http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/2...inghzv3.th.jpg http://www.newburycomics.com/rel/v2_...103&deptnr=545 About Lindsey Buckingham: For more then three decades, Lindsey Buckingham has had a reputation among millions of fans and countless fellow musicians as an honored and singular... "Troublemaker?" he offers, with a mischievous laugh. Well, it was going to be creative force and innovator, a mad scientist experimenter mixing passion and craft into a distinctive and affecting artistry. But troublemaker will do. "The world needs more troublemakers," Buckingham says. Troublemaker, mad scientist, whatever you see him as, Lindsey Buckingham is behind some of the most beloved and creative twists in modern popular music. And with Gift of Screws he has made the kind of trouble only he can, more than ever before bringing together the broad appeal he shown as the main force behind the sound of Fleetwood Mac since he joined the group in 1973 with the restless spirit of experimentalism he's shown both with such Mac landmarks as Rumours, Tusk and in his own visionary solo albums. Gift of Screws is, in fact, a bracing and immediate result of 35 years of exploration and growth, made by an artist who has against the odds found new confidence and new abilities to express himself in ways at once challenging and accessible. Rarely have the full array of his talents and all aspects of his scope and sensibilities been integrated so thoroughly and winningly as on this album. In some ways it's a rocking complement to his last album, 2006's acoustic-focused Under the Skin, balancing such layered guitars-and-voice contemplations as "Time Precious Time" and "Bel Air Rain" with the seductive rush of the title song and the opener "Great Day." In some ways it's an extension of the renewal with his Fleetwood Mac legacy - Mick Fleetwood and John McVie provide the unmistakable foundation on several songs, including the embracing "Wait for You" and the gloriously mad title song. And linking the two are insightful examinations of love and belonging in "Love Runs Deeper" and the secure-yet-shadowed closing pair "Underground" and "Treason." Showcased throughout are Buckingham's noted virtuosity as a guitarist and producer, as well as his expressiveness as both a singer and writer. "You could certainly say this album is a distillation of a number periods of time, some false starts to make albums, certainly some songs that go back a number of years, that took a while to find a home here, combined with brand-new songs and a whole other outlook," he says. "And the fact that there was a kind of tenacity and focus to want to bring all of this together in one place. The fact that as an artist I'm still, for better or worse, clinging to my idealism and to my sense that there is still yet much to be said. This is a culmination of that." *Offer valid only with purchase of Gift Of Screws. This special offer is valid for DOMESTIC orders only. Thanks Macman ... I bought one and like PT Barnum said, "There's a sucker born every minute." (or something like that) so put me in the sucker category. I wonder if it really is autographed. The photo looks like he just got done with his shift on the *chain gang*. (If you go to the website, it's a large photo.) |

This can't be the image they want to use to get this album out. Where's this guy: http://www.buckinghamnicks.net/lb/im...uckMirage3.jpg He's got to try a little bit! |

Doesn't he resemble Paul Newman in COOL HAND LUKE ? (Only Lindsey lost his necklace.) "What we have here is a failure to communicate." |

He looks like he's on death row. Geeze. Posture and some appropriate clothing. The man can afford a suit. He looks like an old drunk. |
Thanks for posting this, Mac Man! I like the pic...it looks a little like a painting to me. Also, the blurriness is the theme for this album, isn't it? LOL
As for the pose..."I never change....I never will." ;) In both of those pics...his sleeves are rolled up to the elbow. Heh. |

Cool Hand Luke looked happy. Arrogant. THIS Lindsey pic looks defeated. Washed up. Done.

If he was going for the Cool Hand Luke look, he should have used this:
(Gift of Screws) http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x...-Luke-np01.jpg (I tried to superimpose Lindsey's head on Luke's body, but it just wasn't giving the right effect...) |
whatevs....I thank the heavens lindsey isn't a 'poser'

I've fallen on hard times. Please buy my album and help out.

I think the album cover shot and this one are designed -- even the way the camera is angled and focused -- is designed to make him look -- not good. They went out of their way to create a certain effect. I could take an unposed picture of Lindsey with a cheap polaroid camera and no special lighting and his eyes would be alive -- they wouldn't be dull and rheumy. I think they were aiming for that look deliberately. That's why I feel it is fake, just a different kind of fake than the "glamour" shots try to attain. Michele |
Crap, that's an ugly picture.
I mean, the guy is good looking (for any age) but really does look intentionally horrid in that picture. And, of course he's posing. He's got this whole theme going with this album. This...oh, this is just me hanging out and being a tortured artist, aren't I just too real by showing you this side...look. I don't like it at all. And I have liked all kinds of pictures he's taken (from dark and stormy to sarcastically smiling). But this is rather pretentious, IMO, and I'm not finding it real at all. To me, these promo pictures should reflect who you are at a certain time in your life--as a person, and as an artist. By all accounts, he's more productive than ever, and happier than ever (per him). So, I'm not loving the Keith Richards Wannabe photos. No, let me take it back. As scary as Keith's pictures can be, he generally smiles in his. Disclaimer: This is just my personal opinion. Please don't get your knickers in a knot. I'll be drooling over the real deal this fall along with the rest of you (well, provided he doesn't look like THAT on stage:laugh:) |

