent.

When Stevie hit the road for her Crystal Visions tour, it was like new life was breathed into her soul...her outfits were awesome and she was back to being the Stevie that we all know and love.

So, what can Stevie do this time around to not repeat the mistakes made during the Say You Will tour. My suggestion...no cardigans!

SandyMac 01-06-2009 01:03 AM

more color !! bring out fantastic colorful shawls and dusters, oh and wear the top hat for Rhiannon

chriskisn 01-06-2009 04:57 AM

how about a mini skirt?

I quite agree. ;)

But really. Those outfits from "Soundstage" were awesome. Maybe something like that? .... and leave the Frankenboks at home.

Okay. What did Lindsey do on the SYW tour & what are the Frankenboks?

I don't know what thr deal with Lindsey was, but the Frankenboks are those black platform shoes she wore instead of the boots.

Platform sneakers, no less. Odd fashion choice, for serious.

And I guess Lindsey was mean. Or something.

Supposedly Lindsey "told" her not to wear her Stevie clothes. And, if you buy that I've got some ocean front property in Arizona to sell ya...

Apparently, he's the devil.

I can just see the supposed conversation - "Stevie, stop wearing that stuff. It's so...Stevie. No one wants to see that. Tone it down."

For this tour, I would like to see her tone it way UP in retaliation. Like, she could wear the giant "Rock and Roll" tophat - you know, the one with the huge feather that she has to hold onto her head with one hand the whole time so it doesn't fall off?

Except she should have a new one made that is 5 times the size as the old one, and hire 3 extra persons (to be dressed in mime outfits, so they are less noticeable) to help her hold it on instead. Granted, it will be awkward for the twirling, but I am sure she can pull it off. It's so...Stevie.

Yeah, I can totally imagine that. Always his fault.

Actually I kinda like that hat, but a liiiittle big for performing on a stage. Your idea is quite hilarious though. Of course she could pull it off. She is Stevie.

You know what else is his fault? Yep - WWII and the fact that I can't find my keys.

And that big hat cracks me up, so I would like to see it bigger. Less practical, more fabulous, I always say.

I seriously doubt Stevie will be wearing a mini skirt anytime soon. You don't see too many 60 year old women in mini skirts. You guys DO realize that she's 60 not 30 right? I agree that she needs to change things up a bit, as she has more or less been stuck with the same basic look since 1997.
As for the "Frankenboots", her ankles were messed up which is why she wasn't wearing the boots. The sneakers were made for her to help with her ankles. The ankle problem and her back was bothering her a lot around that time. There were stops on her solo tour prior to the SYW tour that she skipped the "Edge" walk because her back was bothering her too much to lean over.

petep9000 01-06-2009 08:39 AM

I'm having a brain cramp all of a sudden. She wore the 'boks during the SYW shows? I'm blanking out, and suddenly can't remember 2004 and how her feet looked at Jones Beach. But she didn't wear them during CV did she? I didn't see those shows, but I was following the tours progress on this board..

DeeGeMe 01-06-2009 08:41 AM

In one word: Color. She needs to wear more color. I know black is slimming and it's so very Stevie but she should shake up her wardrobe with a bit more color.

Sorry I was letting my fantasy run away with me...you know Stevie in a mini skirt and stripper heels! ;)

I saw the 2nd night of the SYW Tour, it was in D.C. and she wore the little black boots with the little skinny heel that had a silver chain around the ankle part, and she kinda just stayed at the microphone all night, no dancing, just minimal movement. I think she wore those boots just a few more times and the frankenboks came back out.

Perhaps the hat-handlers could hold it up for the twirl and put it back on when she's regained her stability.

skuncles 01-06-2009 10:38 AM

The Frankenboots were worn for most of the SYW tour. That's one of the things that bothers me about the Soundstage DVD, the shot they used of Stevie in front of Mick's drum kit is Stevie in the horrible sneakers. She DID put the boots on for a song or two (usually at the end of the set), but the sneakers were on the rest of the time.
For the Crystal Visions tour "the boots were back" thus the T-shirt.

BellaDonna93 01-06-2009 11:34 AM

I think she fits on black but I also want to see her in more colors and maybe her black skin pants that she used on the 2008 tour...they were cool!

I think that's good advice for life in general, not just tophats

No cardigans, no Frankenboks, and after that I think it's hard to go wrong. :)

At the first night in Boston when they were filming the DVD, Stevie came out with brown boots on just before 'Gypsy', and those of us in the front row were freaking out about the boots, so she looked at us and said "only for this song".

