ET riffs with Fleetwood Mac stars Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham, who give us the 411 on the Mac's highly anticipated "Unleashed" reunion tour.

One unique aspect about the tour is that the group is not releasing a new album but instead performing songs that they enjoy singing.

"We are not supporting a new album," Lindsey says. "We thought it would be very appropriate to go in and really just look at the body of work that we have and put together something that we would enjoy playing. And not put ourselves in the pressure of trying to redefine ourselves with new material."

It's been five years since the legendary supergroup last rocked out on the road, and their 2009 "Unleashed" tour coincides with the reissue of their signature 1977 album, Rumours -- one of the best-selling albums of all time, featuring hits such as "Don't Stop," "Go Your Own Way" and "You Make Loving Fun."

Stevie tells ET that the theme of the tour is to bring back the songs Fleetwood Mac fans know and love.

"This is our life," she says. "These are our beautiful songs that we worked so hard on, that you love. And for this one time, we're going to play all this for you."

Ok, is it me... or does Stevie sound like an older woman for the first time here? She seems to have lost that youthful quality in her speech... I don't know how to describe what I'm saying. She almost sounds like someone who has dentures LOL.

She looks as radiant as ever too... but she also looks like a(n extremely well preserved, beautiful woman) in her 60s for the first time too. I'm not saying any of these things in a bad light at all... it just seems Stevie may no longer be the little girl pixie that she always has been :angel: .

It sounds like according to stevie this is not there last time touring and also sounds like they will be recording a new cd again according to stevie and please please we pray to the rock gods that she pulls out Sisters of the moon.

As someone else mentioned in another thread, most of the "hits" Christine's. Do you think they would go back to pre-B/N and do Peter Green's stuff? And on a wish, wouldn't it just freak everyone out if Christine showed up:blob1:....
And the comment of "doing the new songs in shows" in past tours.... HUUUHHHH? Yeah, they did a couple... but the only "new" songs were some that we just never heard live. And since Lindsey doesn't have too many hits with FM, sounds like a Stevie show to me....
I don't know, I just get a weird vibe with this tour.... it's an expensive and stale way to figure out if they can still get along in the same room so that they may want do another album together...
What happened to the premise of going against the "if it's successful, run it into the ground" theory. Lindsey-shame on you.

I was also struck by the story of them talking on the phone! HOW CUTE!! Stevie all worried that there isn't enough rehearsal time! Lindsey reminding her that they've done these songs a gazillion times (the set list writes itself... indeed). So cute. They are the cutest non-couple ever. They are the we of me. :xoxo:

I thought the exact same thing. I have never been one of those Stevie-Lindsey romanticists, but there sure as hell did look adorable together. The way they look and smile at each other so candidly after all these years, and banter back and forth with one another is great. And unlike their stage shows, this was real and not rehearsed... it was just them being them.

Ok, they pretty much threatened us pretty badly and basically declared we will be punished for wanting to hear something different. We will be sent to Gitmo, in fact.

What scared me is not only that they won't be playing new songs, but they sounded like they won't even be playing any songs that haven't always been in there setlist. When Stevie was scared about rehearsals, Lindsey said, "Oh, hey don't worry. We've been doing these same songs for 30 years. We know them well enough."

So, it kind of ruined my hope that we would be getting any overlooked gems that they have NOT been doing for 30 years.

The only good thing I heard was that Stevie finally said what Mick and Lindsey said, that they will probably do a new record. She said that when they do, we will have to sit through the new material (that we don't want and don't like). So, it sounds like she is on board for a new record eventually, if all goes well.

Stevie said she hadn't seen Linds in a long time. Well, how'd she think he looked? She had her hair curled. Nice to see them.

I had the same exact feeling Michele. Usually Linds is the one who makes the move on the set list to be daring, but this time even he said hes just gunna run through the hits. I did LOVE seeing them together. Its been almost 5 years and after seeing them solo (more than five times each, for me), its just awesome to see them together!

Also, she said "45 more shows so far." So, that gives us some indication of their hopes. It's not intended to be a short tour. It depends on how ticket sales go, I guess.

I still think Lindsey was semi-strong armed into doing a hits kinda show rather then an album then tour.... He could be going along with the majority vote on that one. He's always been the one that was more into going out with a purpose rather then just to go out on tour... So he's just going with the flow...

And the more I think about it, the more troubled I get. If Lindsey said don't worry about the lack of rehearsals, because it's the same songs we've been doing for 30 years, that indicates to me that the songs will have the old, familiar arrangements too. If I was dreaming of something like the remodeled SYLM we got for The Dance, then I can kill that hope.

Thinking of their appearance, I don't think they looked old. If anything, they looked too classy. They were sedate and stately. I would like to see a few concert clips to promote the new tour that show them in action. Take the clips from Lindsey's GOS solo outing and Stevie's Soundstage. Show them moving and sweating a little. Let people who haven't seen them before know that there will be some fun and motion at this concert.

I think that may be true. I'm sure Stevie and Mick are likely to have wanted to do the hits. I bet John just wants to play his bass but I get the impression that he would be open to doing a new setlist but in the end is happy just to play at all.

