Atlantic City: GoS Tour - 10/11/08
Hey guys. Finally decided to get my tickets for the Atlantic City show!
Is anyone else going? If so, does anyone have any good tips/recommendations on hotels??? |
I'm going!
AC is a resort town, so there are plenty of nice hotels in the area. There's even one in the building Lindsey is playing in (Trump Taj Mahal). The downside is that since it's a weekend, the prices are pretty high running over $300 a night. The other downside is that aside from the resort hotels and a few higher end chains in the area, the rest of the hotels are pretty shady. The higher end chains run about the same a night as the resorts and I wouldn't recommend anything much cheaper in the immediate area. You may be able to find some affordable rates in the surrounding towns, but I would read online reviews carefully before booking. I'm excited about this show! Curious how it's going to go, since casinos tend to reserve tickets for high rollers. |
I'm going too. But we're not staying on, we're driving back to Newark.
|
I might have to get rid of my three tickets (seventh row, center section, aisle seats) because my sister has been in the ICU for the last two weeks now and mosy likely will be in no shape to go by then....
if anyone is interested please let me know....(would sell for what I bought them for...face value) |
Ac
The Sheraton by the convention center has the best rates. Try and book a "Club Floor" Room it's only a couple bucks more but includes access to a lounge with computer, breakfast, and snacks all day long. The rooms are quieter too. I stayed there this summer when I went to a couple Eagles concerts at the Borgata.
Good points. It's within walking distance of the bus terminal, the boardwalk, and major shopping outlet stores. It's just across the street from the train station (which you don't hear from from the rooms) and all A.C. jitneys and taxis stop there too. If I remember the Taj is on the boardwalk within walking distance but the jitney will take you for $2 each way. The jitneys are free for people disembarking from the trains. It is possible, if you learn the train schedules to ride for free. Address is Miss America Way. Carol-Lynn |
I wish I were going, but my husband has to work that Saturday.
We always stay @ the Comfort Inn on Kentucky Ave. & walk if the venue is on The Boardwalk. I'm not sure how far away the Taj is in relation to the hotel, but we have walked all the way to House of Blues from this motel. I like this motel because it's cheap, close to the Boardwalk & has a Jacuzzi tub in every room. Have a good time! And if you get a chance, check out the mall off The Boardwalk. My favorite store is the candy store! Lee :) |
The Taj is next to Showboat, which is where House of Blues is, so if House of Blues is walkable from that Comfort Inn, so is the Taj. :) It's kind of interesting Lindsey isn't playing the AC HOB, since he's playing others.
I think I looked at the rates for that particular hotel and they were either high or rooms weren't available (it IS Columbus Day weekend, which doesn't help). |
There is a new hotel called the Chelsea. It's on the other end of the Boardwalk (not, in my opinion, comfortably walkable to the Taj unless you give yourself a few hours head start, but I'm sure it's jitney available).
Anyway, they have a special, through Travelzoo, for $199 a night. For the weekend, in Atlantic City? That's pretty good. http://hotels.travelzoo.com/lodging-hotels/467038 |
Well... I'm having trouble figuring out how to get to Atlantic City and get a hotel. I have two tickets. Should I try to sell them or what? Grrr... I'm so impulsive in my purchases.
|
Don't give up yet.
Do you have to come by car? Because I'm sure there are good directions online. If you don't come by car, you have LOTS of choices in the way of buses. You're from NYC? You can either take Greyhound (which leaves Port Authority ever 1/2 hour, I believe) or Academy bus (you can also get it at Port Authority or East 86th Street). That runs every hour. http://www.academybus.com For schedules and fares. It takes a little over 2 hours, usually, to go directly to Atlantic City. You either want to get off at the Taj directly (if they are offering it), or Showboat or Resorts (all within spitting distance of the Taj). The hotels? Well, we gave some suggestions, but I believe Priceline offers AC hotels, too. You might get a pretty good deal because it's so close to the weekend. (But that's bidding for a room, not just doing a random search). I would not sell your tickets at this point because you probably won't get your money back. I'm in the same boat there, with NYC tickets. If you don't mind staying up a bit, you could take the earliest bus back home...they run all night. Or you could hang out in a casino for a while until the sun comes up and then leave. |

