Mirage Tour: Set-List Question
According to the "History" section here at fleetwoodmac.net:
The highlights were released on videocassette in 1984 as Fleetwood Mac In Concert: Mirage Tour 1982. It's a straight performance piece, with thirteen (of the twenty-two tracks typically performed) full-length songs, in contrast to the previous official video release. What were the other 9 tracks typically performed? |
They did Hold Me on that tour but it was never put to film so there is one of the nine.
Second Hand News was also in the set list |
Second Hand News

At one show, Fleetwood Mac played LEATHER & LACE. That's the only exception. (When Fleetwood rehearsed for the 1982 tour, they also played WISH YOU WERE HERE, STRAIGHT BACK, & TROUBLE.) |

I had no idea they rehearsed trouble I would definitley like to hear that.

But don't let anyone fool you into thinking that the Mirage video was filmed at only one show...it's a editor's nightmare of combining footage & audio from two shows from consecutive nights.
(was in audience for both) One night was all "lovey-dovey" ness between band members...one night they looked as if they wanted each other dead. So, remember that when you watch the video again...right in the middle of songs ("Blue Letter" is the most obviously one), they'll go from "isn't this fun?" to "I'm going to kill you once we're off stage"...two different performances spliced together. |

Surely they filmed MORE of the songs than what appears on the VHS/LaserDisc...right? |

The 1982 Setlist...I think!
I think it went something like this in most shows....my order may be screwed up somewhere but it's pretty close.

of this, one on VHS the other on Laser Disc. The more expensive Laser Disc version looked and sounded better (different mix?), but had less songs than the VHS version! :distress: |

Therefore, the entire 2 nights of these LA Mirage shows exist in some vault somewhere, as well as the 2 nights of St Louis 1979 Tusk shows...and so on... |

And, somewhere in some vault is the entire UC Santa Barbara show from May 1976...of which only "I'm So Afraid" & "Over My Head" (and bits of "World Turning") are seen in the Rosebud promo video. I'd love to see THAT entire show released someday. They did a KILLER version of Danny's "Sunny Side Of Heaven" to open their set---and, to add to the "vibe", just coincidentally, a 737 was taking off from Santa Barbara airport and was over head in the near background (with the Santa Barbara Mountains in the far background) of a blue sky just as the song started. The timing of the jet's takeoff couldn't have been more coordinated with the song if they'd actually planned it. |

Ive always thought this tour was the mac at its performing finest. Its so disappointing that the entire show has never been released in stellar quality. no doubt it would sell, especially if people knew the quality of the performances. especially with a tour in 2009, and a new album coming out, it might be good to do what Lindsey did with Live at Bass Performance Hall and release this show with better edits, in full length. Get the non-ledgies pumped!
I guess I can dream right??? |
Ahhhhh...the cutting room floor stuff.....I wish we could get to see some of that stuff. Can you see the drool running down my chin just thinking about it?!

Yes, Lindsey's guitar tone was more generic & unpleasant during the Mirage tour...almost as if he was using some sort of solid state distortion device (giving his tone a real "buzzy" sound) rather than the warmer overdriven tones of a good British tube (valve) amp, that he'd been using on earlier tours. I'd agree with David that those final days of the Tusk tour were probably some of the "higher" points of the bands' performances. Although, I don't think they ever sounded better (read: tighter & more dynamic) than they did during the mid-summer of 1977. |

Someone mentioned the Detroit show....wow I'd have loved to seen that...other than having the sound board recording....that would've been like awesome to have had it on video......:thumbsup: |

But it's the same with many other artist, Elvis Presley for example. His last two movies were concert documentaries, "That's The Way It Is (1970)" and "Elvis On Tour (1972)". There is more on the "cutting room floor" from these movies than has been released to date. The Elvis boards on the net are full of complaints about this footage not being released. BTW, I think my laserdisc version of Mirage had "Rhiannon" edited out... what tha..!?!?!? |

I would kill one of you -- I really do mean kill one of you -- for that wonderful Wild Heart concert at the height of Stevie's Turandot phase. http://www.claudiawaite.com/gallery_...randot-400.jpg |

Well, ok, but how many have to die? All 5? Or if one or two of them drop dead will that be enough to get WB to start opening up the vaults?

We fans got five or six soundboard recordings of songs on Stevie's Australian leg of the 1986 tour -- I Need to Know, I Can't Wait, Talk to Me, Outside the Rain, Dreams. They were on one or two of those reels in storage. Same goes for limited leaks from Fleetwood Mac concerts: GO YOUR OWN WAY, SISTERS OF THE MOON & SONGBIRD from Atlanta 1980; HOLD ME from Baton Rouge 1982; HOLD ME & SARA from MEADOWLANDS 1982. But we want the rest. Wouldn't it stand to reason that the rest would be somewhere in the vicinity of the leaked recordings? Are The Vaults literal vaults or merely figurative vaults? |

The thing thats really great about the Mirage Video, is what they chose to include. Imagine if they decided to put Dreams on the video instead of SOTM :EEK! We have a lot of songs preserved on tape that have yet to be played again on future tours. Sisters, Not That Funny, Blue Letter, a very different Eyes of the World then what we'd have captured on tape again in 2003. Most of what's left out we have preserved in other places (SHN, Dreams, Landslide Never Going Back Again)
So while all 22 or at least more then 13 would be ideal, what was included was probably the best selections for us fans they could've made. Again I must restate, What if Dreams Landslide or even Sara were included in place of Sisters of the Moon. |

I've only heard a very scrappy rehearsal of Straight Back. Can you share those other songs? I had no idea they considered those others. I always thought Wish You Were Here should have been the closer for that tour... they could have done a nice long jamming closer. And the never took advantage of featuring a few more solo songs other than Go Insane and Stand Back...and Has Anyone Ever Written (post Lindsey). I think that was a poor choice...not so Fleetwood Mac-ish. But Trouble is very Mac-ish, as are the songs on the Christine McVie album. |
