What's up with The Nix Fix?
Why doesn't Stevie's official website get updated and maintained more often?
I would visit more frequently, but it's basically the same stuff from the last visit. As a glaring example - the "ask Stevie" forum Q&A's are way old. Which leaves the impression that whoever maintains her website has other things to do and/or Stevie's career is in the waning phase so why bother(?) She's still out there every year doing successful concert tours, benefit work, interviews. She may not be introducing any new material and yes, she's not the icon she once was, but she still has a rabid, loving fan base eager to know what she's up to. I just can't figure why more effort isn't put into making her website more relevent, informative, and exciting  This website is really the only way us fans can keep tabs and show our love. Man, if I were Stevie/Stevie's people, I'd be on this big time. |
Maybe John is just too busy w/ Married life now...lol
I dont know:shrug: |
Its sad but really the Nix Fix is a joke for an 'offical' web site. It doesn't really have anything rare to speak of....it should be 'up to date'....the front page has looked the same since TISL was released. It needs a total overhaul & if they don't want to spend the time dealing with it...than well don't have an offical site. Fmac is the same way. Two artists that have followings buy many fans & its the fans that have the unoffical sites that are much, much better than the 'offical' ones. I think that tells you something right there doesn't it??????? IMO anyway......no offence anyone. I rarely go the the NF for anything period.......waste of time....& boring too......:nod:

Are you guys calling it "The Nix Fix" as an ironic joke?
|
Well at least she actually has a site. Fleetwood Mac's page has said "Coming Soon" for who knows how long. And Lindsey's site is the same way, it gets updated once every other blue moon. I guess there may be a curse.

They ever going to add the Fleetwood tour info?
Or an update to fans who have pre-ordered the Soundstage DVD? |
Nicksfix was awarded by default "official website" status because at one time it aggregated Nicks news effectively.
These two sites do it much better: http://nickslive.blogspot.com/ http://stevie-nicks.info/ |

Couple things I'd like to mention to try to defend John Kinney a bit -
wish me luck! 1.) Stevie picked Nicksfix as the official home page herself. I believe it says this right in the liner notes for Trouble in Shangri-la. She knew him from "back in the day" when he was a photographer and from what I've heard, feels very comfortable with him for that reason. She feels that the "laid-back" atmosphere of the website matches her persona very well, it seems. 2.) As far as I know at least, there are NO other websites for a pop or rock star where they have ever even HAD such a thing as "Ask Stevie," or a chat room. And there's VERY few that have a fan mail address where at least at one point in time - lasting for over a decade - you had a REAL chance of getting a message to her. (A birthday greeting, for example.) Try sending a birthday greeting or a request for an autograph to Madonna's people and see what kind of response you get. And seriously - check out some official websites belonging to artists of similar caliber - Cindy Lauper maybe, or Britney Spears. They're glorified ads whose sole purpose is to try to sell you more crap. They don't care and they certainly don't even try to give the impression of caring. i.m.o. of course. 3.) There's whole sections of Nicksfix that you guys may not even know about. For example, in a more-or-less UN-official section he has pages and pages of dynamite photographs that he's taken as part of his volunteer work with greeting the soldiers returning to Dallas from Iraq. 4.) As near as I can make out, for various reasons Stevie's management (HK) has taken over TOTAL control of Nicksfix. ANYTHING John puts up has to be approved by them. Maybe that causes a delay but it also means that any news you're getting there is actual, official news. Remember, more often than not rumors of deals being made surface before they're actually signed on the dotted line - and MANY of them end up being cancelled. If you see it posted on the Fix you can be sure it's happening for real. Or you can keep looking forward to Sheryl Crow joining Fleetwood Mac for this next tour, as Stevie info. first reported. 5.) John takes DYNAMITE photographs. In my personal opinion, they're the best photos of Stevie in concert ever taken. 6.) Who do you think is paying for this, ultimately? Notice, there are NO ads. (Except admittedly a link to Chris Nicks's website and one to Stevie's new merch. site.) Anyway, ask yourselves this, please - - - Do you guys REALLY want this thing taken over by a mega-corporation? I guarantee you, if and when that happens, the FIRST thing that will go is the chat room and the fan mail address. Next will be the e-mail to contact somebody to ask questions or make suggestions or get info. Then they'll kill Ask Stevie permanently. Enjoy all the flashing lights and bells and modern flash movies that all of the friendliness and "Stevie-like" atmosphere will be replaced with..... http://www.madonna.com/ http://www.britneyspears.com (The link to Buy More Crap from Madonna is on the upper right. Britney's links are even easier to find, including for her new perfume. If you're wondering, Britney's Official Website is owned and operated by the Brandcasting Limited Corporation. Madonna's is owned and operated by Ultrastar Entertainment LLC. Perhaps some day Stevie's Lawyers will work out a Legal Agreement with their Lawyers.) |

Thank you for your insight. I see your point. It is a more personal site compared to others. And my post wasn't meant to be critical of anyone. I just wish it was updated more- giving a better glimpse into what Stevie is up to on a current basis. |
Even label-run sites are a joke.....Chris Isaak's hasn't been updated in years!

Oh I know - - - I hope I didn't come across as pissy or something. It's just that I know that MANY Stevie fans feel dissatisfied with Stevie's site, and I feel that (unrelated to this dissatisfaction), the site IS eventually going to be replaced with a more "corporate" one run by a company like those I mentioned. (Ultrastar, etc.) And I feel that people are going to be even less-satisfied with that, when it happens. |
As more artists sign onto these 360 deals with labels or live nation or whatever, the more corporate their sites will become pushing everything about the artist in your face... but for a price. It's all about selling you the fan something. How I understand it is that these 360 deals are structured so that the label or entity (Live Nation) has their hands in every pot of your artistry. It won't just be the music these artists release anymore - cause there's no much money in it... It'll include the tours they go on, the merchandise they sell - and it includes the web component.

Guess John is busy.
John probabily recognises that this site is more up to date, &, does he not have the time to try to upstage this site as the information is almost instantly updated thanks to all the fanatical "ledgies",
(actually if we were "bikers" we would be 1%ers)....g.... |
I'm not sure why the Nicksfix doesn't get updated. I wish that whoever was in charge would care about the site a little more. I would love to have that job! :)
It's almost as weird as all the date changes for the Soundstage, you know, time is not the most important thing here which is sad! |