Buckingham's Gift: Guitarist Shows Solo Side at the Taj Lindsey Buckingham plans to be plugged in this weekend at the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort. The Fleetwood Mac guitarist - without his famous bandmates - is touring in support of his new solo album, "Gift of Screws" (Reprise). Buckingham, the de facto musical leader of the Mac, brings his rock side to the fore with this new release, which also features contributions from fellow band members Mick Fleetwood and John McVie. "This is probably the most rock 'n' roll album I've ever made," Buckingham says. "It probably sounds like I'm getting ready to break a string here and there." In addition to discussing the new album, Buckingham talked about the blurred lines between his group and solo work, how his prodigious guitar skills have evolved over the years, and the rumor that Sheryl Crow would join Fleetwood Mac for a 2009 tour. (Quick version: It's not happening.) Q: With so much material, especially from the Mac, how difficult is it to make a setlist? A: Obviously there are certain things you need to do because people expect that. We are trying to include some stuff that we've never done that's from past solo albums, and we're just trying to shake it up as much as we can. Q: Having recorded just five solo albums over the past four decades, do you consider yourself a perfectionist? A: I am a perfectionist, sure. However, you have to put it in the context of someone who is - except for a period of time when I left in the late '80s just because I couldn't stand the environment anymore - a member of Fleetwood Mac. You have to put that in the context of doing albums, and yet being responsive to the needs of the whole as a group. Q: Speaking of Fleetwood Mac, can you address the speculation that Sheryl Crow would join the band? A: When it came to contemplate working next year with Fleetwood Mac, (we) had this idea that bringing someone in like Sheryl Crow would be an intriguing idea. I think Stevie put out the feelers and asked if she would be interested. That's about as far as it got. It was a hypothetical. When Sheryl was doing press for her album, she took it upon herself to announce to the world that she was joining Fleetwood Mac. She had made a choice to announce something which had not even been decided, which was in itself inappropriate. I think that what happened out of that particular episode has all been good. Stevie and I ... have been having some really wonderful conversations about how to approach next year, and how to do it in a manner in which everybody's mantra is about acknowledging the love that we have for each other, and the road we've been down, and to try to keep any individual agendas to a minimum and get out there and rock and have a good time. Q: After all these years, do you have any clearer idea of where a Lindsey Buckingham song ends and Fleetwood Mac material begins? A: I think more often than not what defines it as a Fleetwood Mac song is as much dictated by the politics of the band, and what they are receptive to. There are certainly things that seem like they are more suited for what I do on the side, but there's certainly a lot of crossover. Q: Have you found that you're discovering new things about your (guitar) technique or about the instrument itself? A: In some ways I feel like I'm probably at the height of my creative game. Whether or not you're reaching people is another matter, but it does feel to me like I keep evolving and growing. Lindsey Buckingham WHEN: 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11 WHERE: Arena, Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort, Atlantic City HOW MUCH: Tickets, priced at $38.50 and $48.50, are available at the Taj box office or Ticketmaster at 800-736-1420 or www.ticketmaster.com. So who all is actually going to be there? I'll be in Row M, center section (I think!), probably wearing a peach shirt, so say hi if you see me!
|
i will be there wearing a black shirt section 103 row F
|
look right behind you during IKINW. I guess I'm wearing a black shirt with a frog on it. If you don't recognise me during his papapapa's I'll be eating a broom instead.
Prepare for an awesome show. Reading was impeccable. |
Wow, what a great show! The venue was a bit odd, just a room with chairs set up and not overly full, but I thought the crowd was pretty great and by the end of the night, Lindsey seemed to agree! He was in quite a jovial mood, bantering a bit with the folks close to the stage during the encores and laughing. It took a little while for everyone to warm up but by the end of "I'm So Afraid", people had started to flood the front and were totally into it and Lindsey seemed to be loving it. I started in the second to last row of the front section, and worked my way up little by little and was quite close to the stage by the end and SO excited to be up there! Seeing Lindsey live has been a long time coming for me and it's just surreal that it finally happened!
My favorite song of the show was "Big Love", I just sat there grinning like an idiot, whenever my mouth wasn't just hanging open. It was exhilirating and mesmerizing to watch! Also loved hearing "Never Going Back Again" live, I'm sure for those that have seen Lindsey numerous times this one is getting old but I am very glad he still plays it. Loved "Come" and "I'm So Afraid" because they just rock, and really enjoyed "Shut Us Down" more live than I do on the album. The only song that kind of stuck out to me was "World Turning", but it's fun so whatevs. I feel like I should have more to say but it's not coming to me right now! I do have a few pictures though! http://photos-d.ak.facebook.com/phot...26091_2646.jpg http://photos-f.ak.facebook.com/phot...26093_5843.jpg http://photos-g.ak.facebook.com/phot...26094_6101.jpg http://photos-h.ak.facebook.com/phot...26095_7872.jpg http://photos-a.ak.facebook.com/phot...26096_7674.jpg http://photos-c.ak.facebook.com/phot...26098_1563.jpg Really such a great show! I'm so excited I have plans to see Lindsey again next week in NYC! |
Fabulous time!! Love how the dedicated fans just kinda moved their way to the front. Lindsey (and Brett) really seemed to have a great time. I know I did!! Look forward to Nokia!
I really loved NGBA too. SHN was a total blast I was standing on chairs in the front row by then and rocking out like a go-go dancer. I would swear both Lindsey and Brett made eye contact. |
I went. Had a great time. Got front row ticket upgrade.
I can't wait for next weeks' show when I won't be drunk! |