Then there's Lindsey, who performed more than half of his new album on his GOS tour and there were a few new arrangements of older songs, and now he's going and doing a nostalgia tour so that's really disappointing. I just want him to do solo stuff from now on unless the Mac become a proper working band again (unlikely). Lindsey is more a band with Wally, Neal and Brett than he is with Stevie, Mick and John these days.

Yeah I get it, I just hope they don't throw in too many Christine songs. I thought World Turning and Don't Stop was just enough last time. I mean Lindsey has only had three "radio" hits with the band. I mean I can see him doing these, realistically:

Now thats only 23 songs, which leaves room for two more. Will they do 2 "different" songs or will they do two Christine songs?

Sometimes compromises have to be made, to eventually get what you want.

If a "Greatest Hits" tour is what it takes for the band members to reconnect and to all get on the same page about recording new material -- becoming that proper "working band" again -- then I think it's a worthwhile trade-off.

Stevie and Lindsey are gorgeous together. Thank you for putting this up. It's hard not to laugh watching the subtle nuances of the interview. Lindsey seemed to be holding back a few guffaws: when Stevie picked "Go Your Own Way," as an example of a song that "no body wanted to hear," and when Stevie stated once the new album comes out, we'll be forced to sit through and listen to a bunch of new songs we don't know. He was twisting his hands, got a twinkle in his eyes, as he just smiled. "Just this one time" we'll get to hear all the hits. I love Stevie. I really really do. Somehow Stevie blocked out The Dance tour, album and video where we heard all those same favorites they have played for the last 30 years. Macman, I agree. He was strong armed on this one. "He's the keeper of the peace" in this effort.

Completely, completely agree. His slight permagrin and constant twiddling of his thumbs showed just how thrilled he was to be there talking about this tour. Thinking about the money that's he's going to make just might be the only thing that puts him in his "happy place".

But even 'The Dance' featured four new ones that casual listeners had to "sit through." ;)

I honestly don't think Lindsey's being "strong-armed." I just think he's taking a slightly more relaxed attitude towards it all.

Stevie & Lindsey always clash over who's right and who's wrong, but maybe -- hopefully -- they're both trying to be adults this time, for the benefit of the band's future.

In the best of all possible worlds, that's going to benefit us too. Even if we do have to muddle through this "Hits" tour first!

But from the quotes posted in writing I'm not quite as alarmed as some of you:


Lindsey is saying they're going back and looking at their body of work, their WHOLE body of work. There's just no pressure to play new stuff. And Stevie saying they're going to "bring back songs we know and love" implies that these are songs that have actually left! Unless she has total amneisia, she has to know that Dreams, GDW, Landslide, Rhiannon etc. have never left. So when she says bring back she has to be implying something in the vein of Sisters of the Moon.

I think we're getting a little "too" worked up over the whole hits thing. Its just a marketing tool to sell tickets. In reality I think it just boils down to, for the first time since the Mirage tour, Gypsy and Sara will be allowed to coexist in the same set, and thats the extent of it. Hell just simple math implies that they HAVE to play some rarities. You just take the SYW set subtract the 6 new songs and BAM. Now the variable of them singing Christine hits throws the whole equation off and Im really hoping thats not the case.

Well, she does get total amnesia in some cases. Remember when she thought Landslide had been gone for 12 years?

Well I wouldn't call that total amnesia, just slight exageration. Landslide was not in her solo set for quite some time, about 7 years. In fact I'm proud to say I was at the very last Stevie Nicks show to date to not inclue Landslide :bigthumbsup: It was Cleveland June 25th 2005. Landslide replaced I Need to Know at the next show.

And I think we are all a little too worked up too. Just wait till the tour actually starts - It'll be fun reading all the gushing reviews from the same fans that complained about it in the beginning... Happens every time whether it's Stevie's tour or FM's tour...

Me neither. But let's look at it this way: Lindsey had his solokick. He wants to do a new FMalbum with less productional influence from his side, being a bandmate again. During touring he'll work on his digital device on freaky songs for a new solo in the future. I really think he's focused on doing more commercial Macmusic on tour AND in the studio later on.
We'll have both this way.

Plus that chemistry on stage. Nothing beats that.

Oh, I don't deny I'm going to gush. That's par for the course. But I'm going to complain then too. There is never going to be a point where I stop complaining. I enjoy complaining and it's not necessarily a measure of how much or little I like something.

It was 1990 when Stevie was saying she hadn't performed Landslide in 12 years. She might think she hasn't performed Dreams in 20 years. When she says she's bringing the songs everyone loves back, she may mean back from where FM left them in 2004, not that they're going to hit us with anything from 1979. Michele

Buried back inthe SYW era...

I remember reading somewhere/something on the Ledge about a cake given to Stevie. It was decorated with little tombstones....and on the tombstones were the names of the Stevie songs which were *retired*. I am probably off base, but was it in the Corey Buckingham tour commentary?

Anyhow...what are the songs that Stevie has retired?

Are they retired because she can't hit the high notes? Just curious.

I think Cory was talking about Destiny Rules, Silver Springs, Running Through the Garden, etc. songs that had been dropped from that particular SYW tour, not songs that Stevie doesn't sing in general.

She may have forgotten that they'd done it on the 'Mirage' tour.

In 2003/2004, she recalled Lindsey having left the band in 1982 after 'Mirage' -- so she may have some memory issues from that time period (which would coincide with Robin's death and Stevie's coke addiction becoming more serious).
