Lazy promotion for the new FM "Hits" Tour

The ad mat in the print/online averts & the TV commercials (which I saw this past weekend in Boston) are the EXACT SAME that were used in 03-04. They couldn't even bother to work up a new b-roll, or add a new-voiceover script to reference the (much-maligned) "Unleashed" tagline. I was shocked at how slapdash the production was.

So, its basically- make as much moola as possible with as minimal overhead as they can get away with, because the lure of seeing Fleetwood Mac FINALLY performing a concert that focuses on their hits!!!!! is just so totally amazing.

Kind of sad, huh?:distress:

They can't use any photos or footage past 03-04 because that's Fleetwood Mac's most recent outing as a group. New promotional photos will probably surface soon since they just announced this tour last week.

They could have posed for photos anytime in the last month or so (or ever since they signed off on the tour). It was obviously not of importance to them- or, at least, wasn't a significant thing to do, as they figured they could sell the tour using the same images/pretenses they did five years ago.

Lindsey Jr. 12-10-2008 05:18 AM

They don't even try.

Watching Destiny Rules, it seems almost impossible to get them all together in the same place, at the same time, for anything. They didn't all want to be together the whole time they recorded Say You Will, they didn't want to all be together while mixing the tracks, they drug their @sses about tour rehearsals (it's too late, I can't do it that day, blah, blah, blah). It's disappointing, but not surprising they couldn't even get the band together for a couple new photos for this tour. I remember when I was walking out of the Greensboro Coliseum a few years back, and they all got in seperate limos and everything. I don't think these people spend a minute together that they don't have to. They've become spoiled, whiney, old, has-been rock stars. It's the only thing they've known their adult lives... so I guess I could see how they could get to that point... but I don't know. I think I'd try a bit harder, and be a bit more thankful, if I were anyone one of them.

LB has never forgiven SN for what she did, and I'm not talking about MF. JMCVIE? Well, he's just very quiet, and maybe that's a good thing for them.
I wonder how much drugs, booze and other stuff they did back in the day.

Well this isn't looking good if there's going to be a tour book!... Unless by using Great Hits Tour, that gives them the license to use old pictures from the beginning up to this day... But still... They should have a couple of shots done of the group... Maybe they'll throw in some pics from the rehearsals in January with Stevie in the dark or her back to the camera.

It definitely was far removed from the old days when Christine and Stevie shared an apartment, or when they were all together at Le Chateau in France. I wonder if anybody at all slept in that big house they were recording in. It didn't look like it to me. I bet the bedrooms went totally unused as they drove back to their own individual houses every night.

It really doesn't get any lazier than that does it Luke... I can't wait to not buy tickets for this tour...

RockALittle250 12-10-2008 01:38 PM

I can't believe how everyone is getting their panties in a bunch over such trivial stuff. The tour was just announced, give it time. I could care less about what they do, because in my mind, they've been putting out albums fairly steadily for 33 years, so they can do whatever the heck they want to do at this stage in their lives. If you're not happy with the tour and the ticket prices, then don't buy tickets.

I wondered about that. I wanted to see the bedrooms. Wanted a full tour of the house. We saw the kitchen. We saw the gym. I wanted to see upstairs.

Actually though, from what Stevie said, she and Lindsey did spend a fair amount of time there together and even though they were arguing, it is still interesting to me, because they were still arguing about the past, about stuff that had happened almost 25 years ago and she said it would go on for hours. So, even though the SYW recording process wasn't like Rumours, I think it had its own share of band intricacies. I think it saw more emotion and intimacy than, say, the house in France for Mirage. You don't know about the fact that they broke up & Mick started something with Stevie which inspired the "Tusk" song?

And in 1987, there was an incident, but I don't know how much of it is true...

Oh, I'm absolutely certain you're right! It never even occured to me that they would sleep in that house. They're all far to big of divas these days to do such things. Gone are the days when Fleetwood Mac confined itself to big houses in far away places to make sure their music was pure, and their work ethic was good. In come the days where they rent double digit million dollar homes where they can be lazy and spoiled without the nosy record company being around, then go home to their own multimillion dollar palaces only miles away at night. Hell, I guess I shouldn't complain... that's a hell of a lot better than a "hits tour" where they aren't even bothering to take new publicity pictures, much less record any new material to tour behind!!

But they really haven't been putting out albums steadily for 33 years, that's the problem. Let's break down what the Rumours crew has released:

1970s- 3 albums
1980s- 2 albums
1990s- 0 new albums
2000s- 1 album

That's hardly steady output over 33 years. I think all of our biggest gripes stem from how lazy they have become ever since their super star success over 30 years ago. This latest announced tour is their most blatent cash grab yet, and I think that's why we're all upset. They're clearly not in it AS A BAND for the artistry anymore... they're about the almighty dollar. And that's what stinks.

I suspect both of these specific incidents (and others) are water under the bridge at this point. No doubt they all still hold grudges against each other for each others actions as a whole throughout their history. Mainly Lindsey still gets annoyed with Mick for his flip flopping unpredictability, Lindsey and Stevie can still get explosive together, and Lindsey can be a bit too self righteous for everyones tastes. It certainly appears Lindsey and John have pretty much mended their early Fleetwood Mac rifts, and Stevie, John, and Mick all seem chummier than ever. Lindsey seems to be the pivot of all confrentation LOL.

What about Behind the Mask, Time, and The Dance??

Johnny Stew 12-10-2008 02:47 PM

Mick, John, and Lindsey all have wives and children now -- why would they sleep in a rented house at night, instead of going home to their families who only live miles away?

Gone are the days when they had little-to-no responsibilities. As it is, Mick has expressed regret over not spending enough time with his first two daughters when the band was at its zenith.

My panties are in a bunch... but it's my office chair.. not FM... as far as buying tickets... hell no... I don't like the product anymore.. at an even higher price than it used to be.. I do love most of the albums they put out... their live performances do nothing for me anymore...

But we still have the right to vent/voice and give opinions.. and with their money.. I feel they should have a viable websight... new photos.. and new promotional material.. just my thoughts...

Others??? Please, PM me, as I want to know everything and not waiste a perfect thread! :wavey::woohoo: :o

Johnny Stew 12-11-2008 02:13 PM

In the Entertainment Tonight interview that MacMan posted, Stevie says that it's the first time she's seen Lindsey in a while. Prior to this, it seems they've been having their tour discussions over the phone.

So there's our answer as to why there aren't any new pics yet. But I'm sure we'll still get some once the band gathers for rehearsals.