I know, he really packs the emotion into Shut Us Down live and he started changing the performance during the UTS tour. It really gained something. It's not a favorite of mine, but I like it more than on the album and I love that LB seems to have strong feelings for it. Great review. Thanks. Michele |

You're right, it was just a fun party at that part. I was pogoing during GYOW haha. |
With the exception of the couple who kept having the security guards tell everyone in section 103 to sit down (the gentleman then hit my shoulder and rather viciously hissed "you'd better tell your friend to sit down OR ELSE!" re: an enthusiastic woman I'd just met) until GYOW and SHN (!!!), it really was a great, enthusiastic night overall.
Uptempo "Trouble" and "Go Insane" were a nice, surprising change. He did "Treason" AND "Time Precious Time" -- nice in my opinion, because I'm not too thrilled about TPT, but think "Treason" is lovely. And it was great to hear "Don't Look Down" live ... I have always loved the live versions from the OOTC tour. I know there are only a few shows left, but please, more OOTC, Lindsey! (Please?) "Come" seemed less energetic than it was on the SYW tour. The crowd in the end was indeed (as the above posts indicate) really into it, and Lindsey was, of course, pleased. One bit of hilarity: while some people were shouting "Johnny Stew!" and "Bwana!" (to which Lindsey asked "Should I take requests? Nah, I'll just do what I planned," or something like that), two young men standing near me shouted "Landslide!" In matters unrelated to a concert review, I lost $65 at the casino, which for me is essentially the equivalent of winning. ;) Looking forward to next week's shows ... |

Sounds like everyone had a good show though. I'm really looking foward to the 14th  |

I love the way he's doing Come and really prefer it over the SYW tour, but I can pretty much say that about all the songs he's done on both tours. Heh. This tour just blows SYW and UTS out of the water. |
My bf's amazing 30-second video

My bf's amazing pictures

Excellent photos and video!! That first pic is a kicker. Hee!

Yep, def. my fave (and now my av.) |
Here's GYOW, the high energy isn't quite translating, but I still love having it. And the grasping fan hands are so cool.

I was one of those hands *sniffle*
|
Thanks for the great pix and video! I saw my hand for a second. Got to say that that was one of the weirdest shows ever though. I guess Casino shows tend to be strange. Especially when the little old lady ushers would tell you to sit down! But honestly, you really could just walk up to the front of the stage and say "hello" all by yourself, if you had the gumption to. No one would have been too quick on the draw. Hopefully the Keswick venue will offer a better atmosphere. In regards to Lindsey, the set-list could still use some tweaking, like who needs Tusk anymore or a drum solo, and I really would have loved to hear Wait For You. It was great hearing all the new songs he did however, plus Go Insane!; and Treason and Shut Us Down were beautiful.

My sis loved Tusk and the drum solo ... so I guess that's why they're in there, for more "passive" fans like her. |
I loved Tusk and the drum solo, but would definitely have preferred Twist of Fate and Shuffle Riff. Oops, and I was getting good at calling them by their "right" names now, too. Did he do that just to throw us all off?
|
Quote:
I appreciate the drum solo because it gives Lindsey time to rest without leaving the stage. But other than that, I would drop it. Michele |
Here's another.
