My Review

I just listened to Gift of Screws from start to end and it does rock.Besides the tracks we know and love (Wait for You, The Right Place To Fade and the title tracks) This a fantastic disc. Love Runs Deeper is probably my fav. It rocks with a "Fleetwood Mac" sound. You would thin Stevie and Christine are singing along.Undergound and Treason also have that same feel. Great Day reminds me of Play in the Rain. The guitar work is very familar.I'm sure everyone will know why Lindsey said this album the rocker. If you compare this to UTS it totaly does. Love Runs Deeper is my pick

michelej1 08-15-2008 11:28 AM

Well, several people have singled Love Runs Deeper out and I find myself looking forward to it.

Well thank you for sharing your review. I'm very appreciative to those who have heard the album and are sharing tidbits/opinions. I enjoy that kind of stuff as it makes me even more excited about this release.

TrueFaith77 08-22-2008 12:56 AM

well i'm guessng they're saving "Deep Dense" for the mac album. WOW. I'm surprised. but pleased. we know there's at least one more great mac track in our future.

and, yes, thank you for sharing. i can't wait. -John

Yes, but sharing the tracks with us would be even better. We're all gonna buy the CD anyway.

I have to say I was kinda thinking that myself. I love to hear it earlier than the release date. Just because were real Lindsey fans.
But its something to look forward to.
I wish though there was a bit more press & advertising, reviews etc etc. Just to build it up a bit more.

Thank you for the review Bly! And just ignore mylittledemon. He is KNOWN for his impatience! ;) Not everyone that visits or lurks on this site will buy the CD anyway--although I believe he will.

And it's not worth people sharing it. Last September when songs from Animal Collective's album leaked the reviewer who leaked them was almost fired because the review copies are watermarked and can be traced back to the specific reviewer. If I had a review copy I'd love to share it but wouldn't because it's not worth losing a job over or getting in trouble for.

And yet, as soon as it does leak I'll be all over it :D

Hardly seems worth getting into that kind of trouble.

TrueFaith77 08-22-2008 12:43 PM

Well, he should have been fired.

Tango 08-22-2008 12:57 PM

I'd hate to see anyone rob Lindsey of his "moment" to release it any way HE wants, whether it be through his website, his myspace, his radio interviews, maybe even television. He earned the right! I hope no one will steal this from him, and certainly not here.

What's the difference? BLY didnt pay for his copy now did he? Hmmmm? HMMM? (stroking my chin hair in a Pai Mei fashion)

How do we know? Of all the Village Recorder stuff Lindsey has only used TTFTS and DOR. The rest were not much more than sketches of songs and we have no reason to think that he hasn't forgot about them completely. Deep Dense was pretty complete but who's to say he is considering using any of those songs? After all, he's written plenty of new songs since then and the only old songs he seems to be using are the ones he already had properly recorded. I predict that none of the other Village Recorder songs will see the light of day :(

Speaking of...can I pre-order the vinyl version, and where exactly do we find that? I have a really great turntable and I think I've used it once.

Bestbuy.com has it!

Peestie 08-22-2008 02:01 PM

You can get it from amazon.com or a whole bunch of other sites. I was just looking for the best deal I could find (not done looking yet) but if you google "Gift of Screws vinyl" and go to any site that is an online store then you should find a bunch of places to get it. If I find any really good deals on it then I'll let you know. The best price so far is $20 and, as far as I'm concerned, that's a frickin steal! £10 (plus postage) for a high quality vinyl and a CD copy? Yoink!

I bet BLY never had his pic taken with Lindsey. And he probably doesn't own a Turner! SEE, you're still special. (and impatient!)

Well, I've not decided yet... Buck isn't coming anywhere near Florida...so we'd have to book flights, hotel, etc...and I am just not in the mood to do that...what with all our spending going towards immigration.

haha....don't EVEN GET ME STARTED about the Turner guitar. Those bums still haven't seen me my guitar. *very angry with face turning red* No joke.

BLY 08-22-2008 03:24 PM

I do own a turntable and no I haven't had my pic taken with Lindsey but I did with Mick in '96 and met Miss Nicks in '94.

BLY 08-22-2008 03:26 PM

Sorry.. you right I don't own a Turner.

A non-demo studio version of My Little Demon
Given Thing
Steve's Riff
Blue Turns to Grey (Stones cover, I think)

I guess that's not as many as I remembered. The other songs were real rough demos of TTFTS, SGCYM, DOR, She Smiled Sweetly and Deep Dense.

Well they said the guitar was "96%" complete. They said they'd have it ready to send within a week. That was 3 weeks ago now. They've said something pretty similar to that 4 or 5 times before in the preceding months. It all boils down to the fact that I paid them 4 Gs over a year a go. A YEAR. I could've had a custom house built in that amount of time. And you guys laugh about me being IMPATIENT...but I've been more than patient with Mr. Turner. This whole situation is just silly. The hard part is that Turner is a really nice guy...they just suck as businessmen.

Do you phone them or email them? do you get replies? are you any further on with getting the guitar.
Have you been given a reaason for the delay?

I get bull***** responses that have nothing to do with me.

From experience, with them you just have to set aside your natural tendency to be patient...be a "squeaky wheel"...the louder the better. BUT, harness any "angry" vibe, just be "matter of fact" and don't take their stock answers for an answer.

Seriously. I don't know what else to do, outside of legal action. Which I am not about to fork over money for a lawyer. But *****...I'm at the end of my rope with them. It's pretty damn annoying. They say one thing and do the complete and total opposite.

Well, here for that amount of money you could take them to small claims court and you wouldn't need an attorney. It's also an expedited process, which means it wouldn't drag on forever.

Um, so file an action in small claims when you come here to see Lindsey in concert!

You wouldn't have to be in California to file it, but you'd have to be here for the hearing.

I rang again about my Vintage Gold Top Model 1. I have been waiting almost 18 months on a repair job. I have paid in full and I have also pain in full for a Brand New Model 1 Exactly like Lindseys and I have had no updates on that either.
I fully trust Rick and Barry and they are the most decent gentlmen around. however I am a little concerned that things are taking so long.
I recieve very few email updates from them and they very rarely answer the phone.
I have a lot of money tied up in those two guitars and I just as concerned as you Brandon. I guess all we can do is wait. We'll get them eventually. sit tight.

billwebster 01-10-2009 08:41 AM

I got the GOS album for Xmas and it really blew me away how good it is. "Love Runs Deeper", "Right Place To Fade", "Did You Miss Me", "Underground", "Wait For You", "Treason" - just priceless. I love his electric guitar attack and wild soloing. That just drives the groove forward so much.

And "Time Precious Time" with its acoustic guitars sounding almost like a harp makes me think that for a change, he could try his hands at an all-instrumental album next time around that's more in a new age vein, you know, meditative music with layers of guitar picking emulating the harp sound and whatnot else, maybe with some fine hand-played percussions. It could even include some oriental flavors, bellydance rhythms maybe. Well, I guess I'm just dreaming ...