On another note, I was worried about the one eye of Lindsey's in the colored photos. It isn't opened all the way or is *droopy*. He looks tired & stressed. It made me think aobut his health and his mild form of epilepsy...which probably have NOTHING to do with the photo. Count me in too, for it's just my opinion. We all know I'm old and ignorant. (No reason hate me or want revenge...) |

Buy my stuff, darn it! :wavey: ??????? |
On the bright side: at least he's wearing a new shirt!
It's got buttons and everything. I hope he wears that one to the parole hearing. Michele |
I ordered it. \o/ I hope it isn't pre-autographed or whatever fancy thing they do.

I like the picture and that shirt is beautiful with his eyes. The pic is Lindsey, he may not be smiling, but it is him per se and his clothing choice is fabulous...with his hair going more grey and styled prickly, it works IMO. |

Thank you. My God, people age. I understand everyone's point of view, however it's absurd to think LB or any of the Mac are going to be as "all that" as they were in the '70s. It sucks but they've aged. I'm glad they are still here regardless....considering the lifestyle, they've aged well, I think. Take Mick for instance, he looks a hell of a lot better now than he did then. On the droopy eye subject, I wonder if it is a side affect of the dilantin. My dad was on that for a long time and I notice LB has the same mouth "tics" if you will... |
Photographer's Lighting or Clairol ---- ?
Only his hairdresser knows for sure. (Call off the attack dogs. It's only a joke.) An astute European called my attention to this. http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x.../haircolor.jpg On a personal note-- Yes, my eyes do droop and I am near 60...so the curse has already begun. I also have a wide ass and I am ugly...I freely admit it. I ain't nothing to look at it. He is a much better looking person at his age, than I ever will be. BTW -- Wasn't there a Lindsey, Lindsey, Lindsey thread or Hotness of Lindsey or something? Maybe it can be resurrected and we will shut up. |

This time around, for whatever reason, he wanted to look woebegone. He doesn't look like that every day. He didn't look like that on the webcam shots Betsy gave us. That photo is an affected look. It's an image. I think it's fine for him to do that, because he's quirky and he always does things that make little sense to his bandmates or to the average Joe. So, I think it's in keeping with his personality to do something strange like that. I also think it's ripe for mocking. It reminds me of something. When people take "before" and "after" photos, one of the tricks they use is to do many things to make them look awful "before" so that everyone will be amazed by the "after" image. So, if it's a weight product, they don't just show a person who is overweight, they show the "before" person in ugly clothes, a limp hair style, with a dour facial expression and poor posture. They really make them look bad for the "before" posed, so that the product will seem to have worked miracles when "after" is revealed. The person looks great in the "after" photo for reasons that actually have nothing to do with the weight they lost. Well, those 2 particular photos of Lindsey look like his "before" poses. I just don't know what he's advertising. The camera isn't even looking at him head on. He's shot from an angle that makes his forehead and eyes look quite different than they normally do. Michele |

I really like this picture. I haven't liked all his pictures, and I've also loved many, but this one is pretty cool. I think this shade of blue is a very attractive color for him. I say this as I spot some new candid shots of Bruce Springsteen, who is just 10 days older than LB. They both look incredible for their age, droopy eyes aside. They both could be my father and I say this without shame.
BUT, it looks to me like Linds is messin' about with the hair dye.Very cute. It looks good with the tips, but forgoodnesssakes he better not pull a Macca in the future. I might be horrified... http://i.realone.com/assets/rn/img/8...681-slarge.jpg |
Looks Bad, But Appropriate
It's been a while since I wrote here, but I had to get in on this.
The Emily Dickinson poem from which the phrase "gift of screws" comes suggests the product of art is the result of hard work. If an artist were hard at work, would he or she not be exhausted and look pretty frazzled? The photos for this album support this--he looks like he's been hard at work! John Young |

I agree with Michele.
It has nothing to do with aging. I didn't see the lines or any drooping and--frankly--don't give a rat's fanny over them. He's nearing 60, he's supposed to have lines. I like that he looks like a REAL guy, as opposed to the plastic Hollywood ones. But, he's hawking an album. Yeah, I get that he's a tortured, serious artist. But, we get all that in his songs. And all his songs, nowadays, are not even like that. Occasionally, he drops hints that he is (gasp!) happy! So, why sell an album using a picture that looks like he escaped from Riker's Island? So, yeah. Put out a picture like that, and we have free license, IMO, to pick it apart, on the basis of what's presented in the picture. I don't necessarily think we need to berate his gray hair or whatnot. That is what it is. But the dour expression is a choice. |
