newyawka 10-24-2008 08:36 PM

yes, i want to vote off i still miss someone

fleetwoodtrick 10-24-2008 08:38 PM

Awww, I don't have this CD. D: The only song I know/have on here is Rooms on Fire. I guess I'll just have to wait until the last round, if RoF makes it. :distress:

michelej1 10-24-2008 08:51 PM

I know that Two Kinds of Love has got to be one of the first to go, for a number of reasons: one for the way it walks and one for . . .

As for I Still Miss Someone, I don't usually like covers, but whenever Stevie sings about blue eyes, I get sort of weak and gooey inside. So, I want that one to WIN!

I love this album, but the two cover songs are absolutely worthless.

One more for I Still Miss Someone... I actually thought it was kind of beautiful that you excluded it from the poll in the first place, until you said it was an accident. I thought we might not have to even bother voting for it.

Ah well. More than happy to oblige. ;)

GoldDustOrphan 10-25-2008 12:06 AM

I Still Miss Someone.

It has to go first.

macpai 10-25-2008 12:42 AM

I don't really need to hear Alice or Cry Wolf ever again in my lifetime. So those two will be my early causes.

I don't have it either, but from what I've heard, it probably wouldn't be my favourite. On the other hand, may Alice live forever, in all of its tacky beauty!

Phoenix 10-25-2008 02:38 AM

I love Alice. Especially live. and am tired of people clammering about how "two kinds of love's "one for the way you walk and one for the way you love me" line doesnt make sense. It makes perfect sense.

#1 for the way you walk. i.e. more of a physical attraction. you can be attracted to someones walk, strut, swagger, its sexy. How you would think of a lover, or even a stranger on the street that you pass and think is hot.

#2 One for the way you love me. People can love their parents or their childeren, and it has nothing (hopefully) to do with a sexual "love". like a love that you have for a very best friend.

Combining the two = a really special relation ship, like those old adorable coupples who have been married for years and years and still have the hotts for eachother, but have that deeper love because they know eachother so well, and genuinly care.

thats the kind of relationship that i hope to have someday. Not just a friend, and not just a lover, but both.

~Two kinds of love, one for the way you walk, and one for the way you love me~

The other line of this song that breaks my heart is this one...

...engaged to each other in their hearts...
But they live apart...

I think its just one of those songs that has to hit you at the right time.

Ooh and on you run...
You search for love...and you hate searching
You wait for love...and you hate waiting...
You say, "I hate this!"
Well it's just another test...
'Cause there are two kinds of love.
To do the thing that we do the best...
My masterpiece...

Who in the world do you think that you are fooling?
Well I've already done everything that you are doing
Well the two of us, well we must be...
A great temptation to have even started
Well don't you know, as you walk on by
That great temptations never really die...

Phoenix 10-25-2008 02:58 AM

Plus, I love Bruce Hornsby. Vally Road, every little kiss, thats just the way it is, mandalin rain, these were always favorite songs of mine, and when id make mixed cds of them id include two kinds of love.
Last but not least, I always thought she looked stunning on the cover of this single...

Yes I think it was fate that you missed off "I Still Miss Someone" it has to go first. :)

Musicman408 10-25-2008 08:07 AM

I don't understand the TKOL hate. I love that song. I voted Fire Burning... I do no like that song. Not much there.

nailatixela 10-25-2008 08:19 AM

I Stil Miss Someone is my vote. It has to go first even though it's not there - it's the worst!

Chrislit18 10-25-2008 09:10 AM

Aww, I LOVE I still miss someone. [although I HATE Johnny Cash...]

but anyways, I picked 2 kinds of love.
I don't like it, the rest of the songs are tolerable. Not this one.
Nope.

I want Whole Lotta Trouble to win

chriskisn 10-25-2008 09:25 AM

I want Doing The Best That I Can to win. One of my favourite Stevie songs, and probably one of the songs that really got me into her. Guaranteed it won't stand a chance though.

Also this album probably has Stevie's sexiest album cover. Just love that pic!

Enchanted_Stevi 10-25-2008 09:35 AM

OK....so just an F.Y.I. Round 2 wont start til tomorrow...because I'm leaving for my dad's house in 2 hours...and I might be sleeping over.

I don't take "walk" literally. I interpret it to mean more, 'one for the way you walk away and one for the way you stay and love me.' Just based on the rest of the song, I don't think she chose that line to talk about the guy's sexy little walk. There's nothing else about looks or attitude or sexual desire in the song and I don't think the "walk" part is about that either.

"Estranged sometimes for their survival," and the "walk on by" lines (as well as the comments she has made about loving someone even though you have to leave them -- like her and Joe and the drugs), make me see the song more about being madly in love with someone that you can't stay with. The love is deep, but together they would destroy each other, or watch the other one be destroyed. So, they part.

So, even when they aren't together, great temptations never really die. I see the two kinds of love as the love that's strong enough to leave, as well as the love that's enduring enough to stay or return.

So, I don't think that lyric is as stupid as many people do, but I still don't really like the song.

I hate Cry Wolf.

Michele

Cry Wolf has to go

I vote for cry wolf to go and Two kinds of love to stay for awhile...;)

fleetwoodtrick 10-25-2008 05:40 PM

I Still Miss Someone.

I just got these tracks today (thanks to the great one, Chris. ;)) And I have concluded that I don't really like that song. But i like most of the others, so this will be hard!

PoetofRhiannon 10-25-2008 08:28 PM

...

Personally, I cannot see how any of you can actually "hate" a Stevie song.

Talk To Me stole my woman and burned my bible.

I really didn't care for this album too much. The only songs I like on it are "rooms on fire, "whole lotta trouble", and Alice. I really wasn't too crazy about her version of my favorite Johnny Cash song, "i still miss someone". This record wasn't my favorite, but I know that it should be because I am such a huge fan of the story "alice in wonderland", and how she sorta portrays herself as Alice in a way threw the album. It's almost a concept album in a way, and I like concept albums. Ones that have sort of a story line too them. You are taking a journey in a way, to their world. I like that. But this record just really doesn't do anything for me, and I don't know why. I will keep listening to it though. Maybe a door will open and shed some light my way.

She sets a higher standard, so it's exponentially disappointing when you feel something is a clunker.
"Hate" is too strong a word for me. I prefer "never have to listen to it again as long as I am drawing breath."

LOL. You know, I do listen to the clunkers every now and then, just to make sure I still hate them. There's always a slight chance that I might change my mind -- even more than 20 years later.