It is indeed one of the rules I live by. Goes hand-in-hand with the one that says "I DO WHAT I WANT."

The Frankenboks were oddly mesmerizing to me, though, when I first saw them. I was like, "WHAT is she wearing? What are those? Sneakers? Creepers? Maybe if I keep looking long enough, I'll magically figure it out."

wheart 01-06-2009 03:07 PM

an excellent topic, if I do say so myself LOL. Seriously, Stevie's wardrobe has always held a great fascination for me. The SYW choices were dreadful, however, they were MUCH improved for the 2004 leg. Here are some of my suggestions:

- as mentioned before, more color! I wish she would wear a base outfit of red or ivory once in a while. Enough with the incessant black. She looks gorgeous in all white.

- Longer shawls/capes. Her shawls in the past 10 years or so have gotten much shorter. She needs to bring out the full ones again circa Wild Heart/RAL for some real drama!

- Scarves. She wore them in 2004 for the SYW tour and they look awesome. Keep 'em coming!

- Sheer/Lace sleeves. The top she has on in the Stand Back video is so flattering, I think she needs to wear more of the sheer and lace tops, I'm sure she's got a gazillion. Her fabric choices lately seem heavier and less feminine.

- More jewelry. I love the multi ring, multi necklace look of days gone by. She wore no rings at all during the SYW tour except for Goodbye Baby and the same crescent necklace every night. A few braclets would be nice, too!

- More layers. If she came out in say 3 or 4 layers of shawls, etc. like she did during the US festival show, for instance, she could just take a layer off every 2 or 3 songs and she would keep her look fresh without having to leave the stage so often Everyone expects to see her in layers anyway, which is so her trademark, but she seems to have gotten away from it in recent years.

- NO FRANKENBOKS! Please, if she can't wear the boots for an entire FM show (and I doubt she can) find something, anything that looks better than those damn sneakers! Even a low heeled version of her boots would be OK, which she has sported before and look perfectly fine.

OK, I think I'm done now. Thanks for letting me get all this off my chest :laugh:

They're awful. Platform boots raise your heels higher than your toes, which is sexy & feminine. But Stevie's frankenbocks raise her WHOLE FOOT equally. It's ungainly. The effect is as if she were lurching around on stilts.

Yeah, they are very odd - they remind me of creepers (http://www.infectiousthreads.com/Ima...eeper_4025.jpg) but worse. And creepers are pretty damn bad.

I wear heels allllll the time, and I know by the time I am her age, I will likely regret it, but I will never wear Frankenboks.

GODDESS6 01-06-2009 04:40 PM

those platform reeboks were so hideous they made me cringe~

Exactly. She reminded me of Boris Karloff in his Frankenstein's Monster get-up. Better to just wear a flat, I think, or some sort of a wedge. It was a fashion disaster.

wolfontherun 01-06-2009 05:54 PM

Re the frankenboots. I live is SF so no one really blinks an eye about anything fashion wise but I have seen 2 people wearing those same exact frankenboots and one is a guy who must be 3 1/2 ft tall because even with the boots he is only like 4 1/2 ft tall.

I don't mind her toned down outfits as that is the thing to do when in a group setting. FM is more about the music not the individual personality. The granny sweater though was a bit too conservative.

Stevie solo is more about the personality so we are lucky that we get her solo outfits which is her time to diva things up for us.

True, but if she was having hip/back trouble I can totally understand why she wore them. I just think that with all her money she could have found someone who could design something that worked for her and that was certainly more attractive looking than those things! Good grief!

laugh::laugh: I seriously could not contain my laughter. The vision I just had in my head
was kind of like little munchkins holding her hat with a step ladder near by and it would take several of them to climb up the ladder to place the hat back on her head. Kind of like in Wizard of Oz.

Oh my mind wanders in weird directions sometimes.

Although I fully understand your point about fitting in more as a group than a solo personality... Stevie = Drama and you can still be fashionable and classy and dress the rock and roll part without it being too intrusive. More color and diversity can be exciting and adds to the performance.

If she must wear basic black, add some white or cream or red to it. Oh the waiting until March is killing me.

True, she went way TOO conservative.

I have a feeling that she was being bullied and she got to the point where she was like OK **** it nd **** you you want toned down i will give you toned down.

just make the skirt/dress long enough to cover the creepers- i'd be fine with that.

I have no doubt that Lindsey probably asked Stevie to "tone it down" when it comes to her stage wardrobe. It's certainly not beyond the realm of possibility, or even out of character for him.

But of course, Stevie being Stevie, she's going to go to extremes. So instead of toning it down "a little," she's going to tone it way down.
