That's Alright has been voted off!
Vote for your FAVORITE song! Let's see who our winner of the Mirage Face Off will be, and join the rest in the winners circle! :) After this we will do our last set of polls, for Tango In The Night. Mirage Album Gypsy Hold Me Previous Winners: Rhiannon The Chain Sisters Of The Moon |
Hold Me.
Better Harmonies, plus I prefer immensly the extended version of Gypsy. |
Gypsy will win.
I can't say that I've ever heard a decent live version of Hold Me. The smooth harmonies are studio made and can't be replicated on-stage |
"Lightning strikes... maybe once... maybe twice! And it lights up the night! And you see your gypsy!"
Stevie looks and sounds beautiful here...And Lindsey's guitar solo at the end is stellar. Fleetwood Mac at its best. |
The Dance version of Gypsy is probably one of my favs, but not many people seem to like it that much

As for the best album version... I voted for Hold Me. I love Gypsy just as equally, but I prefer the '82 music video version, with Lindsey's extended guitar solo.
|
That Mirage version of Gypsy gets me every time I see it. She starts off on a brighter note and then takes it and the listener into darkness with her "bright eyes --- bright eyes . . . . " I cried the first billion times I saw that.
I also love this version: and this one: http://www.yousendit.com/download/TT...UEMwVWxjR0E9PQ It's very different, but I love it. |
Gypsy is the initial reason I became a Fleetwood Mac fan. The song an d the video. Both were magic!

I voted Hold Me but they are both up there with the very cream of Mac stuff so I could have gone either way really.
|
My favourite song is Eyes Of The World. So I didn't vote.

they're both such excellent productions, such excellent tracks, that I don't know which one to vote in (or out). To find engineering & arrangements this clever & this energetically good, one would have to go back to "Mama's Pearl" or "The Love You Save" ten years earlier.
It's a mark of GYPSY's amazing sound & style that the nasally, bleating lead vocal (straying repeatedly off key) doesn't make you flinch more than once -- twice at most -- so I'll vote for GYPSY. The levels are controlled so well that the track sounds equally great in a car, on a home stereo, in headphones, or blasting out of outdoor amplifiers. |

Now - the live versions, though some are compelling - OY - most sound like a dorm bathroom after chilli night in the mess hall   |
no matter the quality of the recording...this gypsy is my fav
|
Gypsy...pure magic.

I guess we all knew it would be Gypsy. Is the version that is on the box set the one everyone calls the extended version? There is a catch or lilt in her voice about 3/4 of the way thru the song on one of her ahhhhhhhs that is so compelling and heartfelt and unlike anything I have ever heard from any singer on a recording.
I really think that the 3 contributions from Stevie on Mirage are better than anything from the other 2. And I do not say this because I am a "chiffonhead". I do not follow her career with blinders on. She was mostly terrible on Tango and Chris shined the most. Linds was best on Tusk and all 3equally on Rumours, again Christine shines most on the white album. Anyway Stevie was at her most seductive and had her best years range wise from 81-83 and it shows on Mirage. Glad she won. Tango should be interesting so bring it on. |

-- it was awe inspiring and the SNL one is better IMO, but I could not find it. |
That is awesome Strand thanks for posting I have never seen this.
You know Stevie just fascinates me on so many differnet levels. How many performers of her stature would allow a back up singer to share center stage with them? Is that Sharon? I always get the back up singers confused. Anyway her average voice just emphasizes how spectacular Stevie's is. She really sounds terrific here, this was always my least fav from WH but I like it more on this live version. Also love the SB performenace from solid gold. Wasn't she like the first or even the only artist they allowed to perform live? Wonder if she insisted on this because she is terrible at lip synching as she has said many times. Or if she just does not like the phoney aspect of it. |

Try to find the Saturday Night Live versions of the same songs. They are stellar too. |

I voted for Hold Me... Just cause I want a Chris song to get some lovin! (She should've won out on the White Album, IMO). I was pretty sure it wouldn't stand up against Gypsy though. Aw well.
I'm rooting for a Lindsey one to win Tango... but I'm not seeing that happening, as usual. Eh, he's a self-confessed non-commercial artist, so the popular vote is probably never going to lean in his favor. What can ya do? |
