Favorite Stevie lyrics

I am new here so don't smack me around if this question has been asked:xoxo:

I am working on a scrap book of stevie and I would love to know what some of your favorite lyrics from her are and why?

Any other things that might help me make a kick ass scrap book would be appreciated. I have been lurking for sometime and I love this board.

I last saw Stevie in Boston On June 22 and I can't even explain how spellbound I was. I was the closest I have ever been to her, 9th row and my husband met Many Moore who opened up for her, I have photo's, can I share them here?

Anyway I would love to know this question. Mine has to be Mistaken Love, The entire song is just so moving " I never did love easily but I easily loved you"
man she is just awesome. I have to admit that I find her demos amazing and have always wondered why she never released these songs, Like OOh Baby, these are amazing and very intense love songs I feel.
Thanks for helping:);)

"Oh, mirror in the sky, what is love? Can the child within my heart rise above? Can I sail through the changing ocean tides? Can I handle the seasons of my life? I don't know. Well I've been afraid of changing because I built my life around you. But time makes you bolder, children get older, I'm getting older too."

It's only me who wants to wrap around your dreams
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?
Dreams of loneliness
Like a heartbeat drives you mad
In the stillness of remembering what you had
And what you lost

These are my favorite lines because they're quietly sexy, they portend maturity, they paint an image & create a sound, & they employ a skillful economy of means.

"Are you happy? Yes, I am...
Do I know you love me now? Yes, I do...
Do I know you cannot stay? I know, all about love...
All about love..."

I love this because it seems so sad and so honest. She's accepting that someone has to leave, and says that she knows 'all about love' (in other words, how love never seems to work out).

Gee, hope that doesn't happen to me!

michelej1 10-01-2008 09:24 PM

All of Angel. Pretty much all of Sorcerer. From tired, thirsty and wild eyed to the snow dream. And in between . . .

There's a thread called sexy photos, but I think Come over, let me put you on ice is a very sexy lyric.

You prefer to be a little bit in and out of love with me . . .You prefer to be just a little bit in and out of agony.

Michele

I also love this:

"You can sit outside his door and wait...
Well, you can dedicate your pain to him..."

Who hasn't ever sat outside someone's door and waited? Oh wait, that's stalking..

LiamMcConville 10-01-2008 10:04 PM

I hope you find a love, your own designs of love...

Another gem: I've shaken your faith in me. No, you've shaken my faith in everything else.

Love is a word,
Some entertain it.
If you find it.
You have won the game.

and

You fell in love
When I was only ten
The years pass by
Much has gone by since then
I bite my lip
Can you send me away?
You touch I have no choice
I have to stay

CADreaming 10-01-2008 10:41 PM

Too trusting, yes, but then women usually are
***
I wouldn't trade you for jade or for diamonds
***
And it all comes down to you,
well you know that it does
Lightning strikes maybe once, maybe twice
Oh, and it lights up the night
And you see your gypsy...
I still see your bright eyes

***
I know you know
Watching you go
Is like dying, is like dying

***
Is love so fragile
and the heart so hollow?

***
Come to me now and I'll never know another
You are song for me and melody
Ingrained in my soul
Sing, sing your song
For my ears they only hear you
If I never knew the likes of you
Where would I be
Without you?

rocknalittle 10-02-2008 12:21 AM

So hard...

This one had me thinking for a while. I have to say first off, Stevie is a poet like no other, the words and rymes that she creates are beautiful and filled with high meaning, and I hold them very near and dear to my heart... I could never-ever really narrow it down to one song, one lyric, one line, or one note!!! Never!!! Being that I am an open gay male, I can really relate to Stevie with her love/loss situations in her songs (as Iam sure everyone can). When you get involved with a "straight man" you endure some pain, even more so when the relationship falls apart, because it can never work out... Stevie always shines through in the end, no matter how painful or however long it takes her, she comes back with a vengence, and shows us that it is possible... So, a favorite Stevie lyric of mine is as follows...

"I knew him another way, I knew him another day...
In some ways he'd forgotten me, In many ways he got to me...
I turned aways so he couldn't see, I turned away it could never be...
I never thought he would walk away, but I lost him again yesterday...."

Richard B 10-02-2008 12:22 AM

Fire on fire...rain on my face
Fever goes higher...what can you do
Wild in the darkest places of your mind
That's where I needed you
Where I needed you most

GypsySorcerer 10-02-2008 11:36 AM

How the faces of love have changed, turning the pages
And I have changed
Oh, but you...you remain ageless
I turned around
And the water was closing all around
Like a glove
Like the love that had finally, finally found me

I haven't felt this way I feel
Since many a year ago
But in those years and the lifetimes past
I did not deal with the road
And I did not deal with you I know
Though the love has always been
So I search to find an answer there
So I can truly win

Well...have you come to see
That my face is not seen
Ooo...outside my frost covered windows
Oh and just how deep...
Do you hold that dream
In your hands each night

Ugh, most of my faves have been said.
I love the chorus to 'Affairs of the Heart'.

"You're not like other people, you do what you want to". maybe not the words themsleves, but how she sings them.

"I'm old enough to love you from afar" :xoxo:

"I still see you're bright eyes, and it all comes down to you"

"Something in my heart died last night, just one more chip off an already broken heart"

"Let the walls burn down, set your secrets free"/"You can set you're secrets free, baby" [I know she didn't write them, but whatever]

"There are too many flowers to cut down for the love I had for your life"

"Rulers make bad lovers, you better put your kingdom up for sale"

"I still look up when you walk in the room, I've the same wide eyes, now they tell stories"

"I have loved many women, I have many times run away"

And soo many more I could think of :)

"Dreams unwind... love's a state of mind."

"In the eye of a storm, when all the light is gone, there is lightning"

"Here I go again, I see some crystal visions, I keep my visions to myself."

"Maybe you thought that I'd never change, but you know I'm changing... you're wrong... and it's been like dying. No love's that hard to find, and I'm tired of trying."

"Take on the situation but no the torment. You know it's not as bad as it seems."

wheart 10-02-2008 04:45 PM

"something in my heart died last night, just one more chip off an already broken heart"

"if you tell me one more time come on baby, take it easy, well you won't see me ever again"

"and I see you doing what I try to do for me, with the words from a poet, and a voice from a choir, and a melody"

Life gave me you, yeah
The change was made
There's no beginning over
You are not happy, but what is love?
Hate gave you me for a lover

In a flood of tears
That no one really ever heard fall at all ...

And a memory is all
that is left for you now
You see your gypsy...

It was easy to say
I believed in you everyday
If not for me
Then do it for the world...

She is like a cat in the dark
And then she is the darkness
She rules her life like a fine skylark
And when the sky is starless ..

Never did I mean to Imprison you
Here in my garden
Like I am imprisoned
All the love I have for your life
All the love I have for your life
Turn around ..

So I'll begin not to love you...
Turn around, you'll see me runnin'
I'll say I loved you years ago...
And tell myself you never loved me....No......

So I close my eyes softly
Til I become that part of the wind
That we all long for sometime....

In my distress...well I wanted someone to blame me
In my devastation...I wanted so to change
In my way...disaster was the only thing that I could depend on...

There are way to many.I could go on and on. This reply would be too long :)

Liza 10-05-2008 06:16 AM

So many lyrics, so many it's hard to decide, they are all wonderful.

And sometimes...when they ask her about the men in her life... she says, 'well, they are poets...and yet they are priests of nothing... aah, but they are legends.' And I thought that there was a... connection.

Sanne2 10-05-2008 06:58 AM

What you did not need was a woman
Who was stronger
You needed someone to depend on you
I could not be her
I did not want to
My first mistake was to smile at you
Smile at you

Go on save yourself
Leave the key here
You love someone else
I shouldn't be here
Don't ask me why
You know the answer
If she's so willing, little one
There was no chance there

Timeless is the creature who is wise
And timeless is the prisoner in disguise

Ty everyone who helped

I loved looking through the lyrics and saying "Oh yeah I remember that" so Ty all who helped. I was also thinking about the Lyrics from "If I where you"

I know what you're dreaming when you sleep
You have secrets I will always keep
And in every morning when we arise
I see my reflection in your eyes

Every boy must learn to be a man
Maybe I can help you, yes I can

Travis 10-06-2008 06:47 AM

“Take on the situation but not the torment, now you know it’s not as bad as it seems” THINK ABOUT IT

“If it's me that's driving you to this madness
Then there's one thing that I'd like to say
Take a look at your life and your lovers
Nothing ever changes”
NOTHING EVER CHANGES

“Nobody's right baby all the time
And a fool never knows what he's leaving behind
So take some time to know the real story
Cause a soul that's true is your ride to glory”
SISTER HONEY

“When I see you again,
As I always do
It appears to me that
Destiny rules
And the spirits are ruthless with the paths they choose
It's not being together,
It's just following the rules
No one's a fool...”
DESTINY RULES

I agree! I think this is a really great thread...

It's awesome to see which lyrics are meaningful to other Stevie fans. Reading through all these passages reminds me what a great lyricist and poet Stevie is... her words are incredibly empowering!

beautiful

I have been reading the different lyrics people have shared. There are so many beautiful ones by Ms. Nicks, it's very soothing to read and to hear in the heart.
I've always loved Storms and Fireflies.

To be the last to leave, the last to be gone,
stolen from the ones who hung on to it.

and

Every night that goes between I feel a little less
As you slowly go away from me
This is only another test

Tellurium 10-06-2008 01:54 PM

Fantastic choices all!

But I suppose with Stevie it's hard to go wrong.

"And the days go by like a strand in the wind.
In the web that is my own, I begin again."

"They go into the sea that has no shore
Haunted by that same closed door
Looking up at skies on fire
Leaving nothing left of us
To discover."

"THin and wavering on a wind blown night
Who's honour, who's anger
Cold and quivering
As was the wind blown night
Into which she'd fallen"

I could go on for a while...

michelej1 10-06-2008 03:21 PM

When love starts out in the darkness,
It doesn't do well in the light.
Affairs of the heart
That start out in the dark
Usually stay with the night.

You will remember
But I will die a slow death
It's only an overture
To something that was best
And don't condescend to me
Take your leave
Take your leave
Take your leave of me now
Disappear into the air
I wish you gone
And I don't care
I don't care
I don't care
Take your leave of me now

I find it curious that she says her angriest song is Fall From Grace. Maybe she means she gets the angriest while singing it because no lyric in that song can compare to this F*** You sentiment.

Tellurium 10-06-2008 04:57 PM

Yes, she's referred to Planets as her meanest song ever too... I always thought Smile at You was pretty brutal, personally. It's all subjective I guess.

I had to add:

"So where is my father?
Where has he gone?
And where is my husband?
And where is my son?
Where is my father?
Where has he gone?
What is this that's happened here?
Is this real... this war
This can't be happening"

more beloved lyrics

You--beloved
Were to me - everything
That love stood for
To love one another for awhile
Was enough -
It was all that I lived for
How can I go on without you
Can I go on - without you

I went forth

Wasn't that I didn't love you
But I just couldn't make you see
As hard as I tried to make it all better
It was not better for me.

The love that I gave you was all around
There was nothing left for me,
I didn't say it
But I saw it coming
My feelings were changing:angel:

From OTOTM
Love that album...
